Ubisoft Teases New Call of Juarez Game

Looks like Ubisoft is set to announce another Call of Juarez game.

The Facebook page for the Call of Juarez series now features a cover photo showing a mean and moody looking cowboy dude and a date: 09.06.12.

The image would seem to suggest that Ubisoft is planning to reveal another Call of Juarez game and a return to the roots of the series. The last Call of Juarez, subtitled The Cartel, shifted the action of the first two games from the Wild West to modern times and was utterly pants. Here’s hoping that the new game can do better.

Of course, this is all speculation. Maybe Ubisoft will take the series even further into the future and that dude in the picture is a robot! Or maybe not. We’ll find out for sure tomorrow.

Previous Juarez games have been made by Dead Island devs Techland, who are currently working on Dead Island: Riptide.

  • Or maybe, the game comes out tomorrow and they didn't tell anyone because they know that it'll suck
  • More likely.
  • Don't bother
  • Hmmm. The Cartel was awful.
  • Oh God no!
  • I loved the 2nd but the 3rd is terrible
  • the 2nd game was the best for gameplay. I hope they can get back to that root
  • I agree the 3rd one was terrible. Not too sure about this one. third one was glitch city and seemed rushed.
  • Back to the Wild West setting is the way to go, I admit that the 1st and particularly the 3rd games werent very good, but I thought the second game was pretty decent, even the multiplayer was half decent
  • @1 that date will be something like June 9th 1612 or whatever, or since its american September 6th 1612
  • Red Dead was the be all and end all of Western Games. I have satisfied my needs until a sequel on a next gen machine.
  • You know a future Western isn't that bad an idea! Anyone remember the film Westworld?
  • We really needed another one of these.
  • they made so much progress with the 2nd game then pissed it all away by changing from the old west for no reason other than the fact RDR had come out since 2 less than a year later and they some how got it in their head that now, nobody else can make a western game unless its a vast open world sandbox genre...and rather than be held to that standard, they just made a shitty modern FPS game instead which was actually worse than the shitty modern FPS games that we normally get each year. cause its not like COD hadnt already set a bar nobody could come close to by 2009 when CoJ2 came out and they started thinking about the next game they wanted to make.. so i guess to them now it looks like the "western" genre isnt as competitive, so they feel safe to go back to it with out any expected standards? lol
  • Really been wanting a western game lately. Hope this turns out good.
  • Darn Tootin, I love Call of Juarez and Bound in Blood was decent too. Cartel was pants though, the Ray character was nothing like the original Ray so was completely pointless have the 'tenuous' ancestor link.
  • Whyyyy.
  • How is this stupid series still alive? The games were horrible.
  • I honestly hope Techland isn't the developer. They spread themselves too thin by working on Dead Island and CoJ: The Cartel at the same time. They've got a good thing going with Dead Island, so let them focus on that and let a new developer tackle Call of Juarez.
  • Hey I have an idea, let's keep this horrible franchise going instead of starting a new game that might not suck. This almost isn't even newsworthy.
  • Honestly, they really need to move on and spend the money and effort on something else. I played the two western CoJs, and my one line review of why I didn't care for them was: "Red Dead Redemption is just too damned good." So I'm pretty much with #11...
  • Loved the second one, Never got my self to play the third one, But Cartel is still one of those game which I want to play despite knowing that they suck. The list also contains games like Rage, Brink e.t.c ;D
  • Bound in Blood was a solid shooter, one of those hidden gems in my opinion. Heard terrible things about The Cartel, however. I say the 360's library is well short of Western Shooter's, so bring it on!
  • Oh and the date seems like a no-brainer to me. Announcement tomorrow? Curse the lack of an edit function.
  • How is anything about this game a "tease"? Do they think any of us give a shit?
  • I remember when the first game came out, frickin awesome!!! And the second one to, playing coop with a friend had a blast Third one, well not much to say there really. Hoping this will go back to its Roots, gogo kunta kinte
  • Thank you Ubisoft for bring it back to original form's Cowboy Western. Last series were true awful and poor gameplay, story is silly and graphics. First and 2nd series were good so hopeful 4th turn out to be best series of all. I am so pleased with Ubisoft and Techland for their decide bring roots again. :) Don't let down again please Ubisoft and Techland. :)
  • I loved the first two, even more than red dead. RDRs story was a huge letdown for me. The Cartel wasn't good but its not nearly as bad as people say it is...
  • #28 RDR is one of best games ever made and story were great to follows (maybe few side quests of story not great but rest of main storyline and some quests are great). RDR, Mass Effect 2 and Mario Galaxy 2 is best games in 2010 so far. :D
  • Call of Juarez: The Cartel was so bad that Extra Credits did a video solely discussing technical examples as to why the game was a failure. I don't think I can accurately express how much I think this series should just die. In case anyone missed that webisode you may find it by Googling "extra credits call of juarez the cartel" but there may be minor spoilers if you haven't played the game. I decided not to link it because that's usually frowned upon.
  • Can one of my UK compatriots explain "utterly pants" to me? I get that the game was trash, but where does the saying come from?
  • @12 Yes. Yes I have. OT Cartel was garbage. Unfortunately it was the first CoJ game I played and jaded my opinion of the others. When I heard about the new Prey 2 game and saw it I immediately thought of how the CoJ games shifted
  • I'm hoping it's more like CoJ: BiB with the open world parts that it had in some levels. Kinda maybe like a western Far Cry.
  • The games really going to struggle with the inevitable RDR comparisons. They'll have to do something special with it to set it apart if they want it to sell decently. @31 We call underwear 'pants' over here. So something is 'pants' if it's a load of old arse, basically.
  • Hopefully they go back to what the 2nd game was like, really enjoyed the MP on BiB. To those saying Red Dead is the best and only western game needed, and I agree RDR is a great game that I really enjoyed. There is more than enough room for another good western series. I'd rather have them make another western FPS, than another modern FPS or anything else.
  • Why do the shit games keep getting made.
  • @22...Brink and Rage got bad press but they are pretty good games....The Cartel...well lust just say that if it wasn't for the invincable glitch I would of never played that game on hard.
  • I loved all three Call of Juarez games (Yes, even the Cartel), and Red Dead Redemption was good, although it tried too hard to have its music sound like Ennio Morricone. I will admit, there were some music pieces that I liked, I just wished you could do more after finishing the campaign, and more interactivity within the game's world itself. Call of Juarez' music was better IMHO. I honestly don't care if is is Old West or Neo-Western again, so long as it has a good story and good music. Just remember, there ain't no law out here, except the one you make!
  • Just stop...
  • After that abomination that was The Cartel, they better fucking be going back to the Wild West.
  • Call of Juarez: The Gunslinger - confirmed!
  • Yeah, Gunslinger it is. They're going the downloadable route with it rather than retail.
  • Last one was fucking hilarious. Me and a mate played co-op and just found great amusement in what glitch was gonna happen next!
  • @34 - Thanks! I was trying to make sense of that one for awhile!
