Medal of Honor: Warfighter's Day One Patch is Insanely Large

Medal of Honor: Warfighter, which launches today in North America, has an almighty day one patch.

Contained within is a whole bunch of bug fixes, some of which sound absolutely vital. You’re going to want to install this straight away. Indeed Danger Close “heartily encourages” it.

So why isn’t this content on the disc? Or more importantly, why wasn’t Medal of Honor: Warfighter finished before it was shipped to stores? We can only presume that Danger Close ran out of time and had to go gold in order to hit its schedule. A patch is its Get Out of Jail card.

It’s a worrying development, one made all the more notable by the sheer size of the patch. It may also go some way to explaining why reviews for the game have yet to materialise.

Because EA wouldn’t want us to review an unfinished game, would it?

Medal of Honor: Warfighter, or at least most of it, arrives in Europe on October 25th and the UK on October 26th.

  • shocking. How can they be made to release a game which is surely incomplete to a certain extent
  • Hey, they just want the game to be perfect. :D hopefully it is, will be picking up after work today (:
  • Wow and here I thought there wasn't anything that could make me want this game less!
  • That's quite the fumble there.
  • Has it been confirmed if a texture pack is needed for 360 users?
  • that's a huge list
  • So what? big day one patch whooopie.............Fact is more Devs are doing this gamers are buying broken games at launch every year. Want this sort of thing to stop happening stop buying top titles at launch date. This is all CoD fault, it has crippled the FPS market so any other FPS that comes out before it has to come out on time so things do get rushed then after the game goes gold they got about a month and half to fix everything they need to before it is released.
  • Why on earth are people complaining ???? They are getting it out on release day so there is nothing to worry about . Im sick of all the hate this game is getting . Its easily a better shooter than COD and as good if not better than battlefield . So many people are talking crap about this game and i just don't get it . Almost every problem people complained about in the beta sounds like it has been fixed . People will complain about EVERYTHING it seems
  • Well that explains why no websites have got review copies...
  • i think this is EA trick to prevent the hackers. So if they have modded console they can get the perfect item.which is us can get a perfect item with downloading the patch.smart move :p
  • quit cryin people... i bet if you created a fps you would do what you had to to get the game out before cod released..
  • @8, 11 probably because they've shipped a broken game. It's not too much of a problem for users with access to XBL, but what about users who aren't connected to the Internet? Does the game come with a warning on the box 'unless you have access to XBL, the game will not work properly'? Doubtful. Shameless EA as usual. I suppose it doesn't affect me because I'm not planning on buying this anyway.
  • @12 First off the game is not "broken" anyways . Im sure it still plays fine overall . Second off what you said about users not connected to xbox live you could say about a countless number of games . Games have glitches and unexpected problems and you can not fix them all . Over time these are fixed and if you don't have an internet connection well your screwed there is not much more to it . In this day and age most serious gamers and even just the majority who play games are connected to the internet . A day one patch never means a game is broken . No game ships without some form of bug or glitch in it somewhere and games with day one patches fix some of those right off the bat . Its a good thing i have no idea why the hell someone would complain about it
  • @7 yeah coz CoD releases huge day 1 dlc to make their game playable.....troll on topic, this game will nosedive so hard no one will know whatit is by xmas
  • Why do you think there was a BETA? Just because a game has a patch on release to fix issues, doesn't make it a BAD game. Just be grateful that there doing it on release and not have you play a buggy piece of shit for a few weeks, christ some people are fucking clueless.
  • Maybe this has something to do with that thing released less than a month ago called a beta? Which I actually enjoyed for what it was worth. People are already hating so hard on this game before it gets released.
  • Damn.. That's a long list for a day one patch but probably a good thing it's out day one as opposed to a week or a month later.
  • @1 Because they have to release it before CoD, just like with BF3, which was incomplete as well.
  • Didnt like the beta at all. Slow, sluggish, boring. But this is good news for those who do like it!
  • shock ea putting out a broken game
  • How did anybody expect anything else, it's EA, all they care is getting it out and bringing in the money so they can then release a load of over priced map packs/maps skins.
  • @7 The perfect example of how some parts of the gaming community blindly hate Call of Duty. But seriously, I can't believe it is this bad! XD GG.
  • This is also they reason they need to have a public beta a few months before a game goes gold rather than after it already has so they can fix the problems before they ship it
  • judging by the review sites, EA dont seem in too much of a hurry for reviews to go out.......silence speaks in volumes
  • @13 'Improved single player stability and fixed progression stoppers.' Sounds pretty broken to me mate.
  • @14- you don't even know what a troll is n00b. @22 - no see it not blind if you own most CoD games, which i do. i stop buying Cod after Bl ops because IMO(an alot others peoples) it the same game each year in a different skin. People are sick of CoD and before it got so popular by young kids good FPS took about 3 yrs to make. With new Cod games each year it has changed the FPS market that FPS games have to be pushed out the door with alot bugs to try even make a dent in that market now. EA is the only company that can take on Activision yearly CoD games and until we get a CoD that fails on a large scale we are going to be stuck with this sort FPS for years to come. IMO the best FPS we had this generation is Rainbow Six anyhow because it is tactical FPS for the mature gamer and not this runonsense nonesense aimed at kids 10 and up. I support EA purI'my because iActivisionh I'mtivisiI'm. Im sure im not alone on this either
  • Edit*** I support EA purIy because im sick of Activision Im sure im not alone on this either
  • @26 Definitely agree with you. When they made the WW2 games they were brilliant but as soon as they went the path of the modern day shooter that's when it all started to change badly because of the kids. The new Rainbow Six and the new Brothers In Arms(If they stay true to the series, not that Inglorious Basterds crap) will most likely suffer due to it. @22 Blindly hate is a bit ridiculous, I enjoy the series But I dislike the path it has taken of late
  • Actually why is everyone arguing about CoD? This is an article about the fixes to MEDAL OF HONOR. Yes there were a lot of bugs that needed addressed, but that's why they ran a BETA, to spot any bugs and try to fix them for release, would it make you feel better about yourselves if they just said fuck it release it as a buggy mess, don't fix anything?
  • Why exactly is this a bad thing? Some of you are annoying. Played the game for a couple hours last night and it is actually very fun online and already much more polished than the beta. This patch will fix a number of things I was hoping they would. Nothing wrong with a day 1 patch..
  • Either people are incredibly dumb, or very naive. A Beta is not a demo, it's a Beta, it's a chance for everyone that partakes in it, to report bugs, errors, class unbalance and etc. The Beta was what? ... 2 weeks ago? So all the bugs that were reported by the Beta testers have been fixed for when the game is released. That doesn't make it a broken game if anything it shows that EA have listened to the complaints and read the reports and they're doing everything possible to make the game as enjoyable as possible. besides DICE make the Multiplayer side of the game (the same people that made BF3 btw!) I seriously doubt that any of the Single Player was even affected. Personally, I'm quite impressed that EA have addressed the issues at Launch, because if they waited weeks to fix the problems, I would've been pissed and probably wouldn't have bothered playing it. You people seriously need to learn the difference between a Beta and a Demo!
  • @31 But releasing a BETA two weeks prior to release just shows you how much of a mess this game must be in. Danger Close and EA haven't got a clue. Other games get their BETA months before release. How are you supposed to implement EVERYTHING in time for release day. Well, you can't. As stated previously, this game will likely require 5 title updates and 6 months before it is in a condition to compete.
  • @32 Maybe so, it may take that long and yes they released it (Danger) close to release but the fact is they did do a beta and are making fixes, timing may be way off but at least they are doing something about it. Me personally, a couple of months would have been a lot better but what can ya do
  • COD is like the iPhone, it changes a little bit here and there and people will go buy it. But in the end its still the same phone. I just want FPS games to not try and be like COD so they can sell it. Make youe game stand out and people will come.
  • Most likely, EA didn't send out early copies so that people wouldn't read all the mediocre reviews and just buy Halo 4 or Black Ops 2 instead.
  • I've been saying for months that this game is going to bomb and I think this validates my point pretty well
  • I would also like to say that all the people saying they had to rush it out, so it is out before COD. Seriously if you have to rush a game out, so it doesn't enter the chart's at the same time as another game, so you are able to get to number 1 then that is your problem, as clearly the publisher has given the developer to tight of guide lines and schedule to create a game that can compete head to head. You don't see music artist rushing there albums out, wasn't it 50 cent and kanye west that used this tactic to actually sell more albums a few years back.
  • This patch is worse than Dead Island's day one patch. Lmao fail
  • To the people telling others to quit complaining because they had a beta that closed a few weeks back and players should be happy that they're getting a day one patch... what does the beta have to do with the single player progression problems addressed in the patch? Some people don't give a single **** about MP in games, if there were story progression bugs, it's a broken game. Yet another game that is not collectable (even if it was an outstanding game... but yeah right), because years later when servers aren't there, all you're left with is a broken game. Way to go EA. By the way? "beta" is a step in development, you cannot launch a "beta" after the game already went gold, a demo sure, but not a beta.
  • 1) DICE had nothing to do with Warfighter. They made the MP element of MoH '10 but handed the reigns over to Danger Close for WF since they had Battlefield 3 to pay attention to. Anyone knocking DICE is ill-informed. 2) This is ridiculous. Given, all games have a few first-day creases to iron out and the likes of BF3 were no exception but this is just silly. And what for? To try and beat the annual Call of Duty release?
  • LOL. What a joke. Shitty franchise and obviously shitty testers. MOH is garbage
  • Whatever. I least they patched it at all. I will still be playing it.
  • Nothing looks a game breaker in the patch. It looks like "hey we shipped the game and now lets tweak it to be the best on day one we can make it."
  • Well, I must admit I was getting more and more worried the more I saw of this game. So I cancelled my pre order, and just rented it instead. Which was kinda cool as blockbusters left the limited edition, multiplayer and pre-order codes in the box. If its any good ill probably pick it up for £20 the day after blops2 hits!
