E3 2008: Themes Will Be Compatible With New Dashboard

One of the biggest questions pertaining to the new Dashboard update is whether or not themes and gamerpics will be able to be carried over to the new look. Avatars seem to be taking the place of gamerpics, although they could possibly play a role on the blade system of the Guide button, only time will tell. However, we did get word from Gamerscoreblog that it has been confirmed that all existing themes will be able to be used on the new Xbox Dashboard. Pictures are included in the link as well, so you'll be able to see for yourself what it should look like. That's certainly good news, and it makes the Dashboard look a lot better than the plain color on the whole thing. More details should emerge over the next couple months before the update launches, and we'll be sure to bring you every possible detail as soon as we get word.

	Man, that new dashboard reminds me so much of the ps3/windows media center. But avatars suck, a lot. Xbox was always known as the hardcore gaming console, now it's becoming an 8 year old's best friend. And we all know, that we don't like listening to 8 year olds whilst playing CoD 4 and the such.

	Note: This isn't an Avatar news post, its about themes on the new Dashboard. And it really amazes me how much you people whine about one feature, even though everything else that was announced about the new Dashboard is absolutely mind blowing. Really weird, if you ask me.. Pretty sure some of you will end up enjoying Avatars, seeing as you'll most likely unlock swag for achievements. Equip your Avatar with a Lancer, and it'll be far less kiddy..

	To all the people that are saying that avatars suck: you know that you will be messing around them...come on, admit it. Its really not that bad - be creative and have fun with them. I'm sure you could make funny one if you tried. There are endless possibilites too, unlike the finite # of gamer pics. 	As said earlier the new set up looks kind of live teh one on PS3, not good. I enjoy the blade system. As far as teh avatars go, I really don't care. I just want to know whats going on with gamerpics. Oh and thank god for teh theme thing.

	Im 22 and i dont care if its Avatars or Gamerpics. Im glad you can use old theses still, but tbh i do prefer the old old dashboard but this looks ok to me. I dont really like things to change even if they get better but thats just the way i am. The main thing i dont like is the 3d sliding blades. Oh well gotta live with it. Also stop swearing about avatars theres no need for it here guys.

	This is, IMO, the only good thing about the new Dashboard. I think it looks bad now and Avatars are a blatant rip-off of the Miis. The netire thing is a mistake to me.

	To al of those bitching about gamerpics and themes. Why did you get a 360 to play games or to get gamerpics and themes. Do you think that people reall give a rats ass about what gamerpic you have or the theme that is on your dashboard. Microsoft is progresing and you need to deal with it. 	Avatars can be interesting to mess around with, but we should have a choice of how to express ourselves with our gamerpic. Avatars are a bit restrictive in terms of what you can be, what you can look like. True there may be different clothing and attire..but in the base it's still the same thing, and just different clothing. IF they allowed avatars that weren't all human, that would be neat. Like a raptor, a wolf, a mecha, or some giant bug eyed space baby. Gamerpics can at least touch upon those things. With Microsoft keeping themes, it makes sense they'd keep gamerpics as well as an option, I don't see why they'd just dump them, especially with all the sponsorships they receive with them, and the money people have paid for them.

	If you spent more than 120 points on a gamerpic, you're a moron. Xbox offered plenty of FREE gamerpics for you to pick from and the idea where you couldn't make up your goddamn mine what you wanted this 1x1 inch square to have in it is just crazy. 	Face it, 99% of the Internet are bitches and whiners who dislike change. IMO, aside from the addition of the Marketplace blade, every update they've made thus far to the Dashboard has made it worse; less organised and more cluttered. The system is laggy and clunky. The new Dash looks more current gen, and for those who are in love with the current Dash, you still have access to it in the Xbox guide. IF you have a choice between Avatars and gamerpics, go with what you want, but don't bitch. Both the Wii and PS3 have avatars, yes I don't see people making all these jackass comments for the other systems. I prefer them just because they're more personalised. If I can use them as well as gamerpictures, I'll be very happy.

	Personally I think Mii's are rayman's illegal children that some put sticks for legs with, it almost obvious that gamerpics are still available the new look and avatars are nothing but an additional option to the dashboard. I prefer my sonic gamer pic but I might just move it around occasionally to an avatar. 	Wonderful, before i couldn't see my themes with all the crap they put in front of it. So how do they fix that, well they put in full blocks infront it them. FANTASTIC! And screw Avatars. Sure they are free to start one but of course the add ons will costly. Thought 100 points for a gamer pic was bad, how about 400 points for a pair of pants. I don't even want to wear pants!!!

	The themes working in that way are really nice... That GoW theme looks amazing. But what about themes where half the content is near the bottom of the image? I have a Halo theme where all I'd see is the sky in the image... boring! Either way, gamerpics don't bother me that much. Though, I think they'll fit them in in the top right corner. Maybe instead of that little Avatar picture, you could use a gamerpic? Stop the whining and complain about it when you actually see it for yourself.

	It should be the opposite, Microsoft needs to be copied because of their success, not copy other crappy consoles, (wii), and hope they can get money off these stupid ass soccer moms. Becasuse Microsoft doesn't realize how crucial Hardcore gamers like us are to their business. The Dashboard is ok, I prefer the blade style. But I will role with it. One thing I cannot get over is the horrible idea of avatars. It's a tremendously bad move for MS, and they should just focus on Hardcore games.

	New dash is fucking pathetic. A halfassed implementation of multiple direct ripoffs. I want to keep gamertiles and use the entire traditional bladed dash. Not this "we've still got the blades...in the popup guide" attempt at placating people who already thought the dash was the most solid of all current game console GUIs. Gamercards are all I need to know about people. Not some grade school mentality cartoon character that is certain to have nowhere near enough customization to make it as unique as the concept implies.

	Looks like a big degrade to old dashboard in my eyes, the design is awfull and avatars look even worse. Ofcourse people will get used to it but I just don't see the point over ruining good looking concept for that.

	i really, really dont see why people are so pissed, i mean yes, it is very obvious they are either ripping off, or just admiring the wii and stealing its stuff, either way, i dont see why people are so up in arms, the 360 is still coming out with great games, or am i misstaken, is this update voiding all the good games coming out... is it... i dont think so, so shut up, im sorry but it had to be said, i personaly think this update, beside the avaters, is there to help things be easier, such as the downloading the game disk to the hardrive, instant acess to the "channels" even when your playing a game... so in the end, all you out there bitchin, think about it, is the 360 still suporting the games you love... then shut up

	Provided I can still play all my lovely games I really don't care what the dashboard looks like. Added functionality is always nice, but I bought my 360 to play games...oh and HD DVDs...whoops. Avatar gave us all 1000 easy gamescore, stop complaining...

	I am just speechless over the difference between the new dashboard without themes and with themes. It looks perfect now imo. I'm not going to knock avatars until I see what they do with them. But I sure as hell will be pissed if they charge me a dollar for a t-shirt or something.

	this just shows that even microsoft realise that the wii is the only console taking video gaming forward, first the ps3 copying a motion controller, and now this, as 102 says, as long as i can do all the shit i did before i dont care, be nice to clean it up a bit. and 92, the reason the wii is the best selling console is because its reaching out to all forms of gamers, whether hardcore or not, microsoft realises it needs to expand its target area to increase its sales, its a bold but smart move.

	It seems to me that Microsoft is "stealing" ideas and the the only original thing they've really done is adding the movie features like Netflix and being able to download HD movies and T.V. shows. Think about it though, it's just another way for them to suck money out of your bank account. The prices for most downloadable content is outrageous anyway without adding this. I'm sorry but if I'm paying $50.00 a year for my membership AND buying video games and hardware that comes out (controllers, charge kits and faceplates), I think we're entitled to some free shit! I'll get off my soap box now...but I'll end it with this, Microsoft is pissing me off and if I owned a sniper rifle, I'd end this crap wth my own trigger finger.

	I think microsofts move to avatars is good and bad. I aint a fan of the things but from a business side it makes sense. Microsoft aint claiming that they came up with the idea the have just seen the potential in the market and used it. The new dashboard looks better than what we have now and some of the new features announced at the E3 sound good. I think that the 360 isnt just for hardcore gamers it should be for everyone and maybe creating communities is the way forward. I say why not have the best console in the world having all the best features for not just hardcore gamers but for everyone else too. We gamers can adapt and im quite sure that the new update will allow us to still do everything that we can now and more.

	I said it before and I'll say it again: I won't even download this new update if I can help it. First of all, I already have a lame avatar system in my Wii. Second of all, the new dashboard looks pretty bad. It's like it's trying to be a PS3 with everything lined up on screen at once, instead of the current (and superior) system of multiple pages. Basically, I bought a 360 because it wasn't a PS3 or Wii. Why the hell is Microsoft trying to turn it into both?

	For as long as I can still use my old gamerpics(Honestly, I'm one of them dipshits that used to buy a crapload of them things for no reason whatsoever), I don't care either way. Replacing something is never good, cause there's always some that liked the older. Adding, like with the themes now, being able to combine old with new; Is good, as you statisfy both parties.
