Xbox Live is Temporarily Down. Microsoft is Looking Into It

Dammit... You work hard all week, looking forward to playing some games over the weekend and it turns out Xbox Live is currently down. Don't worry though, because Microsoft is aware of the issue and is looking into it.

The issue appears to be affecting the ability to sign in to Xbox Live, as detailed on the Xbox.com service status page. Here's what it's currently saying:

XBOX LIVE Service
Users may experience difficulties with the following services:
  • Signing into Xbox LIVE from an Xbox console
  • Signing into Xbox LIVE from Xbox.com
We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience
We suggest keeping an eye on the status page via the link above, and keep your fingers crossed that the problem is resolved soon. We'd hate to be locked out of Xbox Live over the weekend.

It seems to only be some profiles. Not just that but if you sign in and it works, I don't recommend signing out, as that's what did it to me. I was playing games fine for a couple hours and then signed out and couldn't get back in 3 seconds later.

told me to run test or re download profile. i ran the test it was fine. so i went to recover my profile since my other accounts could log in.. it started recovery.. deleted my profile and now i am unable to recover gamer profiles at this time. so.. not only am i not able to get on live i cant play anything at all.. O_o

I'm not having any issues signing in from Xbox.com, and I logged in just a few minutes ago. It sounds like this is a specific issue with certain users as opposed to a general service failure.

That explains alot. I was on the rewards page, got some ms points, went to buy the Harley Quinn dlc (spend 800 map on anything involving superheros and get 200 back), and as soon as I clicked buy it kept screwing up. I just thought it was the phone with a bad signal. But now I know and knowing is half the battle.

I'm in the northwest and one of my profiles can't connect while my older profile is able to. It's really odd, because I tested the connection and everything ran smoothly. Something maybe profile specific? Perhaps a few of their servers crashed but not all.

i wanted to watch some xfinity! you shouldnt have to be on live to do that, if you have an internet connection it should automatically work (same with other internet based apps)

...but it could just be an app?? why does it have to be XBOX Live? I can see having to OWN and xbox 360 to have to use it, but it requires you to have xbox live gold...

all im saying is that when ps3 network was down, i could still watch netflix..
when xbox live is down, i cannot watch netflix

I live in Austria and I am also not able to get connected to Xbox Live using my profile. Anyway when I do the connection test it tells me that the connection is OK. I hope to get some MS points for the inconveniences although I doubt it.

just tried it on the other account on my xbox and it worked also. Seems to only be my account on my xbox.

so 2/3 accounts worked on the same xbox

mine was the only one that failed

This is to good my main profile is screwed. But I can still log in to my 2nd profile no problem. It told me to recover it, so I did now its disappeared & says in memory unit that file is corrupted. Microsoft I had better not have lost all my saved data!!!!!. Or I wil not be a happy bunny,

trust me, live is better than psn.. psn has constant updates and is randomly down a lot more often than xbl.

maybe it has something to do with the rewards program ??? the 2 accounts that work are not signed up for xbl rewards but the one that doesnt work (mine) is signed up for it..

@81, its obviously not a region issue since multiple ppl have said that all but 1 account works on their xbox.

i have 3 accounts (mine, friends, brothers) and each one works except mine, therefore, it has nothing to do with Region or Consoles... i has everything to do with the Profile only...

I'd like to know how many of us that are having issues are also xbl Reward members.

Ya'll should remember the 2007 and 2008 outages. They did give away free games from it. I use Xbox Live and PSN everyday so I can't forget. But maybe some of ya'll were not around for those failures.

its more hit or miss some ppl can sign in without a hitch and others have probs i dont know how or why but its happing i have a UK friend and im talkin with him over MSN and he cant connect and i cant connect yet some of my other friends can connect and they are up the road lol.....

@96, you must not be able to read, since i explained it @85

using the SAME xbox, IN the SAME bedroom, WITH the SAME TV, with the SAME internet connection i was able to sign into my 2 of 3 accounts and get into xbox live...

but only ONE account wouldnt sign in and it was my main account.

SO it is obviously not regional if i can sign in on 2 accounts from the SAME location but cannot sign in to the other from THAT SAME location...

now un-cross your eyes and re-read it

@107 Dude I read your post (I can read just fine thank you), which means it's not a region problem, nor is it a XBL problem. It's most likely a problem with specific accounts, because if XBL was down, it would affect everyone, including me, and that hasn't happened.

I never stated it was fact that it was a region issue, I just thought it was a possibility, because once again, if XBL was truly down, it would be down for everyone, which isn't the case. Don't know why you're being so damn hostile towards me when all I was doing was coming up with a suggestion as to what the problem might be.

Looks like its coming back up. I can sign in on Xbox.com and I'm recovering my profile and its downloading game info now rather than exiting immediately saying 'profiles can't be downloaded now'. Sucks that I went to download my profile like the error said originally then it seemed to delete it off my hard drive to where I couldn't play anything on it.

I couldn't connect to xbox live earlier so I hopped in the shower then started up Minecraft and "yay" I am now connected to xbox live. If you guys are still having trouble, try starting up a game. It worked for me.

For all you people talking about how much ps3 is so good when something wrong happens to Xbox first off, wtf are you doing on a Xbox 360 based site go play your gay station. I have played with that trash for a year after having Xbox for a year. Gave both of them a try. IMO the ps3 is the dark side of gaming, and the only thing it has better then the Xbox is bluray that's it, don't even envolve gaming, oh yeah the online gaming is bad, lags, people cheat like crazy, and that's when you can get in a online game without it crashing. So you ps3 guys/girls on this site shitin on the Xbox cuz it has a problem right now just remember, it will be online today!, and ps3 still has problems!

issues:
- friend list completely deleted
- could not log in my main account

Glad to know that my wireless connection wasn't the problem. It used to disconnect me every 30 minutes.

Mine has been running fine all day, no issues.

#2, PS3 is only good for the Blu-Ray, about it, the picture is terrible, so go complain elsewhere.

The occuring of the problem or not was depending from the servers you are one.

Because both accounts of my brothers were logging fine on xbox live, but mine wouldn't (and the three are on the same console).

You need to register before being able to post comments.
