Halo 4

A Closer Look at the Limited Edition Halo 4 Xbox
Written Thursday, July 26, 2012 By Lee Bradley
View author's profile

A new blog post over at Halo Waypoint sheds light on the creation of the new Halo 4 Xbox, while showing off a bunch of new pics of the sexy bit of hardware.

“There were dozens of iterations with hundreds of changing elements, but it’s kind of a continuum of progress and refinement,” says the post.

“We landed on the final design as we went through all of the goals – create a Forerunner-themed object that differed significantly from prior consoles (which is why we ended up with translucent gray plastic – in part to differentiate from the simple metallic finish of the Reach console, which would have been an obvious direction otherwise).”

Announced earlier this month, Halo 4 bundle comes with the 320GB Limited Edition console, two Halo 4 controllers, a Halo 4 headset and a standard copy of the Halo 4 game for £269.99.

Halo 4 is out on November 6. You can find a few pics below, with plenty more through the link.

Well that seals the deal, kinda tacky some might say, but hey, it's still going on my Collectors Edition shelf...
Gotta love the look of those controllers, wonder if they'll sell them separately?

Translucent materials? They look good enough to tempt this magpie:)

Reminds me of the old Crystal Xbox & Dreamcast.

@5 I'm not sure. I've got both the Gears and Reach consoles, and I think I prefer the Reach one more, and the Halo 4 console is somewhere in between. No doubt the Gears controllers are the best of the lot though.

#5 I disagree, I'll be replacing my GOW3 one with the Halo4 console this November. The controllers will be available seperately, just like the COD and GOW ones were :)

Anyone know if this one will be come available in more regions then the Reach one? The Reach console only came out in a few countries in Europe. And while I do want it I am not looking forward to pay huge shipping costs again.

@11 it does a chicken sound when you power up and snouts like a pig when you shut down.

The usual achievement sound is replaced with a small orchestral piece by a popular 16 piece harmonics outfit from Sweeden.

or the hardware's exactly the same as the slim with a lick of paint and sounds exactly the same.

looks awesome but I'm passing. unless they have another bundle that has the Limited Edition copy of the game, then in the U.S. you'll end up buying the bundle and the LE copy for $500. I'm a huge Halo fan, but I can't be spending that kinda money:/ Anywho, the LE controllers that are selling separate from this bundle are looking real nice!

I'm glad I waited before buying the new xbox console. This one looks great and I'll definitely get it now. Looks great with a translucent casing. But too bad they do not include the limited edition of halo 4 with it.

@26 yeah that is a problem. I usually sell the standard edition ons buy the ltd edition seperately.

@28 I like the eject noise, but I would never hear the power one anyway because I always use my controller to switch it on and off.

I'm really liking the blue lights though.

FYI, you will NOT be able to buy those exact controllers individually, the Halo 4 controllers sold outside of the console bundle will look different and be branded with UNSC logos,.

Can't do it...I have Halo 3, Reach and R2 already and would rather get the collector's edition of the game. Why couldn't they just put that in with the console version? Then I probably would go for it.

Already put my pre-order in at Gamestop, cannot wait for this. Even if it is the last 360 I ever get before the next-gen console, it will be sweet to have this one as the console I hook up every now and again to play my old favorites.

I really don't need another console as I already bought the Pro Holiday 2007 bundle, Arcade and now a Slim 250 gb. I'm a big fan of Halo but I just can't get myself to pay $400 for something that will eventually be replaced in a year or two. Also, if its anything like the Gears/MW3/Star Wars consoles I can just wait till there is a sale on it.

@16 No reason to be a douche, the limited edition consoles frequently have different hardware sounds to the regular ones. For the disk tray and the power, that kind of thing. Often they can be annoying and crap, so the guy you were replying to wasn't wrong to say it was a pretty important consideration.

And so Microsoft watch and rub their hands with glee as people get ready to buy another of what they already own just because it has see through plastic with some "halo" inspired design.

Dear me, if these consoles were actually different modeps as in new case designs then id be all for it but its the same console with different plastic. I bet there are some talented individuals out there who could make this. Its not up to me obviously but i cant help but think its a waste of money, especially if it breaks.

Worst case, I can just go and buy the controllers and the HDD separately.

I work for Microsoft and when I first found out about the Halo 4 Xbox 360 system I was stunned at the entire design of the system, by far one of the most ground breaking and innovative designs to date. As much as I loved my MW2 one (it served its purpose well) I'd have to say my favorite to date in terms of system bundling would be Halo 4 and Star Wars.

Again with the OP not putting the price in U.S. Dollars, too (it's $399.99, for those interested)!

The power & eject sounds are disappointing (click on the link at the top to go hear them). Granted, I don't actually "know" the sounds, not having played the game yet (obviously)... but it would be better if these Halo consoles had used more distinctive sounds. Even after knowing the sounds... it still wouldn't be something "everyone" would identify right away.

The Star Wars 360 console... EVERYONE knows what R2-D2 sounds like! It will NEVER be topped (well... not unless they come out with an all black, Darth Vader-skinned console... that has his "breathing" when you turn the console on/off, and his lightsaber igniting when the eject button is pressed)!!!

I would DEFINITELY buy a Darth Vader 360 console like that... even though I shouldn't need another console until the next-gen one releases! :-D

The Xbox 360 Limited Edition Halo 4 Console Bundle comes with two exclusive controllers, a standard edition copy of Halo 4, a wired headset, a 320GB hard drive, built-in Wi-Fi, and Xbox LIVE tokens for exclusive Halo 4 in-game and avatar marketplace downloadable content (FOTUS Armor Avatar Costume, In-Game FOTUS Spartan Armor, Avatar Promethean Crawler Prop, In-game LightRifle Skin, In-Game Unique Unicorn Emblem). It is available through your favorite retailer while supplies last, priced at $399.99 (U.S. ERP). The standalone Xbox 360 Halo 4 Limited Edition Wireless Controller, which features the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) emblem on a dark grey translucent body, will include an Avatar T-shirt as exclusive downloadable content and will be priced at $59.99 (U.S. ERP).

was gonna get it til i read this, i wanted the content of the limited edition but you only get the DLC with that, so i'll probably just get a normal xbox and the legendary edition.
