| #2, That may have just been a crap member of staff - not indicative of the entire company now is it? The lady who runs the Blockbuster near where I live is incredibly helpful and friendly. Depends on your area/circumstances I guess. As long as the online stays open with it's 4 for £20 and 2 for £20 deals I'm not bothered much though. |

@2 Yeah Blockbuster are terrible and the staff are the most obnoxious and rude I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with so although it's sad to see people lose their jobs I won't shed a tear for these lot Their prices where just as bad as HMV anyway and to be honest I can say I don't know a single person who still uses them |

@3 - the internet. Though the prices will be better, you'll no longer be able to have a chat with a like-minded gamer in a store about the game you're purchasing. Face time with people is getting increasingly rare. It's a real shame about Blockbuster. I used to work there, and made some great friends. I still get my employee discount too. :P Whoever may buy them needs to re-brand them. The movie rental business is dead for high street retailers. They can't compete with online rentals and streams. |

It was only a matter of time, with the likes of Netflix and Lovefilm dominating the rental business these days. Not to mention that HMV and Blockbusters are way overpriced, you can get films, cd's and games soo much cheaper online. It's horrible to see so many companies that have been around for ages go down the shitter. Best bet in my opinion is to drop the retail stores and focus on keeping it a digital (online) focused business.:) |

We're in an age where people shop online instead of going into shops because its cheaper. I think high street retailers who offer Films, Games or Music now need to make the transgression to selling online only. Companies like HMV, Blockbuster or GAME have high prices due to the fact that they need to make money back on having couriers deliver goods to the stores (paying Lynx/DHL/UPS or whoever to deliver) and also paying back the advances they had on buying games wholesale from publishers. If they went with selling online only, they would save money just just cutting out delivery to shops and would only need to focus on postage via Royal Mail or another postal service. That's why the websites prices are cheaper than their shops. Media as a whole has become obsolete in shops now as people turn to the internet for cheap goods to your door, quick and convenient. Soon the high streets will be just supermarkets, clothes shops and pubs. Sad but true. Then again, I have only used Blockbuster a handful of times, ShopTo all the way for me. |

| Also what with Netflix and LoveFilm now making an impact by streaming to a console/computer or delivered to your door, renting a hard copy is obsolete too. |

| i see a big problem with shops shutting.although the online prices are cheaper now, when there are no shops to compete with, they can drive up the prices and theyll have the monopoly of the market so we will be forced to buy those over priced games.combine this with no shops to trade your old games into, and gaming might become VERY expensive. |

Its a shame, the world keeps turning but less names on the high street. Its not nice for those involved and I hope they can move on with their lives . I rarely buy from high streets as you can always find it cheaper elsewhere, normally online. Sign of the world today. |

| Well as a member of staff at Aberdeen Blockbuster I have a slightly bias opinion, the UK division of Blockbuster has been completely abandoned by the company who owns us Dish, when Dish bought Blockbuster they were given the UK stores for free. We are competitively priced within the high street, we have some things cheaper than game and some more expensive but that is what shopping around is all about. Quite a loss to gamers as well as we are one of the last places where you can rent games but if the staff seem unhappy and rude its because we have constant threat of being fired if we don't sell enough pre-orders etc. |
|

| It doesn't help that they have so many stores and the problem with that is rent is at an all time high whilst people want goods at the best possible prices. That's why internet sites profit because they don't have the overheads that high street companies have to deal with. |

| I'd rather have a physical copy of a game so I can either lend it out to freinds, borrow from a friend or trade my own stuff in. I have, Crysis 2, Child of Eden and Alan Wake intstalled to my hard drive as downloaded games from Ebay and in all honesty, I forget that they're saved on my hard drive as I only look at my games shelf to see what I have to play |

| Pretty soon we shall only be left with Tesco and Asda on the high street...then people will fall into two distinct groups Tescolians and Asdaites, there will be running battles in the streets, skirmishes in the canned goods, trench warfare in the veg aisles and trolley battles in the car park. We're doomed I tell ya. (ok got a little carried away there, oh and Molyneux you can sod off Supermarket skirmish is my idea) |

Offline marketing needs to be here, if it wasn't for games in store I would have never known about games in general, the internet is always secure, not everyone wants to wait for dvd's. I personally but most of my dvds from places like hmv but my games tend to be a mix of online/offline. Plus if more game stores when bust then It be harder to find real people who love games as much as me which is rather frustrating! Maybe it's time places like comet, etc... started out there online products to competite with online sales, they might be able to help out but personally I'm not sure since I don't have a degree in marketing but I do in games design but there 2 different things. Personally I'm not sure what else to about dvd's because removing hmv is forcing me to look at pre-owned dvd's because that's the only thing left available to me. |

Sad to see somewhere else go into administration, but it's expected, blockbuster's is always empty, where ever I've been, there's never really anyone in them. It will be replaced quickly with a service like red box, i used that whilst i was in america, much better service then blockbusters, and hell, that only had about 30 dvd's in it in a vending machine doodad. Blacobusters been in trouble for years now, so this isn't a surprise, it's only a surprise that it's lasted as long as it has. |

| This doesn't surprise me all that much, they closed all of our blockbusters a little while back. It sucks when people lose their jobs though. All we really have here for games is EBGames/Gamestops.. like 3 of them I think, and a couple walmarts. We do have a locally owned used media place which has good prices though. |

Although Blockbuster had terrible customer service and sold new games open and scratched i'm going to miss being able to rent. Paying £40 for a 6 hour game is something i'm not prepared to do. I think they'll be brought anyway, my local BB is always packed out so they must have a good customer base. |

| Blockbuster have been in the shit even longer than HMV. The days when they could put numerous copies of the latest releases on the shelf and put the indy rental shop down the road out of business are long gone. Postal rentals took a chunk of their business away and then streaming services ate away at even more. They tried joining in, but were up against established companies in those sectors. Not nice to find yourself in the position you left others in. |
