Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim’s Dawnguard Campaign Around 10 to 20 Hours Long
Written Friday, June 15, 2012 By Lee Bradley

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s upcoming add-on, Dawnguard, is around the same length as a faction quest line from the main game, reckons Bethesda. It’s also longer than anything the studio created for Fallout 3.

“It’ll take between 10 and 20 hours to beat,” said lead artist Matt Carofano. “It’s about as long as a faction line.”

Although the expansion is not the biggest Bethesda has ever made, it’s still rather chunky. “Dawnguard will be significantly bigger than any Fallout DLC,” Carofano said. “We wanted to do something more in depth than that. It’s not as big as Shivering Isles, but there’s still a lot of content there.”

Details on Dawnguard’s content were revealed via beta testers recently. You can find out all the info through here. The DLC itself is out later this month.

Glad to hear that Bethesda is really pushing for lots of content in Skyrim DLC. I definitely can't wait to get back into Skyrim.

On a little bit of a tangent, even though it was over 5 years ago, Shivering Isles still ranks as one of the best bangs for your buck any DLC has produced. Nowadays you can beat an entire retail game quicker than you could Shivering Isles. Shows you how greedy some in the industry have become in regards to DLC - profit over quality.

I can't wait for Dawnguard. I really hope one of the other Skyrim DLC sees the return of the Daedre or explains the mystery of the Dwemer. I also had a strong feeling that Dawngaurd would not be as large in size compared to Shivering Isles but I'm sure one of the later DlC will be.

bigger than any of Fallout 3's dlc? That'll do nicely. Hopefully you'll be able to roam back and forth to the main game mid dlc. It was really useful to be able to do that with the shivering isles. Especially with the Ring of destruction & the Soul Tomato. Not to mention using Felldew poisoning to over level your stats. Good times.

@6 there's a few new areas. 1 is a realm of oblivion, which you will probably be able to enter and leave as you please. The other, I think, is expanding the current map with new places etc

@6 - I have a feeling that you will be able to flit back and forth between the expansion and the main game. I hope so, I have a little bit of cleaning up to do in the main game but I'm leaving it till I see what goodies I can bring back from Dawnguard.

I'm going to assume there's no achievements for this? Good job Skyrim is a decent game with or without achievements.

I for one cant wait for the DLC to arrive! I personally don't know anyone who is planning on assisting the Dawnguard, I just hope both Factions are even because it looks like Vampires are a clear choice to me.

As a rule of thumb I usually divide how long people say it takes to do something in a game by half. 5-10 hours seems more likely to me but I'll gladly be wrong.

Well I've bought full priced games that took less than 10-20 hours so 1600 MSP ain't so bad.

Longer, fewer, pricier DLC's will be much better than what they did for FO3. All of them were overpriced bar point lookout and only PL and the pitt were any good although the pitt was too short.

Still at least Skyrim didn't have an ending so we don't have to be subjected to a TES version of Broken (canon) Steel.

24 has my general approach to time estimates. Though I would guess around 7-15 rather than 5-10.

@33 Haha every now and then I gotta throw something out there. I'm still usually a personable fellow. I just thought it hilarious how many non-gamers I know were trying to talk to me about Skyrim back at the end of last year, trying to earn some sort of props that they were "gamers" now. It got really old.

@38 Main questline does not equal main game. Bethesda games whilst massive and open are well known for having exceptionally short main stories

i love how the campaigns for COD are less than 10 hours and are £45 for each game and bethesda bring out an expansion double that and half the price. Really looking forward to a proper set of dlc that is a fully fledged expansion pack.

DLC like this is one of the reasons that Bethesda is my favorite developer/publisher. Don't even care if this has achievements or not. Also disproves EA/Bioware trying to justify day one DLC by saying people will sell their games if DLC is released a few months after the game. Bethesda could have removed content for day one DLC too, but they obviously have more respect for their customers.

I'm a fan of skyrim, but I go through phases, were I think it's awesome and phases were I just can't be bothered with it. I have to say though, compared to some pieces of DLC were games are overpriced, e.g. EURO 2012 expansion for FIFA 12. Skyrim will be worth the price.

There are 10 new achievements added with the Dawnguard expansion.

But because I don't want to break the NDA, I can't tell you what they are...
