This is stupid anyway, you shouldn't need two subscriptions to access it. Paying for gold or netflix should suffice. |

Microsoft really needs to step their game up with these subscription costs. Netflix is available for PS3 without the need for their subscription. Not sure about the Wii but I'm pretty sure they have it as well. Other than being able to access online multiplayer, nowadays there seems to be less and less incentive to keep gold membership going(especially if you're like me and stick mainly to single player games). |

| I'm one of the people who only watch the superbowl for the commercials, since some of them are pretty good. I'm pretty sure I can just watch them all elsewhere on hulu or whatever later, so I don't really need to waste my time with all the boring superbowl in between the commercials. |

| Lol this is ridiculous. I'm renewing my live when gears comes out but I haven't been on lately and this is the reason why I haven't. No need to renew just to have access to something I pay for already. I can already do this on my computer or ps3 for free. |

| @9 I am all with you on that idea. I don't think that was Microsoft though, I think that was Netflix's idea of "In with the old out with the new." Even though that was the one reason I actually had Netflix on my 360 instead of just streaming/downloading everything in better quality to my computer. |

this has nothing to do with them seeing a loss in Netflix usage and increase on the PS3 and Wii and other devices that allow you to simply stream without any fees, Microsoft just decided to stop making money out of the kindness of their hearts. either that, or they know their new console is coming out and they've already made enough overhead profit and they know as soon as the next console comes out, they'll shut everything off for the 360, much like an EA Sports game to entice you to buy the newer version |

| @17 that's really your mistake. My household cut the cable two years ago. Cable is a ripoff, I'm finding a digital antenna for local stuff, and netflix/hulu completely sufficient. I'm probably saving $1000/year now. I'm also considering a Roku or something similar. There's absolutely no reason to have cable anymore with all of the better options out there at a fraction of the price. The only thing that would make me even consider getting cable again is if they allowed us to specifically choose the channels I want and none others, a-la-cart style. |

| @21 - ESPN. I'm glad nobody in your house likes college sports (or Monday Night Football). Give me a subscription based ESPN client (All channels not just ESPN3 when it's not blacked out) on my 360 or via the internet, and I'd drop cable too, but not a moment sooner. |

| As 1 and 2 said I must agree. Plus if I'm paying 60$ a year to access online services yet can't use them and have to pay more money then being gold is rather pointless unless you play online games and want the DLC. |

@ 21 you are so right brother... With XBL Gold and a sub to both Netflix and Hulu+ I'm saving $970 a year after canceling my Dish Network contract. Just like you, I pick up local OTA broadcasting with an indoor HDTV anntenna now and I use Hulu+ and Netflix for my TV programs and movies in conjunction with renting blurays of course. The thing I have a problem with is the fact MS doesn't give access to these services for silver members when they are free everywhere else. I also have never agreed with having any adds on a premium paid for internet service like XBL. In the end you are right, I think more people should cancel their cable/Sat Subs, it would save them close to $1K a year! |

It was absurd they made people need a Gold account to access Netflix anyway. No additional fee to use it on the PS3, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, or anything else. Just the 360. Hell, it's bullshit they make you pay $60 a year just to play your games online at all but that's anotehr can of worms. |

@21: I can't remember which tech company it was (Intel or someone like that), but they're getting licenses and contracts with cable providers to start something like that. Which, in my opinion, I'm amazed someone hasn't before. And, I do the same thing. Netflix/Hulu+ and an HDTV antenna. More than enough and much cheaper. We actually have a cable package in our bedroom, but that's only because the cable company MAY have neglected to come out and disconnect it... =3 |

| The Wii and PS3 both let you watch Netflix on their device for free if you have a Netflix Account. Only thing that holds the Wii back is non-HD streaming and originally the needed Netflix Disc which got solved as a free system App a couple months after it was introduced. I really don't understand why you need Gold to watch Netflix on your 360, they are no longer the only system with Netflix Streaming. Also I think a streaming device that gives you all of what Xbox Live Gold gives you is about the same price as XBL for a year. |

When I read the title of the article I thought that starting this weekend Netflix was going to be available for Silver members offically; I though Microsoft come to their senses. But when I found out it was only for the weekend, so it would entice more people to buy Gold I realized that Microsoft is the same monster it's always been. All of xbox's apps should be available to non-Gold members. On any other gaming device, apps like the ones xbox has are free to access. Then again other gaming devices also let you play online multiplayer without paying extra too. I guess Xbox just wants everyone to buy their Gold subscription. |

What a joke. I keep telling him to get a roku but he is cheap...doesnt care if after two years the roku would pay for itself instead of giving microsoft money. |
