Telltale Games is offering download codes for owners of 4 GB Xbox 360s, to bypass issues suffered by the disc-based release of The Walking Dead: Season One.

Apparently a bug has caused some users to experience stuttering and freezing issues, a problem found exclusively on Xboxes with no hard drive. The hitching reportedly makes the game almost unplayable.

So, for those without a hard drive and those who are (understandably) unwilling to buy one, Telltale has set up a system in which users can apply for a digital copy of the game instead. Here’s a link to the form.

"We value our customers and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused," say Telltale.

It’s worth noting, however, that combined every episode of the game amounts to 2.85 GB, a substantial chunk of the 4 GB memory found on affected consoles. Those with the issue may have to do some shuffling around.

There are further problems, however.

While attempting to load a new episode, some players have been thrown back to the very start of the game with none of their choices saved.

The problem has affected players of both the retail and digital versions of the game, though the disc-based version only plays up when online-enabled Xbox Live Silver or Gold account holders play offline.

It is therefore advised to play the disc-based version of the game online, where possible.

In the meantime, Telltale says it has found a fix for these issues and recently submitted patches to Microsoft for testing.
