Dead Space 3 Vid Lifts the Lid on Weapon Crafting
Written Thursday, August 16, 2012 By Lee Bradley
View author's profile

In Dead Space 3 you will be able to craft, modify and share weapons via workbenches and a whole load of customisations. It’s a pretty cool feature.

In the vid below you’ll see Dead Space 3’s UI lead talking you through the feature and explaining how it works and how it has evolved from ideas in the earlier games. Looks like it’s a bit like Gunsmith, but more creative.

EA has also outlined a way for fans to get their own weapon creations and their likeness in the game. Head over to the official site to learn more about how to enter.

Dead Space 3 is out on February 5th in the US and February 8th in Europe.

Not really pumped about the co-op, but the new weapon building is pretty bad ass.

I don't understand the reason to hate on this so much. It just seems to be all I see any time something comes out about what is looking to be a pretty cool game. Jesus people can we at least wait till it comes out and try it. What is it with the gaming community to immediately hate on something? Give it a rest.

I'm thoroughly convinced that DS 3 will be a good game...maybe not a GREAT game...but it will be a good one. I thought DS 2 was a vast improvement over the first game, which is actually saying alot in my opinion. If Visceral nothing more than stay at that same level, then I will be happy. I am concerned about co-op ruining it,...but if I'm not forced to play this game with another player then I'm ok with it. I'm of the mindset that EVERY...SINGLE...GAME...THAT...RELEASES...does not need to have a multiplayer component.

I digress...

Co op and Deadspace do NOT belong together. The whole co op shit has turned me off to this game.

You don't HAVE to play co-op.

You know that right?

@8 It's completely optional. What's the problem? Personally, I would ONLY buy the game if it was coop. It's the same reason I haven't even played Dead Space 1 or 2. I think coop always makes the game better. And if it's completely optional, then what's with the hate? If you play it solo, it would be exactly the same as before.

Weapon Crafting seems pretty cool. Too bad they had to butcher the series to add it.

#4 being a retard. EA MADE Dead Space.

Come on everybody! Let's go jump on the "hate EA bandwagon!" After that we can go jump on MOAR bandwagons like My Little Pony, Slender, and Happy Wheels!!!!!,!;$;$;$;$:9;?;&!

Game will probably be amazing, just like the other two, but I feel like it's become overly complicated just for the sake of being complicated. And that's for all games. Darksiders 2 recently, game is great but not as good as the first one. All the RPG stuff they threw in bogs it down. Halo 4, to me, looks like they're just trying to throw all this customization and stuff in when in fact it's Halo's simplicity that has made it great for all these years. Developers need to realize sometimes less is more.

@1

Way, WAY too scary for me to even finish watching. I really wish EA would make this a "T" or even "E" rated game so all the kids and people scared of scary games can play it. And add four player campaign co-op.

@15 Wouldn't it be more accurate to say EA published the game? Visceral is the developer and while they are owned by EA, Visceral is still the one making the game.

Got to agree with #16

Weapon customization is a gimmick just like it was in GRFS and gets old quick. I am ok with co-op as long as there are no co-op achievements or parts of they game where you need another person. I wish they concentrated more on the campaign & DLC rather than this weapon stuff and co-op. Looking forward to this game.

@18- Yeah, it's going to be scary and if you scare easily (like myself) you're going to be in for a real horror! Best thing to do is find a good co-op partner and sink your teeth into it! Holla if you want me to play, I'm really looking forward to this.. And the weapon crafting is just a bonus. This game needs more love, less hate. Why does everybody gotta be so negative about everything anyway. Being positive about something is actually a much better feeling. Try it.

Dammit EA, just tell us if they're doing Hard To The core again!

Cautiously optimistic about the new direction. Whilst DS2 was incredible, after playing it through so many times and doing Hard To The Core when I got around to playing the Severed DLC I wasn't shocked by a single thing that happened and knew every trick the game had to offer by that point. Hopefully these new gameplay elements help open up the action possibilities even further.

Have they announced (competitive) multiplayer for this yet? This seems like a very multiplayer centric mechanic

This is probably one of the first ideas that I quite like the sound of! It kind of reminds me of the U-Invent from Bioshock as I assume that as you progress through the game you will need to collect items in order to get the pieces necessary to build the weapons. It will be interesting to see the idea implimented, and also to see whether the items you need to find will be random or in the same place every time.

As I've said previously, I think this will be a very good action game, though I have my doubts as to how close it will remain to the true Dead Space experience. With all the changes that have bee made, and with the anger felt by a lot of fans of the franchise, I just hope that the mistake of adding in co-op achievements to the game isn't also made. It's been said time and again that co-op is optional, for it to truly remain that way, people must not feel thy have to play the game in co-op just to get all the achievements. They didn't add multi-player achievements in DS2, so hopefully they won't add co-op achievements in DS3.

This could be a fun little gimmic for a bit, but, nothing near pushig me towards buying it brand new, I'm still going to wait for this to be cheaper.

I'm not a fan of making it co-op, it's a big risk at breaking the tension, hopefully, playing co-op would alter how things playout, aka, boss fights having more intricate things to them, more enemies with a partner ect.
If putting in co-op at least means that it'll always throw more at you, then thats fair enough to make it intresting at least.
I hope they don't add co-op achievements, because i would like to get the full gs from this game without depending on someone else.

@24... wow... get a life please... you call people for complaining about it... then act like a child :/

@31 haha who gives a redwood about game tension when you have an option everybody loves co-op and you dont have to play it and im acting like a child? i didnt know kids cursed. @26 im joking...@25 the same.
last but not least #29 i know about EA redwood but from the start of DS2 you can see the signifigant and drastic changes that helped the game i think a lot, first of all armor looks way nicer in DS2, Multiplayer was fun with friends, achievements were and are more diverse in skill and overall fun, now imagin in co-op in DS3 all the new things you can do... trading weapons for example that doesn't sound fun? Im sorry but if you cant flow with the game train you can get off. Preferably the people in this comment. Everyones intitled to there own opinion its just this has been so hugly debated on that it doesnt even matter if you have mutiple options for your preference, what can i say the games gotten better and this risk factor there taking isnt even really registering to me because it doesnt even exist. Ask yourself how can it make the game worse if its keeping the first ones preference still alive.
