Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Is Skyrim’s Next DLC Called Hearthfire?
Written Tuesday, August 21, 2012 By Lee Bradley
View author's profile

Bethesda parent company Zenimax has trademarked something called “Hearthfire,” prompting speculation that the listing relates to Skyrim’s next add-on.

Trademarked back in March, Hearthfire is described as "Computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the internet and wireless devices."

Bethesda themselves do not comment on trademark filings, so there’s no official conformation, but the term does relate to The Elder Scrolls series. It’s the name of the ninth month in Tamriel, as well as a series of books in the 2920 series.

In addition to this, the third day of that month is something called Tales and Tallows, which is an unofficial holiday celebrating necromancy. Could Hearthfire relate to zombies?

We’ll have to wait and see. Just bear in mind that the trademark listing could pertain to the upcoming MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online. It may also relate to nothing of interest at all. Time will tell.

In the meantime, however, let’s speculate. How would you feel about an undead expansion for Skyrim?

After the mediocore and overpriced Dawnguard, I'll wait for the GOTY.

Thumbs down if you agree!

Just got my 1250 on Skyrim, about to 1000 Oblivion, finding a copy of Shivering Isles is gunna be tough though. Really excited to get back into Skyrim. Still curious if we'll see Cyrodil in Skyrim, I hope so.

By Zombies do they mean the Draugr and Deathlords? If so, they appear far too much in the main game to deserve their own expansion pack. Still need to get back to Skyrim and 1250 it.

I'm hoping for some good old fashioned Oblivion gates. I know it is unlikely but Oblivion in HD would be flipping awesome!

Apparently there was a marketplace glitch where for a short time, some future content was showing up (but not buyable).

For what it's worth, there were other pictures showing likely DLC for Resident Evil 6, Darksiders 2, Fall of Cybertron, and that new Naughty Bear game.

Potential Spoilers - Oh and I mean if we'll be travelling to Cyrodiil in the Skyrim game, not Cyrodiil magically entering the region of Skyrim. I just don't see why it would be part of the map if it wasn't going to be related somehow. Or maybe the idea was scrapped? It could have been a part of the Dawnguard Moth Priest quest, but to make it easier they just made one visit Skyrim? and by copy of Shivering Isles I mean GOTY copy, not really up to buying like 2400 MSP for it.

In relation to the necromancy idea I would like it, I feel necromancy could be a lot better. I'd much prefer to see some new enemies though, Draugr are a bit dull after you complete every quest and what not. What I felt Dawnguard missed was the variation Shivering Isles had, a wealth of new enemies and environments. Granted Dawnguard has a beautiful landscape midway through, the glacial crevice was a masterpiece. I remember swimming under a rock to find a hidden path and it was just breathtakingly gorgeous.

I thought Dawnguard was pretty mediocre, but in all honesty, I know I'll buy this... if it an expansion rather than nothing/mmo-related stuff.

Have my 1250 on this. And Oblivion. And max on Fallout 3 and New Vegas... I do love this type of game.

sometimes i think this is sorta cheating, i mean, looking up the copyrights and trademarks game companies have before they are even made public. but i guess in this day and age, anything is fair game when the internet gives you access to everything.

@13

Necromancy (which includes zombies, obviously) has been part of TES lore. Zombies appeared in Arena back in 1994 long before this whole trend was big. As a fan of the series, I think necromancy hasn't really been able to be explored by the player very much and is due for some gameplay implementations.

Anyone else besides me wanting to finally be able to change their mage into a Lich? Move over, Mannimarco. A new King of Worms has risen and he is Dovahkiin.

That would be cool, as long as it adds new location + weapons and can also fight the zombies in locations already in Skyrim (like Riverwood, imagine tons of zombies pouring through The Riverwood Trader!).

I liked dawnguard, but i seriously disliked how either way you went in the story, it was nearly the same outcome, THAT is what dissapointed me in dawnguard

---SPOILER-----
either you side with the vampires or not, you still kill the head vampire, and the same things are said in the storyline.

Am I the only one who expected the sun to ACTUALLY blacken out if you went the vampire route, not a bow either way you choose...

It's the inevitable zombie DLC. It seems every game these days has to be either about zombies or have a DLC centered around them. You people won't be happy if the world ends any other way.

@34. I think I posted something about this in forums a while back. Or at least I know I read it. Did post something relating to a potential dlc at the time.

I will not be getting this right away. Will see what its about first. Dawnguard was a waste of money for me. I only played it for a couple of days until I completed it and never touched it since. See what the future holds for Skyrim dlc.

Does anyone else find it odd that, even though Cyrodil and Morrowind have already been scripted into the game, they added locations that are in nothingness? I mean snow veil sanctum is epic and all that but why not visit place actually on land not existing in (pardon this) oblivion? Hopefully this will take place in cyrodil morrowind or some other province.

Personally they need to fix the bugs in the main game before working on more DLC. Specially when the bugs interfere in achievement gains. Companion quest line specifically for me.
