Good to see Trails Evo was nominated for best downloadable game. Although the recent DLC has made it near impossible to finish for some, still a great game and I would recommend it to anyone.

Some nice nominations there, glad to see Mark of the Ninja up there, loved it!
I'm expecting Walking Dead to wipe the floor with the categories it's in, except GoTY.. Dishonored will probably get it there.

I would have thought Borderlands 2 would have made the cut for Game of the Year over Xcom...

Dishonored for best narrative? It sure is a good game but I think the story is rather bland and not gripping at all.

Might not be the most popular choice but out of the game of the year contenders my choice would probably be Mass Effect 3, really enjoyed it. All the drama with the controversial ending will probably count against it though.

Am surprised borderlands 2 and far cry 3 aren't in the shortlist for game of the year. Both games have helped me waste so much of my life recently!

I'm still addicted to the Hotline Miami soundtrack. I hope it doesn't get overshadowed by those more popular games with (imho) very forgettable audio :/

My top 4 games of 2012 are The Walking Dead, Max Payne 3, Far Cry 3, and Syndicate. I finished Journey twice and honestly can't fathom what's so special about it. The Walking Dead, on the other hand, is possibly my favourite game of all time... Or at the very least right up there The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Perfect Dark.

@15 You have to be in the right mood to really appreciate Journey, but I personally prefer Flower. I think it might be that the context of walking emphasizes how slow the gameplay is, and makes me impatient. Some of the environments are seriously gorgeous though :P

@13 I agree with you but you are wrong for why it should be. Copies sold should not be relative to how well developed a game is CoD games come to mind with this fact.

I also played The Walking Dead and don't understand why its winning so many GoTY Awards and nominations I thought it was very bland. Same with Dishonored, I felt the story was just terrible, and the missions were predictable much like a fetch task in an mmo, boring and repetitive.

Regardless of the initial ending to ME3 I still thought it deserves GoTY if not a close second. ME3 also deserves best audio because that soundtrack was just beautiful, "I'm proud of you" makes me tear up every time.

@ 13

We had similar conversations when we were doing our Game of the Year awards. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition a brilliant game with some revolutionary ideas. In a different context it would win everything (if I had my way, anyway).

But the fact that it's, essentially, a port of a PC title goes against it. The PC version picked up a bunch of awards a while back and rightly so, as it's the original. So yeah, I get ya, but I would imagine that's their thinking.

Also, what @17 said.

I really don't understand the praise for Dishonored, it's such a boring chore to play, and really unpleasant to look at.

Walking Dead should definitely get GOTY seeing as Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3 miss the nominations. Mark Of The Ninja definitely deserves to win the categories it's nominated for as well.

Love how XCOM doesn't get nominated for anything but then steals a nom for Best Game right at the end. Good game, not the world beater it's 90/100 on Metacritic suggests, but a lot of fun.

Don't really see how Far Cry 3 missed the nomination for GOTY.

And Black Ops II (Treyarch/Activision) for Best Technology...wtf?

Audio definitely should go to Halo 4.

GOTY should go to Dishonored over Walking Dead, IMO.

I'm up to the 4th episode of walking dead and yes, its good but not anywhere near good enough for all these nominations. Frame rate drops, annoying dialogue bugs and sometimes completely stupid choices hold it back for me. Borderlands would have been my game of the year, it was literally perfect.

@7 hit the nail on the head. From the beginning I liked the game, but all the praise it gets makes me feel like if it didn't share the name with the show, people wouldn't be so die hard into it. The show is fantastic, and the game is riding the wave. Still a great game , but don't rob a more deserving title it's due because some other game has a wider audience attached to its brand name. It's no better than saying COD deserves GOTY because it sells well.

Far Cry 3 is my "FACT" Game of the Year 2012 so Dishonored, The Walking Dead and Mass Effect 3 is running up so I hope this choice award give Dishonored, The Walking Dead or Mass Effect 3 for Game of the Year 2012. :)

@23 "I really don't understand the praise for Dishonored, it's such a boring chore to play, and really unpleasant to look at.

I could actually say the opposite. How in the fucking fuck you praise a boring POINT AND CLICK game over a game like Dishonored is waaaaaaaaay beyond me.
