2K Marin's XCOM Shooter Still Coming. Scheduled For Fiscal Year 2014

Despite having seen hide nor hair of it since E3 2011, Take-Two insists that its 2K Marin studio "still continues to make progress" on its tactical squad-based shooter, XCOM, with a release window currently pencilled in for 'fiscal year 2014'.

That places the launch of XCOM anywhere between April 1st, 2013 and March 31st, 2014 in a conventional fiscal year, but some company's fiscal years can vary. It's entirely possible that XCOM could launch sometime this year, although given its troubled development, it's nigh-on impossible to say when without an official confirmation.

So, all we really have is rumours, the most recent of which surfaced in October, suggesting that the game might arrive as a downloadable, squad-based third-person shooter, rather than the strategy-flavoured full retail FPS title it originally started out as.

A similar story last year also noted that XCOM had been delayed into fiscal year 2014, so while this is essentially a reiteration of that same news, it does mean that the game is still on the cards, despite it being deathly quiet. Anyway, until XCOM launches, you've always got the sublime XCOM: Enemy Unknown to tide you over. There's more DLC packs planned for that too, according to Take-Two. Huzzah!

After how much I loved Enemy Unknown, I may just have to pick this up just to experience more of the XCOM universe.

Frankly, any X-Com withdrawal I was feeling has been fully sated by Enemy Unknown, and given the long delays and extensive re-working this title has seen, I'm having a hard time building any excitement. I'd rather they trashed it and invested in some DLC to give some more depth to the late game in Enemy Unknown (or, possibly, offer the option to play old-school with time units and base defense missions).

Nobody cares, we got the Xcom game we wanted. This will only ruin the franchises title.

I don't wanna play Enemy Unknown cuz I'm not real into RTS TDG, but i can't wait for this one. I loved LA Noire's world so I know I'll love this one!

@#2 completely diff studio/developer doing each game.. so that won't happen..

If I remember correctly, this game had screens and info out before Enemy Unknown, and possibly started before it too, but that game was the real xcom xperience, so this team had to rethink their whole gameplan... it kinda stopped them in their tracks i think..
