| Certainly good news for all those with gift cards. Hopefully someone will be able to buy them out. |

You can now use your gift cards on all the over charged items in store. Yay? Seriously though, having sold a bunch of these at Christmas I'm glad that those customers can now spend their money (if they haven't already). Although, I still don't see why people would continue to use HMV considering the inflated prices. |

Hopefully this will be the case in Ireland as well. I've got €40 worth of them, and it annoys me that someone bought them for me, and they're of no use. Its good to hear the UK branch is at least letting them be used. |

| GAME is wrong to save HMV because GAME got problem last year. Make no sense so other company could save HMV. God luck to HMV. :) |

| How does Game even think it can consider taking over stores when they themselves had to close stores last year? |

| It wasn't HMV's decision to refuse gift cards, it was the administrators. This confusion created a lot of hassle and grief for the thousands of people who work for HMV. Ignorant customers who take it out on the little people of the company. And no i don't work for them. |

| For all the ignorant people in the comments, Game was bought by OpCapita after they went into administration and haven't had any problems since. How would it be a risk for them? |

| As said by #8 this is what administrators do, it's standard procedure to assess the viabilities of the business. Gift cards are money held with banks and when a company goes into administration there needs to be negotiating before they bank will agree to release the money. (I worked for GAME). Also Game were looking to buy like 45 stores after a better than expected Christmas, re-establishing itself a store is not a bad idea, when it went into administration it had an excess of over 700 stores (over GAME and Gamestation). |

LMAO at all the people selling giftcards on Ebay. Knowing full well they were not being accepted. My Auntie ( who had no idea about the refusal to accept them ) bought £200 worth for £100. When she found out HMV were not taking them the seller basically laughed at her, and said there was no way he was refunding her. Guess she can go use it now. |

@7 they did yes but since getting out of that mess they are doing really really well so its not much of a risk @13 the situation with them is a bit weird, theyre doing it to try escape a parent company so its a different situation on topic it was obvious this would happen, it always does same as game last year they have to stop taking them when first in administration until they take stock of what money they have for what purpose |

| @9 - OpCapita also bought Comet, and said they'd make a huge turnaround. What happened? It ran straight in to the ground. |

Should be illegal to refuse it tbh. someone gave the retailer money in the understanding someone has a card of that value to spend in store. nothing short of theft. |

| Correct me if I'm wrong but a gift card is the same as cash, so how did they get away with not honoring them at all? |

I laugh at all the people that 'had a great idea' to go and snap their gift cards in the faces of staff, or attempt to steal goods with 'value' to their cards. Humanity is stupid. |

@19/20 its not the same as cash, nothing is the same as cash in the end what your essentially doing is becoming a creditor for that store albeit for a small amount, if a company then goes into administration it passes all credit onto the administrators. They then decide what to do with it, the first thing being freeze all credit. your money is then a debt the store has just like any other, they still do owe you that money but you are essentially the same as the people hat have lent them large amounts nothing more so the only thing that legally you can really do for it is claim from the administrators as a creditor the same as the credit companies do. It may seem wrong but thats the way things work, in the end there is no substitute for cold hard cash |

| Maybe HMV is crap, maybe HMV is overpriced but maybe their prices are what they are because they pay their tax bill where as some of their largest competitors (Amazon) don't. |

| @17 Comet was doomed before Opcapita bought it. They are making £50 million from closing down all the comet stores. |
