Spare a thought for those poor people who have to make a sports game every single year, racking their collective brains to think of new and exciting features, modes and other things to entice the fans back for yet another annual update. It can't be easy, although the NHL series often makes it look pretty effortless, improving with each successive iteration.

Surely after so many great installments, EA Canada has to be reaching the ceiling with what it can do with NHL, right? Is NHL 13 the beginning of diminishing returns? Or has the developer managed to miraculously pull it out of the bag to make it the best ice hockey game ever? Lots of fighting, lots of sweaty men, one puck. Is NHL 13 any good?
