Namco Bandai has set its phasers to stun today with a double whammy of Star Trek: The Video Game news, with both the game's release date and some pre-order incentives revealed.

Featuring Captain Kirk and his logical half-human half-Vulcan bestest friend forever Spock, Star Trek is a third-person co-op shooter in which the duo get lethal with their phasers and shoot up enemies that include the Gorn. The video game also boasts a completely new story created especially for the game written by BAFTA award winner Marianne Krawczyk.

If you pre-order the game, you can snap up the exclusive “Elite Officer Pack”, which includes the following gubbins:

  • Stealth Pack – Kirk and Spock stealth uniforms, plus Starfleet Type IV Stealth Sniper Rifle and extra ammo
  • Brawler Pack – Kirk leather jacket costume and Spock Vulcan Science Academy costume
  • Kelvin Pack – Kirk and Spock  U.S.S. Kelvin uniforms, plus  U.S.S. Kelvin Hand Phaser
  • Academy Pack – Kirk Academy Uniform, Spock Officer Dress Uniform, plus Academy Phaser
  • Kobayashi Maru Pack – Kirk and Spock  Kobayashi Maru uniforms

Star Trek: The Video Game will be warping to stores on April 26th, 2013. Check out an image of the pre-order Elite Officer pack below.

  • This game could be quite good..
  • It just feels like more of a rental right now..
  • Seams like a Mass Effect nock off?.. Hard to say..
  • They couldn't come up with something better than "Star Trek: the video game" Tie-in games really need to have better though out titles than this. Makes it seem like a crappy shovelware title.
  • BFF - LOL, I will pass. This game looks like something deserving to be on that shameless cash in list. Hopefully I am wrong (for the sake of all interested), but will not be buying it either way...
  • They need to come up with a Star Trek game that mixes in some open world Fallout style game play.
  • JJ's Star Trek and The Wrath of Khan are only good Star Trek anything.
  • Definitely going to be waiting on the reviews for this one. Love Star Trek in general, but I'm not down to waste money on a potentially shitty game.
  • Please please please don't have a shitty online mode, or for that matter..an online mode atall! If this game is even close to a cheap knock off of Mass Effect though,it will still be purchased!!!
  • seems good pre-order bonuses
  • Star Trek into Bargain Bins It all just looks too generic and underwhelming to be anything more than a conveniently timed cash-in, let alone something that can do justice to the Abrams films. Shame really.
  • According to .startrekgame.com, the game releases in the US on April 23, 2013, and has the same pre-order bonuses listed here. I was worried that the different uniform packs would be broken out into different exclusives here in the states.
  • This game will sell like shit because it's just a generic 3rd person shooter that has nothing to do with Star Trek. No exploration, no ship battles, no characterization, no away missions with puzzles to solve. Then they'll never make another Star Trek game because they will cite the lackluster sales as evidence that people aren't interested. How about this? Make a good Star Trek game, not generic space shooter #9000.
  • At #2: That is exactly what I thought when I saw a trailer. From the very brief trailer I saw it looked like a Mass Effect clone in the Star Trek universe. Which could be...Great. Of course it could also be god awfully bad
  • @ 7 100% agree, wished the sequal had Kahn though instead sum random nobody! Ugh!
  • But Bethesda DID give us "Star Trek Legacy!" Oh, wait... were still holding our breath for an apology for that travesty!!! Somebody needs to re-release that Star Trek game from the arcade (1982) for the 360 (as an XBLA game). THAT Star Trek game was FUN!!! I'd drop 800 MS Points for that (I probably did, in quarters).
  • Fascinating!
  • Ive been a Trekker all my life. My loyalty demands I purchase this. I bought Star Trek Legacy on release day, I bought tons of other crappy Star Trek games in past years and damn it, I WILL BUY THIS ONE.
  • I hope that it turns out to be a good game. Live Long and Prosper.
