Head of EA Sports, Andrew Wilson, Talks NBA Live, UFC, Licenses & Exploring Other Sporting Avenues

Dan Webb

In the first part of our interview with EA Sports’ new head honcho, Andrew Wilson, we talked about online passes, server closures, the yearly iteration business model and developer fatigue – all that and more, of course.

In the second part of the our interview with Wilson though, we focus more on the future. Whether Tiger Woods still has any life left in him – the game, not the golfer – how they plan to approach the new NBA Live title this year, the UFC license, licenses in general, other sporting avenues left to explore and the future of EA Sports. Of course, we touch upon much, much more, so like the first one, don’t miss this one. You'd be a fool not to watch it.

If you did miss the first one, it’s not too late to head on over and watch it now. Heck, it’s never too late!

  • EA... Why i love you
  • The UFC license? I missed something. What UFC license?
  • Remember last year when the big addition to Madden was green stickers on the helmet? That was AWESOME! ._______.
  • @#2 - Errrr, the one that THQ has =P
  • I rather like NBA live 2010/2011. Really wish they would keep doing this.
  • NBA Live failed when they went out and signed the head creator guy from 2K Sports and still couldnt make a basketball game as good as 2K, then the franchise got shelved
  • At EA Sports, we will deliver the best gaming experience ever - for 18 months. Then we'll pull the plug on the online servers, and the gamers can go fuck themselves! Thanks a lot, EA - NOT!!!
  • UFC License? I thought that was THQ?
  • I hope they never get to make UFC games they will just ruin it.
  • STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM NBA GAMES, I DO NOT WANT YOU TO HAVE MY MONEY FOR MAKING GREEDY SPORTS GAMES, I haven't purchased an EA sports game new since 09 and i plan on keeping it that way. 2K is making nba right and they don't need you trying to take that away.
  • 2k should take over madden again
  • @7:17 - Thats what she said
  • MAKE A LEGIT HOCKEY GAME FOR ONCE EA! since NHL 09 its been plagued with HORRIBLE GLITCHES in EASHL. it continued into NHL 10, and NHL 11, AND NHL 12! like fucking really? EA its not hard to make a legit game, if you can make it possible for NFL, Fifa, and NBA why is NHL the only game that is severly trash online? and i know NHL 13 will most likely be in the same damn boat. sadly
  • I 'll just love to see NFL 2K13 but we all know that EA is afraid of being dominated by 2K and they know that's why they brought the licenses.
  • I meant to say broughty
  • EA have done a superb job with Boxing and I would love to see them make a UFC game.
  • Man... half way through the video I noticed the wallpaper... and then had trouble not noticing the wallpaper. Also, they look at ways to innovate the controls? How about uninnovating them so the controls are the shitty analog stick controls for hockey. I love the hockey but hate the control scheme. I don't know why they couldn't just leave it with a choice of buttons vs. the sticks.
  • All I want is MVP Baseball. Getting sick of the joke that is 2K's baseball games. 2013 is the first year the exclusive deal between the MLB and 2K end, so lets hope EA can scoop up the license.
  • I apologize for using the f-word in my 7th post. I don't usually curse on-line, but I am still steamed about the Burnout Revenge servers being shutdown. I am registered with EA Games (name, address, phone number, e-mail, etc.)... and I register EACH game, by going to the web site and putting in that number on the back of the game manual. Do they send me ANY type of notice that a game server is being shutdown? NO! I will never buy another EA game that has online play (at least with achievements that can ONLY be gotten online). I don't care if the next burnout game is so great, they call it "Burnout: Orgasm" - I WILL NOT BUY IT! Until they make it so we can play games online after online servers are shutdown for a game, in a player-hosted match... I won't throw my money away by buying their games. They could even have regular rotations of their old games online for 1 to 2 months at a time (and e-mail the registered users AND post a schedule on their web site), just so they aren't committing all of their servers to all the games, all the time... but they don't care about the gamers, they only care about the initial sales... because they want to sell you the same game again, with a slightly different title a year or two after the previous one! It's an endless cycle of wasted money on our part - and we keep supporting it! It's got to stop!!!
  • @ #17 you are a fool if you think the controls for NHL should be like NHL2K10 because that is just a flat out joke. and takes 100% no skill what so ever. 2K Sold they're rights to EA because they knew that they had no chance againts EA considering that EA has WAYYYY more money then Sega devs.
  • @17 umm you do have a choice between analog stick and buttons in NHL we always have, its under control setting in the game just change it to classic controls. My only complaint about NHL now is the online achievements there is to many and there pointless because 9 out of 10 people just boost/cheat to get them as in most games so my question is why f-ing have them.
  • @Comment 19....I don't know man............ Im not a fan of the Burnout series at all but if they made Burnout:ORGASAM...i'd be tempted to buy it.
  • I want a great NBA Live 13!!!
  • I love games more than I hate EA unfortunately. But I doubt that those feelings will last much longer. @19 said it best
