One of the top games of 2011, so lets not let this movie ruin its reputation.

Considering that there are many different ways to play the game (stealth, combat etc.) I'm not convinced this will work. I look forward to finding out though.
Not Mark Whalberg as Adam though please. If he wasn't mental I'd suggest Charlie Sheen as the voice actor who plays Adam in the game sounds like him anyway.

Any game has the potential to be a good film, it's just depends whos working on it,
Terrible cast + plot = poor film. Just like any that are made from books or from scratch.

My opinion is that the best story's in games are ones that are designed and written with the medium in mind with the Half Life, Portal and Bioshock series standing out particularly.
I thought Deus Ex HR's story was one of the best and most thought-provoking I have seen as was the world in which it was told and it doesn't need a film.
Also a film based on a game is a rare chance for non-gamers to get a glimpse into the medium and recognize that games have matured and evolved so if the film was done badly or at the very least didn't capture what made the game so incredible, then once again non-gamers would be left with a low opinion of the medium.

Videogame adaptations that didn't suck(in my opinion):
Doom, Resident Evil(1, 2, and 4), Tomb Raider(I liked them both), Silent Hill(I loved this one), Final Fantasy(I liked TSW and Advent Children, Mortal Kombat(The first was a lot better but again I still liked the second and if you should get a chance to watch Legacy then do so).
If they take the time and get the right actors then both this and the Assassin's Creed movies could be really good. I hope they are successful and maybe that Halo movie will get picked up again.

@8 That's what I have always wanted. I think any films made from games should be CGI, made by the gaming studios (with any other assistence where necessary from outside professionals, like screenwriters etc). The characters should be voiced by the same cast as from the game.
I don't see why it's not been done before. I really can't understand why the film indistry seems to think that only family and kids films can be animated.
An added bonus is that making it CGI would be considerably cheaper and it gives the studios the freedom to create any possible environments without having to wonder if it's possible, with CGI the only limitation is the imagination of the people making it.

@9 lol @ you trying to correct 'my' grammar.
And just to clarify, I said "the last 5 years". You went out of your way to mention films that far exceed that. There was a time when they were pumping them out like cars off an assembly line. And I exclude RE movies, as they're aimed at a specific audience, not the "summer blockbuster" audience"
Let's go down your list of movies.
Tekken: A glorified B-movie, at best. No real stars worth mentioning and had the look and feel of the worst 90s action movies. Not a franchise with blockbuster capabilities on the silver screen.
The Legend of Chun Li: Another B-movie. This title was never expected to be a box office smash. Why they chose to go in an origins-style direction with SF is beyond me, but this was about as low budget as you could get. However, the 'real' Street Fighter movie made in the 90s starring Jean Claude van Damme was thoroughly enjoyable for me. Growing up with the series on the SNES, I have a soft spot in my heart for that movie.
May Payne: Another idea of a semi-decent game story raped by the allure of easy money. Max Payne was never really a serious franchise. Even though the third game was just recently released, I still consider it a second tier project, at best. There's little room for innovation with such a played-out story. It's not 'exactly' routine, but the whole good cop turned vigilante with an astute addiction to narcotics has been played out several times before. One movie that comes to mind here is "End of Days" with Arnold Schwartzenegger. Decent movie, stupid story. This movie was destined to fail because of the worn-out formula and little interest from the movie's producers.
Hitman: I actually enjoyed this movie, for what it was. Nothing too over-the-top. Tim Olyphant played agent 47 brilliantly. The story could've stood some better writing, but that's not the fault of the actors. This was a medium budget B-title, aswell. Could've been so much better than it is, but, as all movies in Hollywood nowadays, if the money's not there, the project will lack.
I've never heard of nor seen any Postal, Far Cry or PoP (whatever that is) movies. The reason I stated your point was moot was because these "dreaded" gaming movies generally fail because the studios backing them don't have enough faith in the projects to support them thoroughly. There's a reason the Halo movie(s) hasn't come out yet. They know that since it has such a huge following and fanbase, anything less than stellar would tank. That's why over the years they've tried getting big name players like Peter Jackson to direct and Sam Jackson (rumor I read a long time ago) to play Johnson or Master Chief. The movie would require a multi $100million+ budget and considering the failure of the low budget video game titles, studios are afraid to take risks on any new projects. That's why myself and many of the people that've replied on here are actually excited at the prospects of a Deus Ex and Assassin's Creed movie(s). There's so much potential in these franchises because the story arcs for the games are actually 'very' good. These titles offer such deep and rich stories that trilogies (or even more) are possible for both. Don't kid yourself. These titles are far beyond the skill level of an Uwe Boll. These titles will have magnanimous names attached to them if/when they come to fruition.
Is that enough detail for you? Should I further emphasize my point of your mootness? I really don't feel the need to. I'll excercise my right to mute myself, as you kids like to say.

As for who could play Adam? Not sure, I'd kind of like them to find an unknown, can't think of many actors off the top of my head who I think would do a great job. Eric Balfour maybe, he could certainly pull off the look.

There was a Far Cry movie and I own it. Its pretty much its own story away from the games. Its not actually that bad. Certainly not a box office smash movie. Bit still good nonetheless. Worth a watch if you would like to form an opinion on it.
As for Adam Jensen? Christian Bale. His voice as Batman reminds me of AJ voice. Time will tell though.

Can't say I feel great about CBS films producing this movie. They haven't had a hit in their short 6 year history. Most of their films aren't marketed that much. They have a business plan of making films for less than $50 million. Which is fine by me, since most Hollywood movies have a bloated budget, but I feel that might be too little for DXHR to capture the look of the film.
I'm not hoping for the best here, but I'd love to be proven wrong.
