Hardcore seems tougher than before...and classic ftw. I was considering skipping over DS3 due to money constraints, but looks like I just might pick it up over the coming months.
Anybody used classic aiming in their DS2 playthroughs? I find it better than center aiming.

Wow, that's a bit mad. What are we meant to be thankful for again? I mean I like a good challenge but Hardcore seems a little too much this time around. In a game like this where death can come from anywhere at any moment, one solitary life for an entire (I assume) 8-10 hour campaign is asking a lot, especially if it has to be done all in one sitting. There's gotta be something they're not telling us.

And so the sissy's way out of the hardest mode in the game is already being brainstormed. Before the game is even out... I seriously hope there is NO workaround for this mode whatsoever. Achievements like this are only meant for the players skiled enough to unlock them legitimately.
But hey, I'm sure I have nothing to worry about. DS2 hard core mode only allowed, what? One save? So I'm pretty damn sure they wouldn't go from that, to unlimited saves. You'll all just have to keep dreaming, or get good enough to unlock it the way they intended.
@2 I completely agree. Not at all sold on this new system they have in place. Just seems too gimmicky. Give me the classic play style all day long.
One more week. Can't wait to start slaughtering more necros.

First, I thought "great, now I'm convinced to buy DS3, with Classic mode", since I don't like the crafting stuff. It's a bit too cramped and complicated. It could have been easier.
But since you can only play in Classic mode once you finished the game 'as is', I jumped off DS3's hook again and swim freely.
Classic mode is where it's at, I don't want to craft when I'm only going to use the Plasma Cutter and nothing else - since the first again, through the second game. The third will (read: SHOULD) be just the same.

You'll most likely start off with the Plasma Cutter, as the other games did, so I'm not sure what your point is.

What's 'classic' aiming? I've played and completed both the previous games, and the demo for DS3, can't say I noticed much difference in the aiming. I was comfortably de-limbing as soon as I started playing the demo, didn't feel any different to the older games to me. Did I miss something?

@12 "You'll most likely start off with the Plasma Cutter, as the other games did, so I'm not sure what your point is."
Yes, you are right: I can play the game without any problems and it's just fine for me. The ting is:
This yadda-yadda about the crafting system is pointless for me, personally. It's an addition which seems right in a story-wise way (Isaac being an engineer, that makes sense), but is not groundbreaking or necessary at all. The first two games could easily go along without that, so why need it now? I can upgrade my weapon to make it do more damage and micromanage certain skills, that's all.
I honestly do not want to micromanage that stuff. I like to choose my path, like in previous titles: If you go that way, then you can upgrade this or either this or both, but and some point, you'll reach 'the end'.
Upgrading like this kind of reminds me of Skyrim, where you try to craft the best possible armor and get the Uberweapon, no doubt.
I just want the average weapon with some upgrades which makes it slightly stronger, but not imbalanced.
I'm sure they will keep the balance tight, alright, but I still think it's a little bit too much to play around with and since I don't want another third person shooter, I won't use any projectile weapons, anyway - that was the main reason I started playing Dead Space, at least.
So all the projectile weaponsm, flamethrowers and so on fall flat for me, leaves me alone with Plasma weaponry. The achievements for all those kinds of weapons (explosions, acid, razor blade, and so on) will be a drag and I don't remember if DS 1 and 2 had those, but I'm sure it was a drag when I attended them, back then.
In the end: You're right, it shouldn't bother me. But this whole new crafting system makes the game more shooter oriented (kind of like Resident Evil 5 did with it's weaponry-system) and doesn't feel like a survival-adventure anymore.

I agree, Hardcore has to be missing some details. Unless they are meaning 1 playthrough. But look at how easy Medal of Honor: Warfighter is with 1 life. So there probably will be a way to bounce it off your cloud to make it seem like you never died.
Kinda hope you can do it in Co-op though.

His post from NeoGAF forum:"Sadly this will be possible... if we had prevented it we would have had to require a network connection, not a good idea for a mode we intend for people to be able to play in single player...".

That way when time moves on and you can no longer play with a co-op online friend for what ever reason, you can still enjoy the unique dialog and cut scenes from the 2 player game. |

Wonder if I can save backups somewhere else if it allows saving...
If it DOESN'T allow saving...

This news has made me much more excited for the game. I remember playing the demo and building this crazy weapon which had this strange laser melee, the weapon crafting is what to me, makes this game a whole lot more than other FPS Shooters out there.

#23: Fair enough, very well explained though!
I'll most likely be using the closest thing to the DS2 Pulse Rifle for most of my playthrough so I see where you're coming from.
We know what works and can't be arsed with trying out 'n' amount of possible combinations this game will have.
#32: It's not one sitting as far as I've read.
The game auto saves at every save/loading point in Hardcore so you can turn it off and do something else, but when you die it's going to autosave that death and send your ass right back to chapter 1.
It's not like Max Payne 3 where you had to do the whole campaign in one sitting.
The USB workaround has been confirmed for those who don't want to do it legit.
Agreeing with #10 when you can see easily manipulated loopholes like that.
Achievement were originally the confirmation that separated the ones who could from the bullshit artist when you could finally, actually see if someone had completed a game on the hardest difficulty or 100%'d.
With shortcuts like this Aren't You Thankful? won't mean nearly as much as Hard to The Core.
I'll try it legit anyway.

I don't mind extremely hard difficulties...
However, after mucking through "Impossible" mode on Dead Space 1 in which I suffered NUMEROUS bullshit deaths in which a Slasher or Lurker killed me in ONE HIT while I still had HALF of my health left...
I'm probably going to opt for the freakin' "alternate save somewhere else" for that mode.
Look, I play Rogue-like RPGs all the time. Make a mistake and lose and your char gets deleted. That doesn't bug me. Why? 'Cause the game is never UNFAIR in that regard. Oh, sometimes you'll get something ridiculously hard spawned near you... But it's often telegraphed or there were ample opportunities to prepare for it or to stat up beforehand.
Dead Space, on the other hand... Well, you die from bullshit a LOT on the harder difficulties that I've seen. I'm not going to enjoy a game deliberately out to fuck me every chance it gets without letting me "continue from last save".
Honestly, it's the equivlent of playing a multiplayer game. Let's take Halo or Gears of War... Perhaps even Call of Duty. Now imagine the multiplayer mode played like the new Hardcore Mode. You die once. It resets ALL of your stats. EVERYTHING. It also kicks you out to the lobby to start all over again. Can you imagine THAT being any kind of fun or a challenge? I can pretty much guarantee nobody but people using "alternate save files off of the hard drive" will ever get the achievement. If someone tells you they did it legit, that's bullshit.

From what ive heard hardcore mode has an autosave feature (not sure if entire game uses this feature) and once you die your game automatically saves. With only one life to spare, auto save after death will equal permadeath. Cant wait!!!! :D
