Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Latest Splinter Cell: Blacklist Playthrough Sees Sam Going 'Ghost'

If you were wondering how the stealthy approach will work in Splinter Cell: Blacklist, wonder no more, as Ubisoft has released a new walkthrough video showing an alternate method to completing the demo showcased at E3 in a much quieter, non-confrontational way.

Featuring commentary from Splinter Cell Community Developer, Zack, the so-called 'Ghost' playthrough shows how Sam Fisher can use his surroundings, like the cliff edge in the enemy encampment, to evade guards and avoid raising the alarm. The video also has picture-in-picture showing how the E3 demo was originally completed, with Sam using his 'Killing in Motion' skills to dispatch all the guards with brutal, ruthless efficiency.

Going almost non-lethal, we see that in the Ghost playthrough, there's only one kill and one body to hide. Sam can also decide against calling in the airstrike seen in the E3 demo, leaving Grimsdottir to "sweat it out". Check out the trailer for a work in progress, pre-alpha look at Splinter Cell: Blacklist's stealth. The game is out in March 2013.

[Thanks, niconline]

I prefered the other video with all the killing. Nice to have choice though.

Hopefully it won't force you to start killing everybody in sight, like Conviction did

Awesome awesome awesome. I hope they give us an alt ending or achievement or something for playing the way through ghosted. People complained (and to an extent, I kind of agree) that there was no point in being sneaky in Conviction. Kinda like Hitman games before Blood Money, you could just blast your way through a level without any consequence.

I wanna see some sort of reward for playing like this.

If Ubi played Deus Ex Human Revolution we might just see achievements for completing the game without setting off an alarm and without killing anyone (except bosses). Should be a walk in the park with Sam, Adam Jensen didn't quite have the same finesse!

Loved the video, it's what Conviction really missed with even takedowns being kills where they needn't be. Now to get back to the good old days of the original, Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory, with the added optional choice of being a gun-toting maniac like in Conviction. Just what the series needed: a solid mix of old and new approaches.

Thank you Ubi! Now maybe everyone can stop bitching about how this game won't have any stealth.
Looked awesome before anyway, looks even better now :D Can't wait!

I always thought this looked good, but can someone explain the conviction thing? I played that like a pure stealth game. It was a lot of fun that way. Just because you CAN run and gun doesn't mean the game is forcing you to. Or am I seeing this wrong?

@11 what you're saying is, you were able to complete a level of Conviction without shooing anybody?

Love how they tricked everyone by cutting out the part where you HAVE to break stealth and kill people.... What a joke. Buy your bad game and enjoy it everyone, UBisoft should have just made a new character if they changed direction this much instead of ruining the old one by injecting him with Ezio's DNA and ripping him from his roots.

looks very good. the cover system looks sweet and now I'm just waiting to see the non-lethal animations they add in later on. the whole stealth run of this demo was needed to show fans that the SC roots are still there.

@13 That part is vital to the story, you have to confront your target. Obviously you can't do that with out getting rid of the guards who are around him. They didn't trick anybody as this is obvious. If it is a bad game, even though you haven't played the full product for yourself, stay away from the articles about it.

@8 - Hitman ALWAYS had a way to go through undetected, without running & gunning. There were no 'achievements' except to get a rating of 'Silent Assassin' for each level. Blood Money just continued this theme but with achievements.

Blood Money on Silent Assassin or whatever the hardest difficulty was called was difficult to the point of making running and gunning a terrible idea.

It would also ruin your end-mission rating and the income received for weapon upgrades.

Looks a bit early, but just adding the option of hiding bodies to Conviction's gameplay is, for me, pretty much perfection. My idea of stealth runs is not being seen while I pick off enemies one by one, Batman style. I don't think this will sway the no-kill stealthers, it looks like some killing will be required, but *I'm* happy!

Looks awesome! I'll miss Ironside, but after seeing the ghost preview and the fact that you can do nonlethal takedowns again, I have faith in this game! :)

Looks kinda cool, but I don't see why they just didn't make a new character, spin the series off within the same "Tom Clancy world," and slapped a new name on it. Kept all the changes they wanted without any blowback. Probably would have been wiser and lead to more sales, because even now I definitely see people voicing that they will NOT be buying this game in various places across the internet.

And for Hitman, yeah, you could run & gun. But the second you did it, you basically broke the game. Pop a shot off and it was just a swarm of enemies flooding through a doorway until they were all dead or they put you down. More like a minigame than an actual game. You can open up the map view and just kinda laugh at it all. The fact they even give you a variety of firearms to use is almost like them mocking the player.
