loved gears 1 & 2 played it for like 4 years
but gears of war 3 just wasn't gears with sawed off and retro and schit
buyed season pass for it didn't even downloaded the maps lol

That's a real shame #1 I "buyed a season pass" as well and you don't know what your missing out on!
Can't wait to play this although I hope with the fact they are pushing for feb 2013 that the end game doesn't feel rushed =/. |

could be good, didn't really like the way karen wrapped up the story in gears 3 too many loose ends to tie up
like why does myrahh look human and what did the sires have to do with it all
Interesting though she avoids playing games in all and yet fifa is about as far from gears as the game world gets it has no story at all so i'm not sure why it would affect her, maybe she just doesn't like them. |

| Oh thank god. I read one of her Star Wars: Republic Commando books and it blew ass. Also, when you really listen to Marcus in Gears 3, 75 percent of what he said is bullshit filler dialog. |

| That sucks, I liked her Gears of War books. Hopefully the new story is ok. I wonder if maybe thats why they show Cole and Baird in chains and there was no mention of that in the books. I guess with these new writers it will change some of what happened in the past in the story? |

| Thats a shame, I enjoyed her writing style in the books and the way she told the story flicking back and fourth between current events and events in the past. Really felt like i got to know more about the characters, their history and relationships. For me the whole "Brothers to the End" tagline for GOW3, the books truly brought out the relationship between Marcus & Dom. If you read the books you understand even more why Dom did what he had to do in GOW3. |

@13 It might explain why Baird was only a Corporal, even though his work with mechanics and computers was amazing.
Baird and Cole might have been too ashamed by what happened to mention it and the others in their team quiet as well, out of respect. |

Wow, Im actually really surprised Traviss isnt writing for them now. I absolutely loved every one of the 5 gears books she wrote, they gave the characters an amazing amount of depth in the stories and it was easy to identify with them, alot more so than the gears games did. Anyone I know who has read her gears books agrees they are fantastic.
I will probably buy into a gears book that isnt written by her, but Im not sure how it will compare.
I mean shes even been involved in writing the comics aswell and they were also awesome.
Maybe, at least Im hoping, she will return to write more of the franchise in the future, as Im sure the GOW: Judgement will not be the end of the gears series. |

@1 the guns in game have nothing to do with how the story is written
@8 you are thinking just about the gears games which is only a part of the whole gears story. If you actually read the books aswell you would have those questions answered. Especially her latest book "Gears of War - The Slab". You can judge a series if you only focus on half of it. |

I agree completely. I am surprised the people that ***** sawed off, praise the sniper that is the gnasher. both are easy to avoid as long as you don't play stupid and run in with out thinking. Honestly if somebody gets in that close to kill you with the sawed off then no matter what weapon they had you'd br dead.
OT: I am interested to see where this new writer takes the story. I did read some of the books. Mainly the ones about the pendulum wars. I just wish I didn't have to read a book to learn what the sires are and why myrah looks human. Especially since gears 2 made a point to introduce them. |

| This explains why in the books Baird enlisted, made it up to Corporal in the games, but is a Lt. in Judgement. If they are messing with the established storylines very much, I don't think I will like it. |

#18 Baird is only a Corporal because he refuses to kiss ass. He is rude, disrespectful to everyone he meets (apart from Cole) has a superiority complex a mile wide, doesn't get on well with female gears (with the exception of Anya). On the other hand, he's a great soldier, a brilliant mechanic and very good thinker (Something that is very rare after E-day).
If I remember correctly, Baird kinda plays jump rope with his rank. He'll get promoted for his skills... then demoted for his attitude. He'll perform well in a heavy combat mission and get placed in command of his own squad... then steal experimental tech to use against the locust without authorization.
Anyway I personally love all five of Karen Traviss's Gears of War books. They fill in a vast amount of gaps in the Gears universe, such as how Marcus became friends with the Santiago family, the battle of Aspho Fields, Marcus's time in the Slab (as well as how he got the scar on his face) and what happens between Gears 2 and 3. Best of all though, it really allows you to get into the minds of all of the main characters and you get to understand the characters so much more. |

@28 If you watch the Judgement trailer, when the judge is talking to Baird during his trial he gets called a higher rank then he actually is!
I was just saying that the reason he no longer has that rank is because of what happens in the upcoming game. |

If this game has another PRISON TERM SENTENCE ACHEIVEMENT REQUIREMENT, I will NOT BE BUYING and I will seriously reconsider buying another game from Epic if their bullshit holier than thou Seriously acheivement or anything like it rears it's ugly head again in another one of their games. |

I haven't liked anything Traviss has done, so this is welcome news to me. I think approaching a game like Gears 3 - the final game in a trilogy - with as little knowledge of the game and the universe as possible is probably the stupidest choice an author can make.
The story is Gears 3 really showed how little Traviss knew about the world. Hell, the Gears 1 story was better. |
