Assassin's Creed is without a doubt Ubisoft's biggest franchise, garnering critical and commercial success with each successive iteration. Assassin's Creed III is the first proper sequel since Assassin's Creed II, with spin-offs Brotherhood and Revelations buying Ubi extra time and money to pour into Connor's outing.

Three years in the making, there's a lot riding on Assassin's Creed III, with it taking the series to the American Frontier and into cities like Boston and New York. Has the development team done enough to make ACIII a significant stride forward for the series though, or is the game simply a visual overhaul with a few new game mechanics thrown in for good measure?
