Xbox Live Update Fixes Some Racing Wheel Issues, Causes Others

An update hit Xbox Live yesterday, bringing a range of behind the scenes stuff as well as voice search support for Australian and New Zealand accents.

However, some racing wheel issues caused by the June 12th update racing persist, with more added.

The 12th June update lead to users experiencing disconnection problems and erratic force feedback when using the official, Fanatec and MadCatz racing wheels.

Yesterday’s update fixed some of those issues, but has caused new problems with wheels and wireless controllers made by Datel. The official Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel is also experiencing disruptions and lost connections.

"We are aware a limited number of Xbox Live members are experiencing issues with the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel controller following the recent Xbox Live update," Microsoft said in a statement.

"We are actively working to resolve this as soon as possible and appreciate your patience."

  • interesting side effect
  • Glad I don't have a racing wheel right now. Although the one that I was looking at was going to cost $600+ US.
  • Not sure if this has anything to do with these recent updates but I've been having disconnect issues with my wireless Mic lately. It would disconnect and when it reconnects it would lag whatever game I'm playing. Started happening around when the first update came out. Anyone else with this issue?
  • No
  • @3 constantly with my MW3 LE bluetooth mic. Hell few days ago it dc'd they reconnected as a controller :/ Had to do a total system reset to refresh the error.
  • had to get rid of my turtle beaches. screwed up my wi fi connection !!
  • I been having recent disconnecting issues with xbl I get disconnected more often. Even though the computer been on the internet the whole time so its not my connection. The only thing thats connected with everyone else is I do use a wireless headset I don't even own a steering wheel or Fanetic or Madcatz products.
  • Great.. now I understand why my datel doesn't work anymore.
  • I own an official racing wheel and can't say I've noticed these issues yet.
  • My fridge doesn't connect to my cooker wireless anymore, I have to use a HDMI frying pan.
  • @7 Me and a friend have been having similar problems. Same as we will be talking and randomly it will disconnect everyone from the party then reconnect them with no warning. Very frustrating when playing a game like Battlefield and you are trying to coordinate an assault.
  • @10 That sounds so damn inconvienent Microsoft needs to get their shit together so far my kitchen appliances aren't affected though time will tell.
  • For the people having problems with there datel controllers http://www.codejunkies.com/update/
  • @13 Whether or not they actually get it to work remains to be seen. It isn't just a simple bug that they aren't working. Microsoft specifically coded the update to prevent unlicensed wireless controllers from working with the 360 (and all Datels are unlicensed). I'm honestly surprised that major retailers stock controllers that the console manufacturers specifically say not to use.
  • I was hoping for some backwards-flying dragons
  • I've actually had issues with my regular wireless controller disconnecting for no reason lately.
  • So is this why my controller keeps disconnecting randomly? :/
  • Fail.
  • my mad catz wheel keeps switching off mid-race on f1, though not on forza. but it's always done that, not just since the update.
  • My wireless mic disconnects randomly as well. It's the standard $50 black one.
  • So this is why I kept randomly getting disconnected from XBL yesterday >.>
  • and people wonder why im against going completely wireless... this is yet ANOTHER example of updates destroying good consoles/games, please, we are NOT your beta testers microsoft, though these days it sure feels like we are...
  • Ahhh thanks let us know what updates were. I go on Xbox now and tell some my friends about what updates is hehehe. :):)
  • I've discoloration and all my setting is messed up, the change of color has been a big issue to me. I can't get it back to the way I had it, I've been in the setting to get to go back to how I had it. Besides the disconnection does anybody else have this problem as well?
  • Darn. I was hoping for some news as to why Reach has been going bonkers. Any idea if that is related to the title update or if that is just an issue with 343's servers? Live in general is a mess right now. :(
  • Might be due to the update...Some bugs haven't been fixed yet.
  • @22 They are using us as their beta testers for these things if you haven't noticed :P This also saves them money as they have to pay beta testers majority of the time and with us they don't. Saves them plenty of cash and we are used as their guinie pigs. Though this isn't something just Microsoft does but most companies these days tend to do now.
  • My wheel has been fine. I'm lucky I missed this as I've been playing a lot of F1 2011 over the last few days.
  • I just purchased an official wireless racing wheel. No problems from what I can tell. I use my Astro A 40 wireless 5.8GHz headset, there has been no problems whatsoever. I've never had disconection problems but feel sorry for the ones that do. Some of you guys are making it out to be as bad as the PS3's PSN. So far the only things I noticed about the update is the fact that we can now sort our games with the FULL option and we can now view all of our game videos without having to open up zune or use that little trick where you play a game video from the marketplace and then it lets you acesss your game videos without going through Zune. While I have no complaints Microsoft really needs to get their shit together if this brings a host of new problems to the table. It's quite obvious to ANYONE IN THE 2011 METRO DASHBOARD BETA that MS got in way over their heads with all these apps. Remember the HDMI referenece level problem where all the color was washed out of out videos and the crushed black levels? It's all due to those apps, I guarantee you.
  • I've been getting disconnected within FIFA Ultimate team everytime I try and sign a player and then store him to club. When I log back in it works for that one player but again for the next player it kicks me out. Pain in the backside.
  • Have they every fixed a PC problem without creating 2 more? No, so why would the xbox be any different. I get disconnected every 15mins since the update, it signs me out during games and as soon as i quit to dash it signs itself back in again with no input from me.
  • Im foreone who is glad they banned datel products. They kept make make cheat products like rapid fire cointrollers, turbno controllers etc that posses a threat to online games. They were basically releasing modded products to people and try to mainstream it. like its ok to rapid fire a semi-auto weapon in MW3 no thanks
  • Well I haven't had issues but I have been getting an error where if I have a Wired Controller plugged in and I turn my xbox on 1st using a wireless for some reason the wireless will slowly connect to the xbox which makes it frustrating as the wired controller will suddenly be player one and I always having to restart the xbox and unplug my wired controller to make sure I get player one on my wireless and it sucks! Also I too have been losing connection to xbl off and on.
  • Why is it that Microsoft will patch one bug, but introduce 3 new ones?
  • It also makes some users not actually able to update their console. No update, no LIVE or any online at all. It happened to a few friends already.
  • Thats really sad for some of you. All I can say is that I've also owned a PS3 since launch with the 360 and compared to that Delaystation, my 360 is not only a downloading machine that can download content 8x faster than the PS3, but I HAVE NEVER, EVER, NOT EVEN ONCE, been disconnected randomly from xbl. Maybe if a game froze or something but that is about it. I don't have verizon fios, I have Time Warner cable with a 15mbps down and 2mbps upload. I don't understand why people are having problems when all this time, I continue to praise the superior of Xbox live over the Playstation network. Good luck to those of you with DC problems though. I guess I should count my blessings.
