inSANE: Guillermo del Toro in Talks with "Very, Very Big Company"

Having been shelved by THQ back in August of last year, it appears that Guillermo del Toro's horror project, inSANE really is back in the cards following rumours that the Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy and Blade II director had been shopping around for new publishers to back the game.

“We are in talks with a very, very big company. I can’t say who, but it’s one of the big ones. They really responded to the game, they responded to what we were trying,” del Toro revealed in an interview with the Toronto Sun.

“Some of the devices of the game I need to update, because now I’ve seen them in other games that just came out. That always happens. But the principle we’re trying to do with the game is to make it a really immersive narrative experience. It’s still a really challenging proposal.”

Billed as a 'Lovecraftian sandbox', inSANE is set to be an action-based horror title, and has become something of a passion project for del Toro. When it's scheduled to surface however, is anyone's guess. Details are incredibly thin on the ground beyond the thirty-second teaser revealed at the 2011 VGAs where the game was announced.

I'm leaning towards Ubisoft or possibly Square Enix. Again, please not EA or Activision.

It will be EA, who will churn out 2 sequels in 3 years and add coop and Kinect functionality.

Can't wait to see which third party publisher will have the honor of forcing unnecessary multiplayer into this one.

(seriously, I hope it all works out)

Who cares?
Pan's Labyrinth was cack.
For a so-called 'horror' expert none of his movies were scary.
The book he co-wrote (The Strain) was also toss.
It's clear to see he's put all his sketch book ideas into his movies already and is beginning to re-cycle ideas (Stick eyeballs on everything)

I don't know why I keep giving this guy chances, he clearly isn't my cup of tea.
..and this game doesn't even have ANYTHING to show for it yet so do STFU about 'unnecessary multiplayer' being tacked onto a non-existant franchise.

2K Games, Square Enix or Ubisoft to buy this game and own it. Those is better publisher then EA or Activision. Maybe Capcom or Konami could buy it because quite lots of horror franchises in their business so this new IP of horror game could join them. :)

I don't think it will be EA, that would be competition for their own horror game Dead Space, won't be Capcom, RE, Activision is a possibility unfortunately, as well is Square Enix. Here's hoping for 2K or Bethesda!

Even if it is EA or Activision at least someone is going to help to release his game. Hopefully they don't ruin his game though.

@3 I could be wrong but I'm sure I read that this will be a trilogy, so doesn't matter who publishes it, there will be a sequel.

OT: I read he's keen to work with valve and he's currently working with the voice actor for glados in his new film pacific rim, so my money is on them

@5 Everything you just said was a load of shit, you have possibly the worst taste in films if you think Pan's Labyrinth is bad.

2k or SEGA imo. Either that or it won't be a big publisher.

As much potential as this game has, I think that we need to stop hearing about it until there's actually something to show.

It was what, 2011 when it was first announced? Literally nothing new has come out since then. I don't like hearing about games so far from completion, as it just seems like a waste of time for everyone involved.

For a long time my money has been on Valve, considering that he recently get permission to use Ellen McLain's GLaDos Voice in his new film, Pacific Rim and claimed that Portal was one of his favourite games.

It all fits...

#18 Yeah not quite enough out there for new Survival Horror games but ZombiU is true Survival Horror for Wii U only by Ubisoft. Really scared throughout game. Anyway that is last Survival Horror and rare in recently years to hd this genre of games. :P

Xbox 360 and PS3 really need more Survival Horror.

EA and Activison are probably the biggest. Unless he potentially means one of Microsoft's subsidiaries. Only time will tell.

@18&19: The majority of "true" survival horror games nowadays come from indie developers. Check indiedb.com. It seems to be the "in" thing for studios atm.

I would imagine that EA would pick this up. I'd be disappointed with Activision as a publisher, but I think I'd be fine with EA. And to anyone saying "they'd just make quick sequels"... inSane was planned as a trilogy to begin with, so I can't imagine all three games being all that different to begin with.

Regardless, I'm just excited to see this find the light of day and eventually get a release.

This looks interesting and I'm sure with del torro at the helm it will be outstanding. I am however more excited at the prospect of a deadly premonition sequel. Wouldn't you agree, Zach?

@15 Its not Valve Valve is not a publisher theyre an in house developer I dont think they want anything to do with someone elses rejected game The 3 biggest publishers are EA Activision and Ubisoft... Im not sure Activision or Ubisoft would be interested in something like this but its possible my money is on EA as Dead Space is a big franchise for them and this game has been described by Del Toro himself as "like a horror version of Mass Effect"

@5 Pans labyrinth wasn't a horror movie it was portraying the horrors of war but was more of a twisted fairytale and I thought it was amazing...

Also devils backbone, Cronos, and orphanage were great horror films (horrors don't always have to be scary some have good plot lines and contain horror elements) I like both kinds....

As for the game I agree with you too much pulling at straws and guesses without seeing anything of the game, interested to see how it shapes but after the Hellboy game del Toro was involved in lets hope he's learned lessons..

Big del toro fan here and I just wanted to say that del toro is a gamer and as such I really doubt it'd partner with Activation unless they were the only interested party. Del toro tends to do things the way he wants them or not at all (just look what happened when Universal insisted his film of "At the mountain's of madness" have a PG-13 rating and a happy ending) and I'm sure he knows acti would only screw it up.

@28 the orphanage isn't one of his films, he only produced it. He only made Blade 2, chronos, mimic, devils backbone (best ghost film ever!), pan's labyrinth, hellboy 1+2, and the upcoming pacific rimm. Everything else he either produced (orphanage) or wrote or both (Afraid of the dark).

@29 good call mate yes he did produce orphanage but was an amazing film, i agree devils backbone is one of the best ghost films....afraid of the dark was actually quite good but hands down his opus is pans labyrinth..the trailer for pacific rim does look good though

i want a horror game thats different to the rest of the market and he can do that im fed up of zombies, the last 2 horror inspired games that took me by surprise were dead space1 and alan wake....
