Could Double Fine Be Looking to Acquire THQ IP?

According to a tweet from Distressed Debt Investing, Tim Schafer's Double Fine could be looking to acquire one or some of THQ's intellectual properties, with the studio requesting bankruptcy filings ahead of the auction of THQ's assets.

"THQ: Both Warner Brothers and Double Fine productions have asked for bankruptcy filings in the THQ case", the tweet states in a rather matter-of-fact manner. Given the scale of Double Fine however, it's unlikely to be one of THQ's bigger franchises like Saints Row or Darksiders.

More likely is something like de Blob, THQ's colourful puzzling platformer. Double Fine has worked with THQ in the past, with the publisher releasing Costume Quest and Stacking on digital platforms. Now it's possible that Double Fine could be acquiring a THQ IP, as the publisher looks to sell off its assets to the highest bidder.

de Blob would be a great fit and they probably pick up the IP for a bargain.

We need saves Metro, de Blob, Red Faction, Saints Row, South Park, WWE, Darksiders and more THQ games. We all need those franchises stay alive without dying. We knew THQ already axe Red Faction after RF Armageddon but we need bring RF alive too. ;P

@4 - What was wrong with it? I've got 100% on both 360 and PS3 and didn't have any issues that I can remember.

One of the guys with DF now had worked on Alter Echo previously. It could be that, as minor as it is. DF already owns the IPs for Stacking and Costume Quest, so they can make sequels any time, but there may be some publishing rights with the originals that THQ held the keys to that would be sorted out if DF bought it up.

Also, Destroy All Humans fits DF style more than de Blob, IMO, if we're looking at THQ IPs.

This doesn't bother me as long Activision doesn't show up next to buy Saints Row rights.

Don't be naïve, Saints Row is a big money maker and by far the biggest franchise THQ owns (WWE is just a license and I assume it will revert back to WWE.) One of the big companies will get it (I'd assume EA or Activision)

I wouldn't mind this. Better than EA & Activision acquiring their rights

THQ needs to sell their rights at a decent price but also do their games a favor and put it in hands of people who won't turn it into trash *coughEAcough* coughActivisioncough*

I think you guys are really stretching it if you think Double Fine's looking to pick up Homefront, or Red Faction, or Saint's Row.

I'll bet they're looking to fetch their own IPs as some above posts suggested, but I'd like to see deBlob saved.
