E3 2008: Complete Rock Band 2 Set List Revealed

Written Monday, July 14, 2008 by Jason Debelyak

Today at the Microsoft Press Conference, Harmonix and MTV Games revealed the set list for the upcoming Rock Band 2.  The names of the songs were obviously extremely hard to read, but thanks to IGN.com, we have the complete list of songs that will be featured in the game.  Keep in mind that also officially announced today, although we've heard wind of it already, is that all of the tracks from the original Rock Band will be forward compatible in Rock Band 2.  Therefore, you'll be able to add all of those songs directly into your Rock Band 2 setlist, along with any previous and future DLC.  Did I mention that every song on the disc is a master recording?  Without further ado, here is the complete Rock Band 2 setlist, complete with Artist, Song Title, and Decade:

Some true classics on here:

Man In The Box, Lump, Give It Away, Spoonman! Not to mention, The Trees! :D

Rock Band will always own Guitar Hero -- Harmonix is where the real talent is at!

That's a pretty impressive list. Love that it isn't full of obvious choices, never thought I'd get to play Tangled Up In Blue on the 360!

Wow, pretty good list... most songs are great, but there are some that seriously could be replaced. Panic at the Disco!?!?!?!?!?!?!? PANIC AT THE DISCO!?!?!?!?!? Where has our world's musical taste gone? Of ALL the bands to pick, one of them was Panic at the Disco. PANIC AT THE DISCO. Oh my god. Even the Naked Brothers Band are better.

@ #9 -- With Rock Band songs plus all previous DLC, there will be over 300 possible songs on your setlist at the time of release. 300 songs on the disc out of the box would never happen..

Are you fucking kidding me? Of all GnR songs we get one off an album that will NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY?!

The MMB song too is bad... And then the sea of shit (Paramore, A7X, Panic!, AFI, Linkin Park and then some... I better not be forced to play some of those shit songs in career.

Happy to see PJ, AiC, Bon Jovi, Lit, Nirvana, RATM and Talking Heads though. Only redeeming factors really

people whining about tracks drive me crazy.

If you don't like 6 out of 84, they did a pretty great job.

Hack out a copy of guitar hero 2 and put whatever shitty local bands you want on there.

28. Jimmy Eat World - The Middle - 2000s
30. Journey - Anyway You Want It - 1970s

Its Girls NOT Grey. Glad to see it is an AFI song not already on GH3. Though i think The Leaving song Pt.2 or Days of the Phoenix would be even cooler songs. Paramore on this game is EPIC!!! Love Paramore, Love AFI and now i love this game. Defiantly gonna buy it. But just the game.

Little side note that's not mentioned:

IGN said that Harmonix and MTV wanted to put 100 songs on the disc, but couldn't do it in the time frame. So sometime after the release, MTV will have 20 additional songs as DLC...FOR FREE.

Have Activision put that in their pipe and smoke it!

Something here for everyone, at least ten songs on there that made me smile. Beck, ACDC, Bob Dylan, Ratt, Devo, Social Distortion. A lot of good there. A lot of good modern alt rock and some classic artists I've been waiting for.
But then again they have Panic! at the disco and Alanis Morissette. But on the whole I'm happy, and for the 20 free download songs. Definitely buying the disc

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 @ 12:56:55 AM

Wow, this is going to be the best soundtrack to date! Thank God for zero songs that are also on the other carbon copy games. There is some really good diversity on this list. And those of you complaining about Panic! at the Disco, some people probably actually like them (not me!), so why not put them in? I don't like all these songs, but I understand why they put them on there. They're not going to cater to one man's needs, they are going for the general population. This means that there WILL be both songs you love and songs you hate.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 @ 01:05:02 AM

#46 - Sorry to make a generalization, but most people that like Panic are middle school girls with no sense in music that enjoy their lyrics but can't comprehend the concept of "talent". Panic has enthralling lyrics but their singer is equivalent to a pile of goat feces. I don't think middle school girls are supposed to be the target audience for this game, thus stupid bands like Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco and My Chemical Romance should be left out.

Comment #48 by ii br00tal ii
Tuesday, July 15, 2008 @ 01:13:54 AM

Ehhh, I know a few middle school girls who have Rock band, so maybe they should be in there?

Comment #49 by ii br00tal ii
Tuesday, July 15, 2008 @ 01:15:45 AM

By "they" I mean Panic! at the Disco. And believe me, I don't like Panic! at the Disco one bit. But I understand why they would be in there. Also, I don't think one songs would decide who the target audience who the target audience is as there are much more songs from the 90s, 80s, and 70s. But if it were all from those decades, there definitely would be less copies sold as teens and preteens would know a lot more 2000s songs then 70s and 80s.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 @ 01:18:34 AM

There's actually a lot less songs in this that I know and like than in Rock Band 1.

Panic at the Disco and Linkin Park are depressing me. Panic at the Disco is not fit for a game like this...and I don't really like Linkin' Park.

In my book, GH just lost... but they still have time. Dear lord I love how picky some of you are. Rock Band just got fricking AC/DC and some of the greatest classics ever... and you complain about 7 of the 85 songs... Please, stop bitching, and be happy with the other 78 songs.

This is why I'm so happy to like all rock, except screamo. Yes, I like PATD and Megadeth at the same time, so RB2 is a must for me. And this is only Day 1 of E3!

Ac/dc finally after all these years and now the wait begins for funeral for a friend streetcar and roses for the dead are the perfect songs for a music game not complainin hopefully they will be in the 20 free songs man that would be heaven to bad im goin to get a bunch of crappy frteshman homework in 08 and 09

why can't they see that there are a lot of people who like new metal bands. the only appealing track on there is Almost Easy and i alreday have that on GH3, so big deal =/ nonetheless i'll be getting this anyway.

GUNS N ROSES WOO HOO! and I swear if Guitar Hero World Tour has either Coma or November Rain on it or if not but at least more then two GNR songs then I will be buying it

@#17 Why the hell would they put In Bloom on RB 2 if its already on RB 1? Moron. Its a pretty good set list, with some real good and some real bad :P I'm looking forward to going wild to a bit of Down With The Sickness and Chop Suey :D

Panic Attack by Dream Theater, that's all I need. It doesn't hurt that they have Motorhead too as well as Mastodon. Nice set list but I agree with whoever said Panic at the Disco, WTF!

Ugh, all these 'hate' posts complaining about shit songs. I know for a fact that if I was playing this with a group of people that they would all have different tastes...and whilst I agree that Panic and Paramore would not have been my favourite songs to play, I could name one or two people I know who would love to play these songs.

Good list, now I just need them to make a better drum set (one that won't break) and it is a definite buy along with GH4.

#53...

The AC/DC track is a lose. They could've picked something better, say Thunderstruck, Dirty Deeds, If You Want Blood, etc.

But they picked Let There Be Rock because of its length.

Battery and peace sells, hell yeah! I was hoping for turbonegro, but I guess the rumors weren't true. It sucks that they had to put gnr without slash. gnr is a joke ever since slash quit the band. I am also glad to see rage against the machine, but I am really dissappointed that my favorite band Kiss doesn't have any music on the list.

"Panic Attack" by Dream Theater! Wow!
Ladies and gentlemen, you have your "big boss" song!
I would pay 60 buck just to get my hand on this one song, let alone for an epic list of 84 great (more or less) songs! GHWT has a lot to live up for!

No surprises here IMO. Theres good songs and shitty songs.
Personally they both cancel each other out, but as long as this game is compatible with the original rock band peripherals we should all be happy.

Thursday, July 17, 2008 @ 06:52:48 AM

Wow...Guitar Hero IV is going to have to work much harder than I thought they were...In order to be at all competitive it would have to have a master track of Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana, nothing else could really compete with Alive by Pearl Jam in my mind...(except maybe Jeremy by Pearl Jam)

Tuesday, July 29, 2008 @ 03:35:29 PM

So at least there's some Indie rock with Interpol.

If they want some more Indie, can I have some Flaming Lips or Cake? The Distance, Short Skirt/Long Jacket, Yoshimi, Bad Days. Hell, I'll settle for some lesser songs.

I'm upset there's no new Radiohead or Weezer, but with plenty of Weezer DLC and My Iron Lung, I'll be content. This set list may be better than GH2. O.O

The two songs im most exited for are
A7X-almost easy and
Disturbed-Down with the sickness two

there are some other amazing songs that are going to make this a great game

Sunday, September 07, 2008 @ 06:18:29 PM

But honestly why do they have to put crap songs on every music game, why dont they realise that they put songs on that nobody likes shouldent somebody realize that if they put panic at the disco and the muffs on they are just going to lose fans?????

Friday, September 12, 2008 @ 06:46:12 PM

Hmm, a little late on this I guess. I just read the GHWT list (blech), and RB 2's isn't much better. At least we get a better Soundgarden song this time. Funny thing, though, I just heard Ratt for the first time earlier today. They're okay I guess.

Kansas and Journey FTW!

They are missing some.

Queen
Ozzy
Hendrix
Iron Maiden
The Eagles
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Lost Prophets

I hope they have MCR, Queen, Iron Maiden, and Ozzy in DLC in the future.

The 2 best songs for Queen would be Bohemian Rhapsody and Don't Stop Me Now.

The 2 best Maiden songs would be Fear of the Dark, and Be Quick or Be Dead

Ozzy obviously needs Crazy Train.

Come on DLC!!! I need those songs!!
