Halo 4 to Boast Support for Microsoft Surface

Halo 4 will support Microsoft's Surface tablet, according to the platform holder's President of Interactive Entertainment Business, Don Mattrick, speaking during a VentureBeat GameBeat 2012 conference.

Unfortunately, Mattrick stopped short of providing any real details on how Surface will work with Halo 4, although Microsoft has confirmed that SmartGlass works with the tablet and will therefore be used in Halo 4 too.

We expect things like maps, extra Halo history and Waypoint access will be possible using Surface in Halo 4, but that's just our guess. Halo 4 is out on November 6th, 2012.

Why does this sting of the WiiU?
Oh wait...

But come on. This is just pointless.

Despite it, I still have high hopes for Halo 4. I just hope it doesn't get to gimmicky.

When they showed off the SmartGlass technology at E3, I'm pretty sure I remember them showing a Halo demo using it...

Yup, they showed a possibility/things it's going to be used for in a trailer at E3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_SAkHpNI0w

MS did say all their firt party games going forward will have Smartglass support. Not sure if using Surface make a difference though. What the hey, it's gotta be better than forcing Kinect into everything...

As long as they dont add achievements for using the extra bits of hardware *cough* forza and it doesnt effect the core gameplay when you dont use it then im fine with it :)

I really hope there's nothing exclusive to it. Any maps and stuff would work equally as well on a laptop or PC.

I want more info about SmartGlass before I worry/get excited/shrug. It has a lot of potential, but so does Kinect and it mostly gets wasted (even though I love Kinect). A lot of SmartGlass's potential lies in if developers can use the hardware or not. If they can render native visuals even on a normal Android/iOS level, and stream video back and forth, then they can pretty much do anything Wii U can. If, however, it's all simple graphics and menus because they can't go outside a shallow MS sandbox, it will be about as useful as the current LIVE apps (ie why fucking bother).

@8 there where some cool ideas thrown out there that show it being used as minigames so when picking a lock the minigame would come up on the smart glass and u do it from there in the tech demo thay said you could play the new madden all from the smart glass without a xbox controller as we seen him make the play and through the ball just but tapping who he wants to through it to as you said its all in the developers.

I don't like the idea of this. When I'm playing a game I'm 100% into it and focused on just that. A second display on my lap would never get used and would just be in the way.

They better not link a fucking achievement to it like they did with Forza 4 and the kinect achievement as I'm not buying a bloody £300-600 Ipad/Android or Windows 8 tablet for an achievement. Your suppose to support your fans instead of shoving your tech in there face to unlock an achievement.

I think, this will suck just because of the fact, that they are doing this, for the sake of doing it. This will be just like the Kinect features in other games. Just content locked until you buy extra periphals. Use your Kinect and Smartglass for something the Console and a PC couldn't do. Voice control could be easily done by the headset as well (didn't Endwar do that?). Anyway I think there should just be games for Kinect and Smartglass that are purely designed for it and other games, that keep it just the way it is. It cool if you can track your stats on other devices, but Bungie.net could do that before as well and we didn't need a tablet or Kinect or Windows phone for it.

@13: In their defense, achievements aren't everything and you won't lose any of the game if you choose not to use the tablet. Just saying if it really bothers you that much you might want to stop playing 360 games at this point. And yes I know this is an achievement website but still get real.

@16 That is not the point, not everybody can afford a tablet and to be honest I have no desire to own one, I have a laptop and soon I'll have a PC so why do I need to buy a tablet. Achievement's are suppose to be there for everybody to be able to achieve and not just those to buy into gimicks and buy every gadget under the sun.

I agree with #13. The vision camera achievement in Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 was just idiotic.
