Ryse Could "Potentially" Be a Next-Generation Launch Title [Updated]

The whereabouts of Ryse has been a hotly contested subject for some time now, with Phil Spencer confirming it’s still in existence at E3, before Cervat Yerli confirmed its development is going well at Gamescom 2012.

X360A has learned from a source close to Crytek that indeed, the rumours about Ryse being a next-generation Kinect title are indeed true, with our contact noting that it’s to make use of the improved version of Kinect that will ship with Microsoft's next-gen console. Yes, they said it would be a “launch title.”

Ryse, according to our source, has been “reworked” numerous times since its initial announcement and Crytek has apparently had a few “issues” with the game and Kinect along the way.

Our source also tells us that Kinect 2 “might not be what we quite expect” and that Microsoft is keen to move away from it being a separate device to it being more a part of the console itself.

Does that mean we can expect it to be integrated into the console? Our source wouldn’t comment, but hinted that could be the case. All you need to know though is that Ryse is alive and "potentially" a next-gen console launch title, according to our source.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment, but we don’t expect anything other than the usual “we don’t comment on speculation or rumour” line.

[Update:] As expected, Microsoft have responded saying, "we don't comment on rumour or speculation."

Always thought the trailer looked sweet, and maybe enough to buy a Kinect.

AS long as I can play it with my controller, I'll be good.

Now, how about some actual details and/or media for the game MS? It's been a while ...

All i want is for it to be playable with a controller, I do enough standing and moving around at work, i don't want to do more just to play a game.

i dont see the need for a new kinect already. MS hasnt used this one to its full potenial yet. plus, for those of us who bought one, we should be getting free updates via firmware as promissed. this version of kinect is a remotless wii with better graphics. its not whst i thought it would be. so why whould i waste my money on anouther one. i have about 30 kinect games on disc. i supported it, now MS wants me to buy a new one? i dont think so!

as for the new system. i dont trust MS. first they still need to fix the rod issue in the 360. as far as a new system goes. i'll wait for a stream console to come out. thats the future if you ask me. have everything stored on a cloud system. no lasers, no HDs, extra. just hookup to tv & play. also MS should consider going with VR tech. have a visor with a headset on it. this way you can look around and move in place. thus space wouldnt be an issue. if i was MS i would ditch kinect & go VR. have a visor & headset. i predict the next systems will cost around 4,000.00cnd. reason is because we need more innovation in how we play games. tablets will cost alot. thats where the industry is heading now.

>Person in trailer kicks unusually hard to attack

Oh, I don't see anything that could potentially go horribly wrong with this.

I'm not interested in Kinect at all gaming wise, I hope they have a version of the console that doesn't force Kinect on to gamers who don't want it.

Whatever the case, I sure hope there will non Kinect version of next gen xbox, because I wouldn't want to pay extra for something I may or may not use in the future...
