Hitman: Absolution

Hitman: Absolution Online Pass No Longer Required For Contracts

Square Enix has binned the online pass code required to play Hitman: Absolution's asynchronous Contracts mode, meaning that it's now completely free for anyone, even those who purchase a copy of the game used.

The publisher has essentially had second thoughts regarding the online pass for Contracts, deciding that it made more sense to ensure the mode was available to everyone.

"We’re so excited that Hitman: Absolution is launching next week! In particular, we’re looking forward to all of the amazing ways players can challenge each other in the innovative CONTRACTS mode – where you get to call the shots," IO Interactive stated on its Hitman: Absolution blog. “We’d actually planned to have this mode accessible via a code in the game’s box, but we really want to make it available to anybody that plays the game – so we want to take a new approach.”

You'll be able to access the online pass for Contracts via the in-game menu where you'll be able to grab it for free, or you can still use the code bundled in the game box with new copies. Hitman: Absolution is out tomorrow worldwide, and is actually rather bloody good.

Well this really wasn't a pure online mode, so it never made sense to require a pass. So to compare it to what EA, Ubisoft and others do is completely asinine. Personally I think they should have just made it where any new content is free for those with the pass and costs a few bucks for others.

Was getting day one anyways. With this, Halo 4, Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3 on Black Friday, and the last Walking Dead episode, this is going to be a busy, busy year.

WTF? That is the way it used to be you idiots. The greed from developers is what made them start using online codes.

I hope they make it so that people who do redeem an online pass get some kind of DLC or bonus.

Good move. What really surprised me was that neither COD nor Halo included the online pass system yet games that are dominantly single player do, such as Hitman and Ac3.

OT. EA can suck my balls for starting the trend.

If you think about it they were always going to stick us with the pass, but there was a mistake in the US version of the code which allowed gamers to access it for free, so instead of recalling the game they just spun it to make them sound like they were doing it for the gamers.

Either way I'm glad it's free for everyone. Game is amazing.

Introduce the idea of using a system we don't like then take it away and act like you're hooking us up. Instant fan support.

Kingdoms of Amalur had an Online Pass from EA and the whole game was single player.
