its awesome how you can just repackage a game and slap-on 'GOTY' regardless if it won it or not. ie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_the_Year#Video_games_-_Critic_and_editor_awards_.28Game_of_the_Year.29 crtl+F - search Dead Island... yeah it doesn't come up.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:32 AM
I though you actually had to win a GOTY award to deserve a GOTY edition?Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:33 AM
I thought Dead Island was solid, but maybe "Complete Edition" would be more appropriate than "Game of the Year"Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:34 AM
Glitch of the year more like.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:35 AM
Might have to get this.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:37 AM
If the hit recognition actually worked in this game it could have been good but when you're swinging and hitting absolutely nothing for about the millionth time whilst a zombie is quite happily chewing your nads off you know a game is bad !Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:38 AM
GOTY Edition Criteria: 1. Actually be worthy of that title. 2. Have more than 1 1/2 DLCs available.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:39 AM
Well I for one am happy. I've been waiting for one like this to show up. It's amusing that the industry has trained me to NOT buy a game until I know for sure whether or not there will be a complete version.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:45 AM
I actually though about bying this game besides from the mixed revieuws. Until I was in the store an the guy behind the desk told me that there was no split screen and so no local multiplayer. Then I was like " Ohh, but it could have sworn that I read about it". And so I bought Left 4 Dead 2 instead, now regrets about that decision :)Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:47 AM
- Dead Island - GOTY lolTuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:51 AM
@10 no forum posts -LOL asshat! -No gamertag LOLTuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:52 AM
I actually loved this game, it was probably my 2nd favorite game of the year behind Skyrim. I didn't really have many problems with it, aside from the location glitch and i did have a lvl 39 character get corrupt and have to start over. So I guess that was a really bad one. I did find the game fun as hell though, playing with 3 friends we played from 11 am on release day until 7 am the next day. So we all enjoyed it ALOT, and it has a 89% rating from fans on this site so a lot of others enjoyed the game as well. Not sure why so many people hated it, but it definitely doesn't deserve a GOTY edition. Both DLCs were garbage, and I never even finished the Ryder one. I was so ticked off that enemies just kept spawning, so you got overwhelmed and never got a break to move on to the next area. And if you died you went back to a previous checkpoint, rather than just respawning like in the regular game and all the enemies you killed still being dead. So they REALLY screwed up on both DLCs, they were just horrible.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:54 AM
What a complete joke. Deep Silver is one of the dumbest publishers I have seen.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:55 AM
What a fail this is... This is why there is a "complete edition".Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:07 AM
Umad, #11?Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:10 AM
This has to be the biggest Marmite game ever, you either really love it or really hate it.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:11 AM
Isn't this by the same fucks who made CoJ: The cartel? Also, why the heck does this exist.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:16 AM
This has got to be one of the worst games to actually deserve GOTY. They make a glitchy game and then make lots of trailers for it. What dumbasses actually gave it a GOTY award?Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:23 AM
How much is it gonna be?Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:23 AM
So my preorder for The Ripper to be exclusive to me is wasted? Fuck you too, Deep Silver.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:29 AM
@19 $29.99 US £19.99 UKTuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:33 AM
After all these years, people still don't realize that there are about 100+ categories for GOTY. Dead Island won with this trailer. http://youtu.be/lZqrG1bdGtgTuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:36 AM
i really enjoyed this game, although i probably wont ever get the dlc for it i will be playing it againTuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:36 AM
I still will never understand why people have to buy DLC day one as it releases. Or pay 1200 points for arcade titles, etc.. Even pay the full 60 bucks for retail games... Show alittle patience people, this prices drop so frickin quick...Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:41 AM
This was the best game not named Skyrim last year. I'd wager heavily that 95% of the haters didn't even play it. It was no glitchier than any Bethesda offering, and, personally, I didn't run across a single glitch once. Tremendous game. I will say, I'm scared right off that DLC though. Doesn't sound great. Maybe Ryder White's.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:43 AM
Awesome! I'll buy this lol!Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:45 AM
pissed i sold my copy, fer sure gonna pick this up.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:49 AM
Was a good co-op game but i was disappointed with the dlcTuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:50 AM
Here's the official press release for winning the award... now you know. http://www.mcvnordic.com/news/read/deep-silver-wins-awards-for-dead-island/094988Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 12:06 PM
dumb question. never played a goty (game) before. i have 1250 gs for dead island so if i play this edition could i get another 1250? and say if i did purchase the goty edition could i play with a friend whose just playing on the normal edition? thanksTuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 12:20 PM
Game of the what now?Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 12:32 PM
Who in their right mind would vote this as Game of the Year? Seriously. Skyrim, Gears 3, Saints Row 3... SO many better titles, even if you're a complete loon. More like "Failure of the Year."Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 12:54 PM
Certain people are right, I had more bugs and glitches while playing Skyrim than playing this. My friend and I beat it within a day but that's what made it so much fun. If you played this with friends then you know how much of a good time it was beating down zombies. I never downloaded the dlcs only because after the main story was done I did not feel like going back to this at all.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 01:07 PM
I don't know why so many people complain about the GOTY? It doesn't even matter to me what its called. Could be "Best game ever edition" as long as they release a version with all the DLC. How often does it happen, that you buy an old game for 10-15$ only to see, that the DLC overall still costs 20 or 30$. Every game that has DLC, should at some point do one of these editions. If you don't want the DLC, fine buy the regular one but for completionists its always better to have a full version of a game on disc available.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 01:15 PM
That chick in the background is gonna get jacked if she hits that zombie with a melee weapon or stays too close to him, BOOM!Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 01:18 PM
Complete Edition or something would be a way better name. And looking at the reviews of the DLC im not even going to pick up this "GoTY" editionTuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 01:18 PM
Was this game given a GOTY edition because it won an award for Most Glitches? Terrible.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 01:20 PM
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if it's been labelled as GOTY because most of the non-gaming community (i.e. general public) have come to know GOTYs as having DLC added with the game, so for their sake it makes sense (marketing-wise). But yes, I agree a "Complete Edition" would make more sense in name.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 01:25 PM
Whats with all the hate? I thought this game was enjoyable. Plus I found a whopping one glitch.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 01:30 PM
Buying the Ripper on Ebay, getting the game used, and the DLC separately is probably cheaper.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 04:02 PM
Played this with three other friends for hours, it was a lot of fun.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 06:05 PM
DI Was sure as hell not GoTY I thought it sucked.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 06:22 PM
Pricing?Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 06:29 PM
Dead Island was GOTY last year, among games named Dead Island.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 08:19 PM
I was on Steam and saw this game was on sale (60% off, so $11.99), but I figured I'd check a few reviews first. This was the first site I came to, and much to my surprise I see this on the main page. Looks like I'm buying the game, skipping the DLC.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 10:03 PM
I'm surprised people are bitching about this being GOTY and whether it deserves it or not. As much as I love Dead Island, the GOTY version is completely unnecessary. Most who bought the game would've pre-ordered it and got all the DLC for free anyway. Didn't anyone notice that the pre-order DLC was ALL the DLC this game has? So pre-ordered games = GOTY version and GOTY version = unnecessary.Tuesday, May 22, 2012 @ 11:32 PM
@11 I laughs at you like HaRdKoRe ^^^That's about how gay you sounded to me.Wednesday, May 23, 2012 @ 03:43 AM
It won a few GOTY awards not main category though, so it's ok. Great they are realeasing a complete edition, might pick this up now as I didn't when it launched. I don't know for some reason Complete edition, always grab my attention and drag myself towards them perhaps MAGIC :PWednesday, May 23, 2012 @ 03:39 PM
GOTY, lol what?Thursday, May 24, 2012 @ 01:36 AM
considering Arkham City and Skyrim won EVERY GOTY award across the board I'm calling shenanigans. I heard it was a L4D and Dead Rising desperate wannabee at best.

Deep Silver has officially announced a Game of the Year Edition for Dead Island, bundling the zombie action-survival title with all of the previously released DLC.
Those add-ons include the Bloodbath Arena mode, as well as the story-based Ryder White content. You also get a weapon blueprint for The Ripper, a nasty combination of a baseball bat and a buzzsaw. Ouch.
It should be noted that the Bloodbath Arena DLC is the proud owner of a 1/10 review from X360A, while the Ryder White add-on didn't do much better. Double ouch.
Dead Island - Game of the Year Edition hits North America on June 26 and Europe on July 6th.
