I know EA shutting down servers is old news, but why the hell do they keep putting in the online achievements if they're just going to shut down the servers 2 years later? What a fucking joke.

I dont unterstand why people get so upset by this. Who the hell plays Fifa 11 ONLINE? EA maybe rich and shit but why provide servers for games that nobody plays...

I wonder if they'll soon announce the next series of non-sporting games to have servers taken offline.

@2 I have no problem with them shutting down servers where a game contains no online achievements. Now and again I like to pick up an old game and still like to get 100% on it. Where they shut down the servers, they should automatically give the online achievements to anyone who sticks the disc in the drive.

Next Gen MS, Sony and Nintendo need to insist that if EA and other are going to use there own servers that when they want to close there server to make room for the next game they have to switch it to P2P. Giving everybody a chance to get achievements and for people like my friend who enjoyed playing prostreet online with his friends doing drag races and drift races. Since ProStreet Drift and Drag haven't been done again in NFS so it isn't a simple case of buying the next new product.

I feel very strongly about shit like this. What about if they decide one day to start making a game unplayable after a year or two, online or offline, just because there are newer versions out. If I prefer FIFA 11 to the newer games then that's my decision. Maybe a friend of mine feels the same, so we play eachother online every night, and that's the reason we bought the game. We don't touch local play or Manager mode. We just love to play against eachother in FIFA 11. For the record, I don't even like FIFA and this is just hypothetical. I just have strong views about this nonsense -- if I buy a game I should be able to use all features of the game for AT LEAST the length of that console generation. As long as there are still TWO people still interested in playing the game online, EA have a duty to cater to their wishes. |

I think it should be made a law that EA have to put ON THE BOX that in a year or two you will not be able to access the games online features. Seems only fair the customer knows what he is paying for.

The worst thing is, is the fact that the Online Pass that allows you play online is still live on the marketplace, meaning you can buy it, just not use it because the EA shut the server down. It really is wrong.

So glad, that I got all the online achievements during the Summer. The only achievement I'm currently missing for this game is Virtual Legend, which is play 500 matches with your virtual pro.....basically a bullshit achievement that EA should never put on FIFA again. Thank god, it's only 50 in Fifa 12.

@20, I agree, i'm not a fan of online achievements in general but this is the main reason why i don't like them. Online Achievements should either be removed or automatically unlocked when servers close down.

It's interesting. If they shut down NBA Jam:OFE which was released last year, but don't shut down NFS:HP which was released in 2010,then that older games statement is a bunch of crap.

"The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy" Given how often and how quickly they do it, I suspect that's a lie. |
