Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Co-op and Spies vs. Mercs Return for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Ubisoft Promising Big Things

Ubisoft may be keeping details of Splinter Cell: Blacklist’s multiplayer locked away in the Tom Clancy sweatshop for now, but we do know one thing: Spies vs. Mercs is back.

Spies vs. Mercs is the series' nifty competitive mode that pits a team of sneaky, gadget-wielding agents against a well-armed, bullet-spitting militia. It’s a bit good.

"That's probably the number one fan requested mode, and it's about time, really," said community developer Zack Cooper. "We've wanted to communicate this and we're so excited about saying that we've got it. We're not talking about the details."

Beyond this, Blacklist also marks the return of Splinter Cell co-op. Cooper said, "Co-op is back. It was a huge hit from Conviction and previous to that as well. It's all about giving you options.

"We're calling this the biggest, most ambitious Splinter Cell ever," Cooper continued. "And we're not just saying it, we mean it - it's there. And when we start communicating the finer points, the details, I know that people are just going to fall in love all over again."

There you go then. Developer thinks developer’s game will be good. Amazing.

I remember playing Spies and Mercs on DA. Definitely some good times there. Hopefully this is just as good!

Will the enemy AI still shout "I am coming for you" Each time they spot you? Because that was the best part :P

I might have to get the game just because of Spies vs Mercs. I have no interest in it otherwise, but man did I miss Spies and Mercs...

I hate to say it, but it's still a no buy for me at launch. The lack of Michael Ironside is unacceptable in my opinion and no bells and whistles will be able to let me look past that disappointment even if I were to pick it up.

I may consider getting it later on when the game has dropped in price or is on clearance somewhere, time will tell.

Hope multiplayer is more like Chaos Theory than Double Agent, tbh.

Spies vs Mercs is great, except everytime I played, I was forced to be the mercs because people refuse to play as anyone but the spies, That kind of ruins it for me. Conviction was my favorite, I enjoyed both the Co-Op and the single player. I loved all the splinter cell games, but some of the older were a little too slow paced for me.

@7 and many others - I know that this Michael Ironside things sucks for a lot of fans of the series, but x360a put an interview video up that explained why Ubisoft changed the main character's voice actor. I would wait for more videos to come out before making any harsh decisions based on the voice actor.

To be honest, I was pissed that the voice of Altair in Assassin's Creed: Revelations was different from the first game, but that did not stop me from playing a great game (in my opinion).

Well I am a hardcore Chaos Theory fan, and don't appreciate that more action focus in this game and the loss of Ironside's sexy voice, as a Splinter Cell fan since the first one, I have I get this.

I hate it when devs say " the most ambitious of the series yet " well no shit it's a sequel id expect nothing less then it going further then the rest .

Have to agree with others as well , no Ironside is like snake without heyter . It's part of it .

Anyone else besides me remember playing a player made game mode called "tag" or something in the older games? I had so much fun with spies vs. mercs back in the day but Conviction sort of killed my interest in the series.

BEST NEWS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spies vs Mercs was the missing link in Conviction. They would have to remove the tag and kill system though for that.

Michael Ironside is narrating the game and he is still a very large part of Splinter Cell

Spies vs Mercs in Pandora Tomorrow was my favourite multiplayer ever made... then they made Chaos Theory and that one blew me away for years I played it, even after I got a 360 I played it even though it gave you an unfair advantage (some graphical bugs when playing it on 360 included being able to see a black outline around invisible spies).

I hope they improve on Chaos Theory's mode and not Double Agents because I really didn't like Double Agent's Spies vs Mercs...

I'll miss Ironside but we shouldn't let his absence make us reject this game. I personally cannot wait!

After the wreck that Future Soldier's online modes turned out to be, it will be a long time before I buy something that says Ubisoft on the cover and expect a decent, or even functional multiplayer experience.

I hope they leave in the option, as a Spy, to taunt the Merc who you're about to snap the neck of. I miss being able to tell my victim "Got your wallet, bitch." as I drag their sorry carcass to a nice dark corner...

Learning that Michael Ironside wasn't voicing Sam was one of the most depressing things I've heard in a while. Learning that Conviction was dropping Spies vs. Mercs felt the same way, lol - they're trying to balance out the damage. I adore SvM, I was #1 ranked in the world in Pandora Tomorrow for over six months. They unbalanced it in Chaos Theory and then they kind of ruined it in Double Agent. So hopefully, they took that time in between to bring it back to the glorious MP experience that it was.

Anyone who isn't giving this game a chance just because Ironside isn't voicing Sam is stupid. I'm as annoyed as the next person that they've changed the voice of Sam but the game still looks great. I'm sure the new guy will do a good job, it just might take some getting used to. It's as bad as the people saying they aren't getting the game because from the few minutes of footage released, they've decided the entire game is totally action with no stealth. Stupid.

I'll play SvM, but I'm way more happy about the addition of co-op. Had a blast just toying with the enemy with my buddy in Conviction.

Double Agent sucked!!! The first two were the best! SpC is one of the best Stealth based games IMO, why take it away from what it was based on?

Hm, this looks good. It's a shame about Michael Ironside, but it seems like Ubisoft are combining the changes from Splinter Cell: Conviction - which upset a few people - with the great gameplay and style of old ones such as Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow... which is awesome.. Fingers crossed it pays off!
