Remember Me Was a PlayStation 3 Exclusive

Dontnod has revealed the origins of its debut title, Remember Me.

One of the highlights of this year’s Gamescom, Remember Me started life as Adrift, a PlayStation 3 exclusive, but Sony decided to dump the project.

“They stopped a number of games last year at Sony and we took back the IP rights and were able to continue to develop it thanks to the support of the investors,”  said Dontnod co-founder Oskar Guilbert.

“We were then able to sign the game to a publisher who’s portfolio is a better fit for the game.”

That publisher was Capcom, under whose guidance the project has evolved. “This project is not exactly the same,” said Guilbert. “It is an evolution. The concept of what we had with Sony was different.”

“Sony wanted to focus on a different type of game and we don’t really fit with that. But we’re in a very good relationship with them.”

You can watch the debut trailer for Remember Me here.

  • They should "dump" The last of us....looks pretty cool!
  • I'd love for it to sell really well and Sony to regret dropping it.
  • @1 I don't think they will let go of "The last of us" anytime soon
  • I love my 360 but man do PS3 fans get some great exclusives, The Last Of Us looks like it will be game of the year.
  • @1 'The Last of Us' is being developed by Naughty Dog, who are owned by Sony, so no chance of that unfortunately.
  • Doesn't surprise me at all - all the gameplay shown has been PS3, and the PS3 always has better exclusives (or ex. exclusives, I guess!). Will for sure be getting this day one on the PS3. No point playing it on my 360 when that version is clearly not gonna be as good.
  • I'm sorry, just no interested as long as Capcom has anything to do with it. That is how much I despise the company. Passed on Dragons Dogma, DMC HD Collection and I will skip RE6, LP3 and this game as well. It's pretty much impossible for them to fix their reputation.
  • @#7 so you miss out on excellent fun games just because you "despise" a company?? Dont make sense to me. Sure i dont agree with alot of things some companies do, but i still love to play games, all types, and if that company puts out a top notch game, i will play it, no matter what name is on the box or in the background. PeaCe
  • Looks promising.
  • @2 - just because it no longer and exclusive im goign to buy it for 360 :P the game will prbably sell better there to be honest. @7 - Campcom over years got greedy but passing on dragon dogma was a mistake i find that game better than skyrim because skyrim had all the hype but for me gameplay was poor were as dragon dogma didnt have no hype and even capcom didnt think it would sell as well as it has. If you like RPGs dragons dogma is a game to play
  • Oh well, our gain. I don't like Capcom, but this game looks like it could be good.
  • I just watch the trailer kidna reminds me of batman (combat) assasins creed(killing people in unsual ways and claiming about) An even a bit of it remidns me of watch dogs This could be a mistake for Sony lettting this go 1 day buy for me so far
  • Saw the 7min gameplay vid the other day, and I was pretty much sold on the game. I think this is a bad move on Sony's part. Good for us now that it's not a PS3 exclusive.
  • #7 You skipped Dragon's Dogma? Dude I know Capcom is the Publisher but don't miss out on such an amazing game. Just get it 2nd hand when it's cheap :)
  • Weird of how #5 got thumbed down for telling the truth.
  • Glad this isnt PS3 exclusive, its looks pretty good so far. Cross between Assassins Creed and Deus Ex!
  • @7, Do you play EA games?
  • Still going to get it for my PS3. Watch Dogs for my 360. Damn just when I thought I was done with Capcom they pull this. Well played.
  • @15 Welcome to the internet, where fanboys and grammar nazis rule the world
  • @13 I don't they made a bad decision, more one that benefited everyone. If you look at the original art and leaked video for Adrift, it was quite different. So Mr.Guilbert saying it's evolved through this process isn't just for a soundbite. I'd say Sony benefited from not sinking anymore money into that original concept. Dontnod benefited as they managed to get back their IP and refine the concept with Capcom and investors into what we're looking at today. That may not have happened if it had stayed exclusive. Hopefully if the game lives up to the potential shown in the demo there will be one more group we can and to that benefit column. That group being us the players.
  • Too much hate towards Capcom. They make some of the best games and pick up and publish other great games too. They are aware of the DLC on disk hate and are trying to make up for it. Least you, as gamers could do, is give them that chance to try to make it better. I will always stand by Capcom.
  • @22 dont talk to your mother like that.
  • Apparently, Thugnificent has decided to make an appearance in this comments section. As for the game, go figure that this was a PS3 exclusive. If only Microsoft were more focused on games like this rather than Kinect and SmartGlass.
  • @22 once your post gets removed... you have my permission to die!
  • This game looks exactly like Deus Ex:Human Revolution but take out adam and put in the Girl from final fantasy of even WET the game.
  • @7 You're only screwing yourself by not getting Dragon's Dogma, bro. I, like you, had lost significant faith in Capcom after they decided 'not' to bring Monster Hunter Frontier to the US, but Dragon's Dogma reignited my faith in them. A virtually unknown IP, with a very small development team, hardly any outside financial backing, developing for a primarily Japanese market, blew me away with Dragon's Dogma. One of the best RPGs I've ever played....I can't explain why, exactly, but it is. Everything from the difficulty of the first playthrough, the deep, yet simple custimzation and inventory systems, the awesome "rent-a-pawn" system and the second-to-none combat system just blew me away. It's sad that Mass Effect 3 will likely beat Dragon's Dogma for RPG of the Year, mainly because, imo, Mass Effect 3 was more shooter than RPG, but in a year of quite literally nothing else aside from cheesy 3DS adaptations, Dragon's Dogma shines brightly as the premiere RPG of the year for this old boy. I can't gloat enough about the game. Very rarely does a game enthrall me like DD did anymore, as at my old age, I've just about seen and done it all in video games.
  • @19 I'm surprised you haven't been thumbed down for that, so congratulations!
  • @22 childish dumbass On-topic this game looks like the type of game that looks like it will be good & when it releases it will be hittin the bargin bin in a month....I really can't remember the last new ip I've played that was any good
  • No, #22. U.
  • What does PlayStation have to do with remembering your login details? ROTFL!!!
  • @1 That's why there are people who own both a PS3 and a 360, it's nice when you enjoy the best of both worlds.
  • Glad Sony decided to drop this, as it looks great, and I really prefer playing on the 360. Plus, Sony has enough great exclusives as it is, they don't need any more.
  • i love how her ass is all over the cover of the game
  • Not too hyped for this after seeing the gameplay vids, platforming seems like it'll be linear ala Prince Of Persia and the Forlan memory remix scene seems like something you'll be forced to replay until you get it right with exciting point and click gameplay. Hopefully this isn't all they have up their sleeve.
  • @6 LMFAO, you own a ps3? LMFAO. sad, very sad.
  • Halo 4
  • @36 Why is owning a PS3 sad? Enjoying the best of both worlds isn't sad, declaring your loyalty to a console or company is sad.
  • @#7 I agree with you. Lol. However the only capcom game which I might buy now is the new DMC. I would like to play that. But other than that, whatever...
  • Watched both the vids myself and I thought that they must have seen a winning formula (on paper, at least). IMO it moved/explored like Tomb Raider; reach and deal with targets like Assassins Creed; looks like Deus EX and the combat plays like Batman. I do need to see more combat vids to be sure though. I don't mind saying there are some REALLY high hopes for this.
  • Looks like Assassins Creed and Mirrors Edge. I might consider picking this up. :)
  • @6 Why even come to this website if you're clearly a PS3 fanboy. @22 It's people like you that make this world an intolerable place to live, we would all be better of if everyone like you would just hang themselves.
  • @22 lol
  • Why would someone dump HER? I know I wouldn't.
