Ron Gilbert's 'The Cave' Unveiled by Double Fine and SEGA

Double Fine has struck up a partnership with SEGA to publish its latest adventure, this time from the mind of Ron Gilbert. It's called The Cave and features some classic side-scrolling, platform-jumping adventure, as three unlikely adventurers unite when they stumble upon an underground amusement park and medieval castle.

There's also a "fully armed and ready-to-launch nuclear-tipped ICBM" to uncover. Yes, The Cave will possess Double Fine's usual dose of endearing quirkiness, with plenty of puzzles to solve and traps to avoid, as well as odd characters to encounter.

Described in the press release as "odd and compelling", The Cave will be heading to the Xbox Live Arcade in early 2013. You can check out the first batch of eight screenshots in the gallery and the first teaser trailer below.

I'm really hating the trend of announcing arcade games this far ahead of their intended release date. I want this. Now. Same goes for Deadlight. XBLA has officially surpassed retail as far as the frequency of quality games coming out these days.

Is this the one the did Kick Start for? If it is, while I'm excited and think it looks great, it seems kinda strange that they are having Sega publish it. I thought the whole point of needing the kick start was that no one was willing to publish it and they couldn't afford to do it themselfs.

Isn't Double Fine Adventures supposed to be point&click?
And is Gilbert staying with Double Fine after "The Cave" and working on DFA as well?
