Codemasters Restructuring, 80 Jobs Rumoured to be Under Threat

Codemasters is restructuring in a move that may lead to redundancies.

"As the company realigns its operations to focus on areas of increased strategic importance and decrease resources in areas that are not delivering value for the business, the Company has proposed the restructure of certain aspects within its digital development and publishing units in line with future product strategy," said Codies in a statement.

"As a result of the proposed restructure, the company has therefore entered into a period of collective consultation with the affected employees."

According to the studio, boxed products like the F1, DiRT and GRID series will not be affected.

While Codemasters has not confirmed how many staff may lose their jobs, ex-Codies employee Bruce Everiss believes the number to be around 80. A large amount of people for a relatively small outfit.

Such a shame for anyone to loose their job. Hope this won't lead to administration

I thought Codies were making a lot of money, given F1, Grid and Dirt have been good to them in terms of sales.

However, given it says they won't be affected, I can't actually think of a non-driving games of theirs I own apart from the two Operation Flashpoint games on 360. I suppose they could have had a few other games that just sucked, but of the games of theirs I own, I really like them all.

Good luck to anyone who does get the chop, seems like the industry is getting a fair bit smaller at the moment.

The micro machines 2 4 player cartridge was the greatest invention of the 20th century. You can forget nuclear power, Personal computes the airplane and antibiotics.

A big problem with codies is their after release support. Ashes cricket 09 got no patches for its faults. International cricket 2010 online gameplay NEVER worked and they gave no patches or support at all. Even the f1 games have bugs, and they get maybe 1 patch if its bad enough. A once respectable company that's lost it's way in recent years.

Very sad again. Pain in asses in recent of years with so many companies and people losing their jobs in world. Good luck to those people losing jobs over Codemasters.

Can't believe heavy snowy today and more people losing job today. Good and bad news. :/

@3 He most definitely will not. They raised £25,000 of the required £350,000 to make a new Dizzy game on Kickstarter

Why outsource for an achievement list, if you have financial difficulties?

(Assuming you are getting paid for creating the achievement work.)

@8 really? That's kinda sad. I'd happily pay for re-releases on XBLA, they should outsource it or something.

Game development doesn't seem to be a good job field to get into these days...

@12 - They still have to pay someone to do it. If they can't even muster up 10% of the cost for a new game, it won't exactly be seen as worth it.

Bit of a fail in financial planning Codemasters. You build yourself a nice new studio and then a year later stuff like this comes out. Get your priorities right! Keep the older building AND the employees.

I can probably get them jobs if they would relocate to Seattle...
