Report: Thief 4 Slips to Next-Generation Consoles
Written Wednesday, August 08, 2012 By Lee Bradley

Thief 4 will now launch as an Xbox 720 (or whatever it'll be called) title, following a protracted spell in development for the current generation of consoles.

That’s according to the latest reports, which suggest that the game will hit towards the end of next year alongside next-gen hardware.

Thief 4 was announced in May 2009, but it has been as illusive as its sneaky protagonist ever since. Dribs and drabs of information has dripped through, but nothing official.

Eidos Montreal are in charge of development. The super-studio currently has separate teams working on Deus Ex and Thief, plus a playtest team and a quality assurance team.

But launch titles in general are really poor, as devs are still getting to grips with the new hardware, 360 has only just reached its peak IMO.

If you have working on this for three years on current gen, why start over?

I'm sure they'll release it for both 360 and Project Durango.

I'm starting to get the feeling the 360 will head the way of the original Xbox

'Here's the new 720(Or whatever) new 360 games are non existent'

"Eidos Montreal are in charge of development. The super-studio currently has separate teams working on Deus Ex and Thief, plus a playtest team and a quality assurance team."

Did I miss something or does this confirm that (part of) Eidos is currently working on a new Deus Ex? (or remake?) I can't seem to find anything about this on this on the source article.

They have said they will still make games for the 360 for a couple of yrs as they still would make a ton of money from it as more ppl own the 360 than the previous xbox.
Plus haven't they just given a big clue to when the next xbox is out, next year prob holiday 2013.
This would effect GTAV if releasing in Spring as no doubt they will have huge DLC for it which prob come out when people are buying the nextgen stuff.

@4 That won't happen with the 360. There is too big of an install base for developers, publishers, and Microsoft to pass up, they've sold 60+ million 360's. I think the 360 will be a lot like the PS2 and be supported for at least 5+ years after the next Xbox releases.

@2.. Xbox is piece of trash.. Its peak was reached years ago.. and developers have been having to sacrifice things to add other things.. everyone is tired of being limited by the damn thing..

@2 You nailed it. Launch titles have been some of the worst games ever for over a decade now, I wonder at one point game companies forgot they should be some of the best.

This can only make the game better if the rumours of the next Xbox being packed with shiny new hardware are true. Thief was a great game when it first came out.

#14: Wait, what? It wouldn't be a new console if it didn't have different hardware.

I swear I've seen this trailer before. It looks good, I'll definitely pick it up, I've been casually playing through the 3rd game, but there are a decent amount of bugs that make it hard to finish. I'm not a fan of the blackjack either, I feel like if they make it an animation rather than just swing and the person falls down a second later, it would solve the problem of what appears to be invincible enemies.

I'm certainly not ready for a new console yet let alone Xmas time next year.

I'm not buying a new console just to play this game, sticking with my old faithful 360 :)

Not my kind of game, but it's good to know that there'll be a good selection of games for the next Xbox.

T1 & T2 will always be my favourite 1st person stealth games. Glad they didn't drop the project. I don't mind the game coming out late, but I hope they can polis the game back to its ancestors' glory and special, unique gameplay.

@7 but out of those sales figures, how many are due to people replaceing their console due to the early model faults (On my third one)

Seem to keep hearing 'it will be next gen' still gutted at how the old Xbox sudenly had nothing.

Would love to see Thief return, many happy PC Hours wasted on the originals

I remember when "Burnout Revenge" was released for the original Xbox (2005), then the Xbox 360 was released in November 2005, then Burnout Revenge for the 360 was released in 2006. Maybe they'll release Thief 4 on both consoles - which would mean TWICE the achievements (maybe)! :-D

I just wish Eidos would remaster/re-release the Thief trilogy in "Games on Demand" for the 360. It'd be nice to play the [first two] games on a console, with improved graphics for all three (and achievements, of course)!

As for "launch titles sucking..." yeah, Halo: Combat Evolved was terrible - that game will never sell! :-p I think "Oblivion" was also considered a "launch title" for the 360 (it was delayed, though). Yeah... that game will never become "Game of the Year," nor will it ever spawn a follow-up. Tourist!!
