Double Dragon: Neon

Double Dragon: Neon Brawling its Way to XBLA This September
Written Wednesday, July 18, 2012 By Richard Walker

Double Dragon: Neon will be fighting its way through the mean streets to find its way onto the Xbox Live Arcade this September. Giving the classic Double Dragon an eye-popping colourful makeover with 3D visuals, the 80s side-scrolling beat 'em up sees Billy and Jimmy Lee making a comeback.

As the Lee brothers, you'll need to punch and kick your merry way through waves of punks, as you edge ever-closer to all-round bad guy Skullmageddon (he had no chance with a name like that, did he?) to rescue damsel in distress, Marion.

Double Dragon: Neon will be heading to the Xbox Live Arcade on September 12th for 800 Microsoft Points.

Nice to see they aren't over-charging for this one. I'll probably get this if I can convince a buddy to download.

Still play the original de-listed Double Dragon from time to time on my xbox so as long as it's not a disappointment like Turtles in Time re-shelled I will be getting this.

800 msp for a 25 year old game? you guys nastalgia way to hard. it's was a good game for 25 years ago standards but Wait for a DotW & get it for half. personally id wait for 240-320 point range.

I'll reserve final judgment till we hear if they have added any features to it. online co-op? survival mode?

I don't think the age of a game really matters if it's only 10 dollars. Nostalgia and fun with my friends with a game like this is well worth 10 dollars in my opinion.

$10 seems a bit much I'd say but it could have extras; I'll wait and see. The arcade version of this was so awesome and the NES version sucked balls. Probably the worst port to NES ever, lol. Anyone who has never played this should definitely check it out.

@20 For one thing, this isn't the same game. You obviously never played the NES version of the first one if you think it sucked, while liking the arcade version. The NES version, just as with Turtles 2, was much better. The only downside to the NES version of DD was the lack of co-op, the gameplay was superior to the quarter munching mess of the arcade. Only downsides to NES Turtles was that it was only two players and the graphics weren't as good.
Since this is a modern beat-em-up that isn't about crashing castles, this game will probably suck.

Wow, possibly THE gayest screenshot ever released in any game ever! Two jacked up pretty boys with dyed hair and plucked eyebrows, wearing tight clothing with doggy style reigns, high-fiving in camp fashion against a pink background...

Thumbs down if your moist...

YES!!! I'm so psyched that Xbox is re-releasing all these classics. I can add this to my collection with Golden Axe and Streets of Rage.

I know this won't happen, but can someone please put Shining Force 1 and 2 in a pack with Shadowrun and call it the fucking best Sega RPG's of all time pack?

Considering double dragon first appeared in the 80's, mullets, tight jeans and basically looking like a fag where the 'in' things, we all thought we were cool as fuck back then tho lol, and neon, also very 80's. I'll pick this up, just purely for nostalgia purposes. hope they put some of the combat elements in from super double dragon, like the counter and various grapple moves.

@22 - If I am wrong please feel free to correct me, but we are talking about the original Double Dragon right? Machine Gun guy at the end? Fight your brother. The Arcade version had way more levels, you could keep weapons into the next area, etc. The NES version where you had to 'level up' with experience/hearts, there were only 4 levels, you dropped weapons after each section, no co-op like you said, and the final level had the stupid blocks that came out of the wall... It was and is my opinion that that version did suck, badly. Played it as a kid as I never would have dreamed that I was in the minority on disliking it. Anyone else share my feelings?

This does not bode well for my fond memories of DD... I don't like the looks of it to be honest.

@30 I agree with you. The NES one could only display two enemies on the screen at the same time, and I think they both had to be of the same type, too. The Sega Master System version was by far the superior port at the time. It was not arcade perfect, of course, rather far from it, but it was the better representation of the arcade game and DID have co-op.

The GBA version of the original is really good too. It may be the best you can get with the original XBLA one gone. I don't think this "Neon" version is supposed to be a re-skin of the original game. It was my understanding that they were using the original as a starting point to build a similar but new Double Dragon experience, but I may be mistaken. At least 800 points is the right asking price, unlike Capcom trying to get 1600 pints out of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure!

I'm still annoyed that when Empire Interactive closed down I lost access to the Double Dragon xbla game I purchased, which I realize is trivial because a company closed down and people lost their jobs which is horrible
