Skyrim Update Now Available on XBL

The latest update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has gone live, Bethesda has announced. The update brings mounted combat to the game, as well as a bunch of bug fixes.

Skyrim’s first DLC, Dawnguard, was recently given a trailer, with a tentative release date of 26th of June. Bethesda are currently accepting sign ups for the DLC's beta, giving fans a chance of getting in on the action early (and y'know actually test it). 

Full Update 1.6 patch notes can be found below.

Features:

  • Mounted Combat - Skyrim now allows you to do melee and ranged combat while riding a horse.

Bug fixes:

  • General stability and memory optimizations.
  • General AI pathfinding optimizations and bug fixes.
  • Optimizations and crash fixes for data leaks.
  • Fixed rare crash with lighting.
  • Fixed crashes related to loading and saving games.
  • Fixed crash with summoned creatures/NPCs.
  • Fixed rare issue where saves would be corrupted.
  • Improved logic for when ranged kill cams are played.
  • Fixed issue with ranged kill cams while killing a dragon.
  • Fixed rare issue with certain ranged kill cams not playing properly.
  • Fixed issue with nirnroot lighting not properly cleaning up.
  • Fixed issue where bow damage was being calculated incorrectly.
  • Fixed rare problem with werewolf kill moves would not finish animating properly.
  • In "The Break of Dawn" fixed rare issue where Meridia's Beacon would disappear from player's inventory.
  • Fixed occasional issue where followers would disappear after player pays off a bounty after committing a crime.
  • Fixed issue where certain creatures and NPCs would fail to respawn properly.
  • Fixed rare issue with dialogue subtitles not displaying properly.
  • Fixed issue with water appearing blurry when loading a saved game after creating a save underwater.
  • Fixed issue where map cursor would occasionally disappear after closing a message box with Kinect enabled  (Xbox 360).
  • Fixed rare issue with shouts only performing the first level and not other unlocked levels with Kinect enabled  (Xbox 360).
  • Fixed issue where the shout buttons would stop working properly if users mashed LB and RB during cooldown with Kinect enabled  (Xbox 360).

Funny how you guys complain about being bugged stuck in a place, fuckin restart the game from scratch, I had over 800hrs in oblivion and my Hard drive got wiped 2 times cuz of Microsoft updates and yet I still we.t back in and played, why? Cuz I love those games. And I got free shit off Microsoft cuz of there fuck ups lol

i wish i didnt get this right when it came out and got 1000/1000 within a month, cause ever since then i havnt touched it. and they keep coming out with "better ways" to make it more fun, but it just isnt enough to make me wanna pop it back in.. i hope the DLC is worth the $20 for it. i'm still debating on if i'm even getting it yet

I have never used a horse in Skyrim or Oblivion. I always use a Khajiit, they have the speed and stanima to out pace any horse in the land of Skyrim. Plus Nightvision kicks ass.
IMO the Khajiit are the coolest characters to use in Elder Scrolls and I love when a random NPC refers to me as "Sneak Thief"

Still a few bugs in the game for sure. A couple of the deadric quests still become unfinishable. Dopey npc's don't follow when they say they will. Only thing to do is save often and in new slots so you can reload.

OT: Awesome... I rarely use horses though to be honest, but I stole Frost just last night, so should be worth a try :P
The idea of ranging on horseback just sounds beast :D
On another note, it still seems they haven't fixed the issue where the Jarl of Solitude disappears forever (And no, I'm not on that Dark Brotherhood Wedding quest, before you start xD)

@44 When was the last time you played ? If I remember correctly there have been 3 updates so if you are playing it offline you will still have a full glitched game.

@# 5 I lost shadowmere too, for 3 months. finally found him outside of the rifton stables, he got lost during a dragon attack. can't wait to take my rediculous bow and kill anything that moves on horse back.

have they even fixed the companions quest cuz the last time i palyed it i couldnt cure 1 from being a werewolf so i couldnt cure myself, and skior was back from the dead in my game, its not that i'm complaining but i wanted to be a vampire, purely cuz i'm always a stealth based player, khajit

I wonder if they are going to fix the bug where some people don't die. Many times I've gone into a camp and killed everyone but this one guy just doesn't seem to die. Bends down, on low health. Then gets back up 20 seconds later with it all regenerated ... weird.

@60 - is that in the Stormcloak/Imperial camps?? I did the Imperial questline, and now when I go to any remaining Stormcloak camps this happens, all but the 'leader' of the camp die, but the leader guy is always unkillable, I've been to 3 now where thats happened. real strange.

@65 but when you finish the Civil War questline, for Imperial's anyway, not done Stormcloaks. The General guy for Imperials, I forget his name it's been ages since I played it, but he tells you "If you come across any remaining Stormcloak camps on your travels, make sure to eliminate them" - or at least something to that effect, so I'm sure it's bugged.

@66 a bug is one or maybe even two NPC's being unkillable, which some people may not experiance, the leaders of every war camp on two different factions being unkillable on all games is more likely or not intentional, the leaders of the camps evidently have essential status for some inane reason.

@67 yeh fair point, if it's not just me, probably is a reason for it. I just thought it was bugged because it had told me to do something that I then couldn't do, and I hadn't heard anyone else have the same problem before.
plus it was the same as a an earlier bit in the Civil War quest line where I had a character I couldn't kill because it was conflicting with a main quest, so I thought maybe it was something similar.

I started over and I'm about 80 hours in and just starting to experience lag spikes. If it becomes unbearable again, I'm giving up and selling this game which would be unfortunate becuase I am looking forward to Dawnguard. My first character started getting 20 second long lag spikes though, that's unacceptable.

@46 actually my game isnt glitched at all. i stayed away from all patches. my graphics were fine too. i thought it was premature to have a patch out that quick. so i waited, my game works perfectly fine. the only thing that sucks. i wont be able to get all the cool extra features & DLC.
