![]() | 2K Marin's XCOM Shooter Still Coming. Scheduled For Fiscal Year 2014 Written Wednesday, February 06, 2013 By Richard Walker View author's profile |
Despite having seen hide nor hair of it since E3 2011, Take-Two insists that its 2K Marin studio "still continues to make progress" on its tactical squad-based shooter, XCOM, with a release window currently pencilled in for 'fiscal year 2014'. That places the launch of XCOM anywhere between April 1st, 2013 and March 31st, 2014 in a conventional fiscal year, but some company's fiscal years can vary. It's entirely possible that XCOM could launch sometime this year, although given its troubled development, it's nigh-on impossible to say when without an official confirmation. So, all we really have is rumours, the most recent of which surfaced in October, suggesting that the game might arrive as a downloadable, squad-based third-person shooter, rather than the strategy-flavoured full retail FPS title it originally started out as. A similar story last year also noted that XCOM had been delayed into fiscal year 2014, so while this is essentially a reiteration of that same news, it does mean that the game is still on the cards, despite it being deathly quiet. Anyway, until XCOM launches, you've always got the sublime XCOM: Enemy Unknown to tide you over. There's more DLC packs planned for that too, according to Take-Two. Huzzah! ![]() | |
