| I love that people think the games rating will prevent a parent from buying it for their squeaker. |

| Honestly, what games would be rated R18+? That's the equivalent of the "A" rating that ESRB uses, and I think I've only ever seen one game with that rating, back during the N64 days. |

| Maybe it is because, at 25 and 26, my wife and I don't have kids, but if there is this monstrous fear that video games lead to behavior changes in children, then why don't parents become more educated in the industry? If your brat is begging for a video game, why don't you access the most convenient source of information in human history and do a little digging on the material in that game and what age group it is appropriate for? In America, the ESRB is really straightforward with its ratings and what constitutes E's, T's, and M's. Stop being a lazy parent and actually look at what your kid wants, then be a parent and decide whether you should buy it for them or not. The American media has mastered the practice of scapegoating and video games, materials a consumer must PURCHASE with THEIR OWN MONEY in order to use and experience, have been forced to fall on the sword for every societal tragedy or misstep since 2000. Meanwhile, Hollywood, a mirror-like equivalent in my mind, just skates by. |

It is good as it stops some games being rated lower than they are, but I still get frustrated when I'm playing AC3 and there is a little child screaming down the mic. If I were a parent, then my kids wouldn't be playing any game which is rated higher than their age, just like I had when I was younger than 18. |

| @10: I agree, I remember when I was a pre-teen, my father wouldn't allow me to get many M-Rated games, like Grand Theft Auto for example. I think nowadays people forget that games like Call of Duty and Skyrim have an "M" rating, yet parents can't be sure how "mature" a game really is. |

I bought gta3 when i was 16 and iv not had any desire to kill people. The parents get away with far to much, blaming this that and the other. the fundamental behavioral patterns of a child are determined by the parents. nothing else. If a child is influenced to the point where they are going out stabbing people after playing hitman then they have not been taught what is morally and humanly unacceptable by the parents. Fuck all to do with the game. |

@1 I am a younger "cooler" parent and I wouldn't be okay with my child buying a game, movie or etc. without my consent. I do think tho alot of it has to do with the parental responsibilty of imbueing the childs imagination with the "reality" check. I have stopped many of Parents from purchasing the blantly obvious violent games while at game stores before(not an employee) But then again, systems have those "checks and balances" right on the consoles now, and a responsible parent uses them. Sorry for the "Cool Story bros." OT: Congrats Aussies!!! |

| Either way adults mainly get games they think that their children would enjoy me myself when i first got my playstation 2 yearsssssssssssssss ago got GTA 3, Harry Potter ATCOS and Wipeout 3 i think not too sure on that but anyways i enjoyed HP and GTA but wipeout ain't my sorta game and so overall i was 90% pleased with what games i had as next days on i got crash bandicoot the wrath of cortex and list piled all the way up and enjoyed every game my parents got for me (i was 13/14 when i got them) i know it seems abit off topic but it's my way of saying that no matter what the age on a game is it matters if the person that it's baught for or plays it anything along them lines.... Enjoys it as is the meaning of games! F U N! |

| @1 I'm a parent and my 6 year old plays games for her age, and it will stay that way till she, and my son (who is only 2 at the moment) are old enough to buy their own games, same goes for films. Its the parents resposibility to vet what their child is doing when it comes down to things like this, and it's probably the reason games get bad press when a kid goes nuts and goes on a "spree". |

| I was playing tekken, mortal combat and the GTA series since I can remember I am 20 years old now. Although games have been a big part of my life starting out on the megadrive then 64 I have no desire to do anything of what people think games do to the immature young brain. I am successful at what I do so far and plan to keep goin that way....... |

| About bloody time. I remember buying GTA3 in Oz back before it was pulled from the shelves and censored. I guess now more than 11 years after the fact, technically someone is legally allowed to buy that unedited version again in Australia! (not that you would.. but thought it was an amusing factoid) |

| If your kid goes on a killing spree after playing some GTA nothings to blame but the parent. That doesn't mean your child should have to wait until hes 18 though. Its the parents job to weigh whether their child is mature enough to know the difference between right and wrong and the difference between reality and the game. |

@9 you are comparing apples to oranges. in the usa, we have a 17+ rating AND a 18+ rating. in australia, they only had a 15+ rating in the past, and many games that came out in the states were banned from sale in the au. this is a step towards loosening the grip of their nanny state. (note that the article says they reserve the rights to refuse to certify any title they wish, and unlike here in the states, an uncertified game can't legally be sold) |

| @9 - Actually that's wrong, It'll be the equivalent of ESRB's M rating which is 17+ I believe? (correct me if I'm wrong), or the equivalent to UK's PEGI 18 rating. It's just bringing us in step with the rest of the world. |

| @35 - that depends. The game would have to be re-submitted to the classification board, which will cost the publisher money. If they think it's worth it, they will do it. Though at this point in time, I personally feel it's not worth it, since we've gotten use to L4D2 as it currently is. |

@42 it means that some people will be able to play the game instead of nobody being able to play the game as was the case before. besides, do you REALLY think an 18+ rating is going to stop underaged people from getting the game? go play any major fps for a little while and see if that changes your opinion |

| It's a great start for many Aussie gamers. And now that I'm an adult over 18, I decided to preorder Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel for my Xbox 360, which will be rated R18+ since I have so many MA15+ rated video games on my played games list on Xbox 360. |
