Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Kojima Confirms Metal Gear Solid 5, Says “We Have Not Yet Finished With Solid Snake"

Hideo Kojima has confirmed development on Metal Gear Solid 5, revealing some scant details on the game and hinting that Solid Snake’s story is not yet over.

“There will be a Metal Gear Solid 5 with the new FOX Engine,” said Kojima (via the magic of Google Translate), “but what we’ve shown was not gameplay, or anything like that. It was only a demo that we had developed internally and released because the lighting and interactions with the environment had fooled everyone.”

“About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things,” Kojima continued. “There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you “a favor” like in the last Metal Gear Solid.

“I liked the idea of social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but we will see. And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces. So it’s better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about Metal Gear Solid 5.”

Kojima also mentioned Metal Gear Rising and pointed to Solid Snake’s future.

“Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid. This is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different. We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots,” he said.

Platforms for Metal Gear Solid 5 are yet to be revealed. The previous title in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, was a PS3-exclusive. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, meanwhile, is multiplatform. Make of that what you will.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is out in early 2013. You can read our latest preview here.

Port metal gear solid 1/4 even if its a remake to avoid it being an exclusive straight port. Idk just make it happen before mgs 5 or I will be pissed off.

@ 11 What are you talking about? Raiden is never referred to as a Snake. His names Jack and his codename is Raiden. And Solid Snake's name is David, Big Boss' is John.

@11 I don't think you have a clue what you are talking about. The person in the picture is Raiden, aka Jack. Solid Snake's name is Dave (or at least that's what he calls himself at the end of MGS1). Besides that little difference, they don't even resemble each other in the slightest.

start of mgs 2 you take solids code name and they call you solid snake. So maybe you need to check your facts?

I believe #7 is referring to the fact that Raiden's code name was Snake in the intro to the Plant mission part of MGS2. The "Colonel" changes his code name to Raiden just after he arrives at Strut A on Big Shell (and the name stays in place the remainder of the series).

Wow, so for the 10 mins of MGS2 he is called (fake)Snake, that automatically makes him Snake forever? um no, he is Raiden/Jack and always will be.

Anyway OT, hoping MGS5 is on xbox 360/720 because id hate to have to buy another PS3/4 just to play it.

@17 Raiden isn't called Solid Snake at all, the colonel merely calls you Snake to start with, which is quickly dropped in favour of the codename Raiden when it is revealed that Solidus is using the codename Solid Snake. His codename change was deliberate, and he was never actually going to have the codename Snake, the colonel/GW intended for him to always be called Raiden.

But keep drinking that kool-aid, troll, if that's what gets you through the day.

OT: I'm glad that something has been announced regarding MGS5. It's just a shame that we'll never see MGS4, frankly.

hmm... much as I love mgs what they gonna do with snake? at the end of 4 he goes off to live out the little remaining life he has left, unless your playing as another 'clone' of snake can't see how it would work, he's an old, dying man! either way I'll be very interested to see where they take this and will play it regardless of platform.

We don't need another MGS. Snake is old and dead. Let him stay that way. If anything, give us a real remake of MGS1. That gamecube "reimagining" was just over-the-top garbage. Seriously. Backflipping and hopping off of a stinger missle? Bleh.

And I love how Kojima "liked" DX:HR enough to wanna rip off the gameplay and toss it into his outdated franchise. Deus Ex is better than Metal Gear, Kojima. Always will be. No matter what you try to rip out of it and make your own.

While I absolutely adored Metal Gear 1 and 2, and MGS 1-3, if we don't get MGS4 ported over before this is released, I'm going to pass. PS3 fanboys are used to not getting the previous games in a series ala "No Dead Rising 1, and no Mass Effect 1, but I refuse to put up with that.

If Kojima San wants xbox users to get hooked on the series, the MGS hd collection is NOT ENOUGH. We still need MGS1 and MGS4 if MGS5 is to be released on our platform.

I never played MGS4 when I had a ps3... I was too busy trying to stay connected to their trash network psn. All on Sony's end too, I might add.

Okay from now on when a developer says "this is the ending game in our series" I'm not listening anymore. First Halo and Mass Effect (unconfirmed but the door is open), then Gears of War and God of War, now MGS!! Please put it on Xbox 3!!!
