Assassin's Creed III Season Pass Confirmed

Assassin's Creed III is to adopt the Season Pass model for its DLC, as spotted on the US PlayStation Blog's PS Store update, which lists a 'Gold Edition' of the game for pre-order including the Season Pass. It currently costs $89.99 for the Gold Edition, while the standalone version is on sale for $59.99, suggesting that the Season Pass will cost around $30.

However, the description listed on the PS Blog stops short of offering any details on the Season Pass, although Kristine Steimer addressed questions in the comments section of the post confirming that the Season Pass will indeed be sold separately, and will offer a discount over purchasing each piece of DLC alone.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed III will be getting long-term DLC support for multiplayer, so it's likely that a fair portion of the Season Pass content will be focused upon that particular aspect of the game. Assassin's Creed III is out on October 30th in North America and October 31st in Europe.

[Thanks, Gared]

  • If they promised single player DLC I would pre order this right now.
  • I bet gamers will be fed up of Season Passes eventually. I am already fed up with since Battlefield 3. Paying another 40 euro for DLC? Seriously?!
  • I have this game preordered, and was really looking forward to it, but just as with Borderlands 2, I am cancelling it. I got burned on both Gears 3 and Saints Row 3, and given Ubisoft's practice of repackaging the game, I can wait 6-9 months for a "Complete edition" at half the cost.I have plenty of games to keep me entertained until then.
  • Surprised to see a season pass for this as if I recall correctly none of the dlc for any of the previous games came anywhere near a total of $30. Wonder if this means a good variety of new modes for MP and content for single player or just maps like that which have been free for previous games.
  • Doesn't matter to me, I don't feel the need to have the DLC the day it's released. I'll wait for the DLCs to be part of a DotW and get them for half-off. Really looking forward to the game though.
  • @3 totally agree, got the BF3 premium season pass and then close quarters turned out to be rubbish and Armoured kill had nothing to shoot at so I just capped objectives with the odd kill here and there, if people can be patient enough then that obviously wouldn't happen but I've learnt my lesson the hard way and waiting an extra 6 months for that up yours people who bought the season pass and game version to come out just seems totally logical.
  • I was going to pre-order this sometime this week because there didn't seem to be much multiplayer at all but now FUCK IT.
  • man these season passes are really becoming a trend these days.. :/
  • No thanks, im good with just the game, and the single player story. Kind of getting a bit bored with all these sesaon passes, and online passes.
  • No thanks, I will wait till go on DoTW.
  • I've played every AC game, bought the collectors edition for every game, got the full 1000 on both the first 2, and since then hovered around the 700-800 mark as I've not once played the multiplayer aspect of the game. Therefore, I will not buy the Season Pass for AC3, as Revelations didn't get any singleplayer DLC that I didn't already have, in fact I have become increasingly appalled by the lack of single-player DLC for the games, and really hope that things change with AC3, I think there is a good chance that it will, as they probably still have more story that they want to tell, it's only when we reach AC3.5 that we'll be placed on a solely multiplayer DLC diet.
  • Since 'they' can't promise or guarantee me anything about the DLC i'm still sticking to my principle 'NO SEASON PASS 4 ME' . For all i know 'they' can make DLC that are totally crap, and i would have paid for that because of the season pass :S (such as: dark forest_dante's inferno, underdome_borderlands 2, weapon/costume dlc street fighter_gears of war etcetcetc) The big game companies have lost there touch which what gaming is about FUN, INNOVATION and being CREATIVE....... More MONEY makes all that go away.
  • I'm going to buy it just to annoy everyone.
  • I dont mind a season pass, I mean lets be honest if the DLC will have achievements most of us will buy it if we want it or not just to max the game. If they released DLC for Hannah Montana, where you get to play with dolls, dance with fluffy pink teddy bears, and do QTE Karaoke with Hannah herself, heck I'd buy it if it had achievements.
  • I never got into the AC multiplayer, so I'll skip this and just buy any SP DLC that comes out (assuming game is good).
  • Why don't they just charge $600 for the game to start with and include a 27" dildo so we can go fuck ourselves.
  • Well, that's what DoTW is for! Hopefully they release an AC III equivalent of the Ottoman edition with DLC codes.
  • Season Pass = Game Rape
  • If its all multiplayer dlc i'll pass like everyone else prob will. Not worth the money
  • I dunno why everyone's getting annoyed at season passes. If you're going to be annoyed at anything be annoyed at DLC in general because season passes are just saving you money in the long run if you plan to get it all. Also as far as online passes go, buy the game new.
  • BF3 + Premium BL2 + SeasonPass BO2 + Elite. Spending 2x the game costs for them these days, wouldn't mind, but it's not exactly all quality DLC we end up getting. Although I have faith in BL2. I think that may be the only one I don't regret getting.
  • I've not paid for a single season pass yet and never will. I'm not in the habit of paying for something I have no idea what it is yet. From what's come out in the past with oth titles, I can safely say, its not been worth it. I got all the LA Noire dlc on half price earlier this year, and saved myself a packet, plus the dlc was stupidly short and not worth full price.
  • If you spend $30 on the Season Pass and you're only getting a discount on the DLC then it better be a big discount and a big chunk of DLC. Otherwise whats the point. Say they only bring out 2 pieces of DLC and you've spent your 30 bucks on the pass. Will they be free, or do you only get a discount? There's no transparency here, you should be told upfront what you're spending your cold hard cash on. We all know for a fact that the "Bonus" DLC in various editions will be included in this, alot of people will already have some of this. You don't walk into a store and hand $30 to the teller in exchange for a bag without knowing whats in it, so why should we do it online?
  • I've nothing against the idea of a "season pass" in theory but I'd wanna know exactly what & how much content I'm paying for given that I'm being asked to pay upfront for it! I do have an issue with the whole "online pass" thing though - can someone tell me what the online pass for Darksiders 2 gives? I picked it up at the weekend (limited edition new in GAME for £25) but I still don't see what the online pass gives me? The limited edition content had its own code and the Van der smash weapon was for having a THQ account so what does the online pass give??
  • I don't play the MP in assassins creed,so no go chumps!
  • @17, because then your mother would steal it... :P
  • @17 sssshhhh...quiet now you'll give them ideas.
  • season pass is the worst thing ever made, not all the DLC is that good and the problem with a game like this is in the past the DLC has been so shit people have complained and it has had to free, all ACB and ACR content was free for multiplayer...and it was shit so why pay for shit? everyone who has so far got CALL OF DUTY ELITE or FORZA SEASONPASS has said its been pretty crap when they actually released anything for DLC anyway.
  • Why are people complaining? It's OPTIONAL! Wait until enough of the DLC comes out, then buy the season pass. The only one I have bought that was disappointing was the Saint's Row 3 SP. Just stop your bitching already.
  • All these season passes are putting me off getting various games new in the first place, I tend to just wait until the retail price drops and get the DLC or pass when it's discounted, rather than spend twice as much as I used to on a single game.
  • Looks like Season Passes are set in stone within the industry. I was a fan of AC with the first two games, but i won't be fooled by Ubisoft anymore.
  • not sure why everyone is getting in such a fuss about season passes, buy it all at once for less and get it on release, just buy it separately like you used to or wait for deal of the week if it ever comes along, or just buy the bits you want? It’s just giving people the option who were going to buy it all when it came out anyway the chance to get it a bit cheaper, I loved the AC multiplayer and really like what they did with it will probably get the season pass as I will want to play the new dlc as it comes out when the community is strong. AC3 is just looking to combine the story length of AC2 and bring in the multiplayer from Brotherhood having now adjusted it and worked out all the kinks and give it weekly challenges & I get a discount on day one dlc with the season pass, what’s not to like, Fucking A!
  • I'm not interested at all unless they add a good amount of single player content. The series is getting stale in my opinion, but this just might be because I played 1-Revelations in the past year alone.
  • yeah most likely lazy MP DLC like Revelations...I pre-ordered and will play the shit out of single player but I wont be buying a season.
  • Cancelled my pre-order just in time I guess.
  • Not bothering with this. A single player game with a multiplayer season pass? Stupid as fuck. Ubisoft is ruining their best franchise, gg.
  • Sorry, but I'm done with the Season Pass concept. It started out well but has been run into the ground by companies turning out garbage content *cough*THQ*cough*.
  • season pass is just another way of saying "hey, we dont finish our games anymore.so give us more money and we will make DLC that either makes no sense or has no replay value whatsoever". getting very close to saying goodbye to video games for good. this is getting rediculous!
  • @1 through 38, I agree with all of you. multiplayer season pass is just stupid, no thank you Unisoft.
  • So multiplayer content, maps? Nah, I don't feel like paying $30 for maps I can't play since not everyone is going to buy them. And of course when 1 person doesn't have them, everyone else can't play them.
  • Could they please stop releasing season passes..it's kind of a plague now!
  • They havent even shown alot of gameplay for the multiplayer yet they expect people to go buy a season pass for multiplayer that will probably be worse than revelations (until I see gameplay that is what I am going to assume). I'm not preordering until I see some multiplayer gameplay.
  • Season Pass for MP? No. No and just to be clear. NO. Single player campaign chapters? HELL YES.
  • Not interested.
  • Ill wait to see what they have to offer, out of all the DLC they have released I've only bought the story related ones. I'll do the same with this game, if I see something story related i'll get it.
  • It seems the gamers have spoken. Problem is... publishers aren't listening.
  • o great ... more season passes
  • i love how almost every comment here is bashing season passes. if you aren't sure, don't buy it. it provides a way to get all of the dlc and save a few bucks. it isn't like you HAVE to get the season pass to pick up the dlc individually(at least not for any games i've seen, anyway). you are still able to pick and choose what dlc you want, and skip on ones that don't seem interesting. i like the fact they provide a way to purchase all the dlc at a discount. i purchased it for gears of war 3 and was very happy with it, getting all the dlc without having to pay anything extra and basically getting one of them for free. i do agree that some dlc is crap and for those i raise the point i just brought up, don't buy the season pass, just pick and choose the dlc you want instead. i also think it's hilarious that some people are going to miss out on what looks to be a great game BECAUSE it has multiplayer. big freaking deal, just don't hit the multiplayer option on the menu. i personally enjoyed the multiplayer as it was a fresh change from everything mostly being only shooters. i can't wait to play this game for the story, and multiplayer is just a bonus.
  • fuck ever paying £30-40 upfront for unknown dlc ever again.....if a game has worthwhile dlc then ill buy a season pass after all dlc has been released
  • Another Season Pass.. I thought I had seen the last of them with Forza 4. Seriously considering canceling my UbiWorkshop Edition preorder now.
  • @2 I'm already sick of it. Gears, Battlefield, CoD, Uncharted, and now this. I'll pass, no pun intended.
  • Long term support for multiplayer is enough for me to scoff at this season pass. Tis a shame this franchise has been ruined by the continued addition of MP.
  • While I realize this is only partially on-topic, I just wanted to say that I think the Borderlands 2 Season Pass will likely be worth the money.
  • I've already been burned with Gears 3 and Saints Row 3 season passes. I've refused to get suckered in with anymore passes. I love AC, but I'm done wasting my money on this nonsense. I'll rent AC3 day one. I will buy the complete edition when it comes out. A big Middle Finger to Season Passes!
  • While I enjoy MP a lot, I hardly see a reason to pay for few extra maps/skins...I'm sure I will be pretty content with what already comes packed with the game to rank all the way to the top as I usually do=)
  • i was considering the season pass, then i realized that it was just going to be multiplayer crap and not single player content. ubisoft can keep their season pass and their dlc.
  • For years game companies have been wanting to raise the price of their games. Now they can do it with Season Pass offers. Instead of the game being $60 we now have to pay $90 for the full game. NICE!
  • Such a waste of money. Screw you Ubisoft.
  • Does anyone else feel like the "season pass" is just a way to soften us up for the day when developers release "complete" games at the full price of $90+
  • Just read that the Season Pass will include at least 3 story DLC (seems like it's one story, broken up into 3 parts though). I'm guessing the other 2 DLC packs included in the pass will be multiplayer stuff.
  • Awesome, definitely not getting this!
  • Mreh.. If the dev's would release content that's actually worthwhile then I would consider getting it. but if its more multiplayer shit, I'll pass.
  • For all you complaining about the season pass being for nothing other than MP then you might want to look into it more. There will be 5 single player DLC's making up a complete second story campaign to play called The Tyranny of King Washington.
  • If the first story DLC gets good reactions I MIGHT consider this. Though I've waited for a sale on literally every Assassin's Creed DLC I've purchased (except maybe Disappearance I don't remember) so I can continue to do the same.
  • @50 preach on my friend...preach on. Finally an intelligent unbitchy response
  • I can't find a confirmation one way or another whether this comes in the Limited Edition or not.
