just talked to a ladie from ms about this. she said the following; " i thought xbox live was older than that. i have no knowledge of any such offer at this time. while it is possible, i highly doubt this offer. so unless a website is giving away xboxes. than its not a valid offer that i am aware of."
so after reading this,calling ms about it, i'm convienced its not valid. she went on to mention that offers are posted on xbox.com. so unless posted there. i wouldnt get your hopes up.

This is a very generous gift but I don't see the point. Obviously whoever has had live for 10 years currently has a 360. Why would they need/want another one? I'm sure we'll see these popping up on ebay the day after their received.
A better gift for 10 years of loyalty would've been to give away a 720 or whatever the next gen console would be. |

| I was a live beta tester before it launched (You had to pay for a year up front to test no less, haha) but they decided to ban modchipped decks when it switched on 11/15/02 (of all the gall, right? they had been saying 'we don't care' for the proceeding weeks, probably just so they could collect incorrect checksum signatures or something) so I didn't bother with live again til I got a 360 in Dec '05... those are pretty damn nice looking decks |

Just so we're clear:
"The Xbox 360 was released on November 22, 2005, in the United States and Canada; December 2, 2005, in Europe and December 10, 2005, in Japan." (from Wikipedia, sure, but the info's still correct...)
So, for the XBOX 360 to be 10 years old, today's date would have to be at least November 22, 2015, which I think even the most deluded of us would have to concede that it is not.
So next Thursday (Thanksgiving!), the XBOX 360 will be officially 7 years old.
On the other hand:
XBOX Live was launched November 15, 2002 (again, from the wiki) which makes THIS Thursday (i.e.; tomorrow as I write this) the 10th Anniversary of the launch of the service.
So tomorrow, the XBOX Live service will be officially 10 years old.
I hope this has settled the confusion... |

I've asked our local MS rep about this. He has NO specific details, but he's inclined to say, they were thinking of doing 1 free console, everyday from the anniversay to year's end. So, if that's true about 45-50 consoles.
Best of luck. I know I've been in since day one and I really doubt if I can get that lucky.
IF.. Anyone on here gets one.. do not open it! If it's 1 in 50 or so, it will be worth a MINT in a few years. I'd wrap it in bubble wrap and rebox it and store it awway for a few years. |

So here's how awesome my luck is... I got home to this voicemail back in October: "Hi this message is for Ben, my name is Delaney and I am calling on behalf of Xbox and Microsoft. This coming November Xbox Live will be celebrating it's 10 year anniversary and you've been identified as one of our most valued members. For that, we would like to send you a gift in the mail to show our appreciation. If you could please call us back at 1-877-###-#### by October 22nd, to confirm we have the right shipping address for you. Thank you."
I called and it was a recording that wanted me to leave my address, name and phone number. Skeptical, I decided to call Xbox Support (I also tweeted Major Nelson asking if it was legit, but never heard back) and they told me it was bogus and that Xbox would never contact me by phone. I asked him if Xbox would contact me once an investigation had been done, he said there wouldn't be one, then I had to beg him for a reference number so I could check back anyway.
I then got a 2nd voicemail a week later about the promotion, same message as the first, but with a deadline of Oct. 29th. I called the number and the recording was slightly different, and sounded even sketchier than the first because they wanted my gamertag this time. So... again I hung up and assumed it was bogus.
Then I see this story on Major's blog... so I called Xbox support back an hour ago to see what was up. The first guy put me on hold and then got disconnected, and the second person just apologized and recommended I call the promotional number and leave a message (which is now for a Six Flags promotion, by the way), and then go on the forums and explain my plight. Well, pretty sure this ship has sailed.
Long story short, I never left my address, now people are getting unique Xboxes and I'm a chump for being cautious and trusting Xbox's customer service. FML. Although they were nice customer service people... oh well. |

But it is a shame that the Support staff is not up-to-date with their information. I had the same problem with the beta dashboard three years ago where it bricked my xbox during the update and the person had no idea what I was talking about when I called for help. Luckily it fixed itself after an hour, but still...
And I can't be the only person in the U.S. who got this random phone call and didn't question it... right? Ugh. |

I think the nicest consoles are the black slim ones, with matt being nicer than gloss (I have gloss). I haven't liked any of the special editions ones that have come out.
Besides, 10 minutes after you get it, you stop looking at it. Nice bonus for those who have had live since the start. Punt this online and you could probably make back the equivalent of a good few years of LIVE. |

| Yeah I got the helmet too, I also was skeptical all my friends said it sounded like a scam. I too called xbox and they said something similar to you that it sounded like a scam as well and not to trust it, but when they called a second time my husband answered the phone and told the person that this is just a scam and she said no it was legit he asked to speak to her surpervisor which wasn't available but the next day I got a call from a xbox/microsoft customer relations guy and an email stating it was in fact the real thing so I gave him my info and got my xbox today. Sucks for you but I would of been in the same boat as you if my husband didn't answer the phone the 2nd time they called. Just sucks they never spread the word at xbox incase people weren't so trusting so if they did call to verify they could answer correctly makes you wonder how many people didn't get one that should have got one for that reason. Sorry :( |

I really don't understand the dislike about the appearance of this 10-year anniversary console - except it's probably just sour grapes (you kids will have to look that up if you don't know what that means)!
Personally... I think it has a military-style color (U.S. Navy, specifically) look to it... with a touch of Xbox colors. I like it! If I won one of the ones they are giving away in that contest, I'd probably go ahead and sell my MW2 console... since I don't need 3 consoles (I already have the Star Wars console). I just wish the controller that is packaged with the anniversary console had the transforming D-Pad on it! |
