Call of Duty: World at War Details Released

Call of Duty: World at War Details Released
Written Monday, June 23, 2008 by Dan Webb

I'm sure everyone has checked out the new Call of Duty: World at War video out by now and we all have the right to reserve our own judgements, granted, mine is a little bit negative than the rest, but it's still valid. If you haven't seen the trailer... What are you doing... Go check it now and come back.

Back? Good, I can resume. Following the weekend's trailer, Activision have released some hard facts to follow it up so everyone can stop trying to guess, who, what, when, where, why.

As we already know, Treyarch will be developing the title and will be using the Call of Duty 4 engine. But what else do we know now? Well...

  • Call of Duty: World at War will take players deep into the South Pacific and European theaters this fall for Call of Duty: World at War™, a gritty fight that will pit players against enemies that know no surrender and show no mercy.
  • Call of Duty: World at War throws out the rulebook of war to transform WWII combat through a new enemy, new tactics and an uncensored experience of the climatic battles that gripped a generation.
  • As U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers, players will employ new features like cooperative gameplay, and weapons such as the flamethrower in the most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date.
In the press release, Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch is quoted as saying “With Call of Duty: World at War, we’re re-defining what it means to play a WWII game”. Furthermore he goes on to say “We’re excited to give players a host of new enemies that employ entirely new tactics, as well as new, groundbreaking tools – like co-op and the flamethrower – to succeed in the epic fight.”

"Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-operative play, bringing fresh meaning to the “No One Fights Alone” mantra with up to four-players online for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, or two-player local split-screen on consoles. Nintendo Wii will also support a unique co-op mode for two players. For the first time ever players will experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The co-op campaign allows players to rank up and unlock perks in competitive multiplayer by completing challenges and earning experience points, adding continuous re-playability and team-based gameplay. Whether playing competitively or cooperatively – if players are online with Call of Duty: World at War – they will always gain experience points. Based on a player’s experience rank and rank of the player’s friends, Call of Duty: World at War will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge."

i hope theres no online achievements i think call of duty 4 was better without them it made it more fun whereas call of duty 3 was impossible to get all ranked achievements.its gonna be good though

So basically the recipe is
- a bag of CoD4
- a cup of Rainbow Six Vegas
- add a hint of flamethrower

mix and serve

Just by looking at the trailer you can tell it will be shit, the character movement animations look terible and really unrealistic (unlike 4). The only changes from 3 are a new setting which is pointless given the gameplay will be identical; coop, again exactly the same a SP just with people, no change in gameplay; and the addition of one new weapon (OOOO I cant wait...NOT!) BURN 5 BRING ON 6!!!!!

well i loved cod 2 and that was world war 2 what was wrong with cod 3 was the way everything felt as a player where as infinity ward always make there games feel so solid and as such you feel more involved in the game any one thats played previeus titles knows what i mean

please treyarch dont mess this up it could be great

p.s if you do make it a good game you will ave to put a demo out n more people will open up to it

trust me im a gamer..................

Dood pined5551 The Graphics Look Awsome And I Would Know Your Just Trying To Act Cool By Bashing On This Game Its Going To Be As Good As COD4 Im Sure They Would Not Let This Game Ruin This Series.

@24

I Dont Know Why Typing Everything With A Capital Is Needed?

But to get back to the actual text of your message:

the graphics dont look awsome,
why would 'bashing' a game make someone cool,
its unlikely to be as good as 4 but lets give it chance,
I would hope they wouldn't let the game ruin the series but only time will tell.

Dznyboy. You don't have to use a capital letter for every god damn word. You just gave me a fucking epileptic fit. AND I DONT EVEN HAVE EPILEPSY.

And yeah I'm really not too sure about COD5

Ok name one game that has better graphics.

Monday, June 23, 2008 @ 06:02:47 PM

Im not saying that they are bad graphics. They just dont seem 'awsome' to me. To get that kinda praise you would want something groundbreaking. The graphics in the trailer (and its only a trailer mind) look barely a step up on 4. In fact I like the look of Gears 1 better (nevermind Gears 2, which will most likely be competing with COD5 for sales).

I am disappointed by the campaign rank up system. It will turn out just like Rainbow Six Vegas 2, with people glitching or excessively playing in campaign mode in order to rank up online. Other than that, the details sounds pretty good, and I hope it is as intense, dramatic, and scary as they say it is.

If cod 4 had so much success in modern warfare, why would they switch back? Oh well, I think it will still be a fun game.

I have a feeling people didn't like COD3 because they were told it wasn't good. This game is going to be good, just like COD3 was good. I emphasize GOOD

No, it's not going to be COD4, but shut up about it already. Do you think peoples whining is going to change anything? No.

I'm not calling out anyone in particular here, i'm just making a point

#42 I think the same. WWII is better than MW.

I can't wait for this game. Just because treyarch made it doesn't mean it is going to be a crap game. the mortars and pack of dogs sound awesome. Imagine watching the dogs savaging your enemy. LOL!

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
