Valve: "We're Not Announcing Anything at E3"

If you were keeping your fingers crossed for something new from Valve at this year's E3, you can uncross them, as studio boss, Gabe Newell has declared that they'll only be showing games that have already been announced. So, you can forget seeing anything about Half Life 3 or anything else Valve-related for that matter.

"We are not announcing anything at E3. Really," reads a reported email exchange between Newell and a ValveTime.net forum member. "We are not announcing Half-Life 3 or Portal 3 or Left 4 Dead 3. We are going to be showing stuff everyone already knows about (CS:Go [Counterstrike: Global Offensive], Dota 2, 10' UI [Steam 'Big Picture Mode'])."

So, while Valve will be in attendance at E3 2012 this June, don't get your hopes up for any new announcements. Unless of course, this is all part of an elaborate ruse to throw everyone off the scent. Maybe Half Life 3 really will be announced! Or more likely, maybe not. As always, stay tuned.

	You know Valve, it wouldn't hurt to announce whatever you're working on, even if it is a couple years out, I'll not lose interest... promise! You could even (gasp) make your fans happy, and considering you totally lied to us about Half-Life 2 Episode 3 (which, according to your promises, should've come out several years ago), don't you owe us that much?

	as you all give me thumbs down for my comment remember this.valve DID NOT create the l4d series nor did they create portel.they simply bought the guys that had already done most of the work and slapped the valve logo on it.yes the got steam dumping trucks of money in their laps.that does not make them great game makers.

	Five years since Episode Two, five years I'm waiting for any news... But still nothing, meanwhile: 2007-2011 Gears of War trilogy completed 2007-2012 Mass Effect trilogy completed 2007-2012 Assassin's Creed trilogy completed and other series.. 1998-???? Half-Life trilogy (completed?) Hope that will worth the wait.

	@20/21 Are you for real? Although L4D was only published by Valve after the buyout, and what looks like a conversion to the Source Engine, Portal is a direct spawn from Half-Life, where HL2 was originally going to contain the portal gun tech. How about you do a little more research before coming off as the world's smartest ass clown?

	The game that the Portal devs made was just the idea, a student game. Portal itself is developed solely by Valve with those guys on the team.

	Big shock. I love Valves (recent) games, but they're such a lazy bunch of fucks around there. Fine by me honestly. They fucked up L4D with all their patching and tweaking. L4D2 became a mess patch after patch. Half Life is overrated to shit. Portal 1 and 2 are awesome, but we don't need Portal 3 right now. Take another year off Valve, and maybe in the next 5, you'll release the L4D2 DLC announced in May (2011) and get around to making Half Life 3 (which I could care less about)

	I've enjoyed all Valve games, and it does look unlikely they'll ever count past 3. Team Fortress 2 Left 4 Dead 2, Half Life 2, Portal 2. Well, maybe they didn't want to copy everyone else by making trilogies, and who can blame them, being different is good. But seriously Valve, them 4 games could have a 3rd. Wwell, after Portal 2 I'm not sure, but the others need them. Or me and 1000's of fans do at least.

	It's Valve. More correctly Valve Time. They rarely announce anything at the big events. They'll hijack some WoW and BF3 servers and start planting portal turrets in dungeons and random buildings, which will sing the main theme song of a new unreleased game or fire in Morse Code, which will be encoded binary translating into ASCII which will translate into random sayings by Alyx Vance about the resistance, other codes will include schematics for new Combine enemy types and vehicles, and will not mention cake but will probably in all likeliness have reference to hats and mutton chops.

	@29. Moron. Valve didnt buy out 'portal' they bought out a bunch of gaming students who for their major designed a game called 'Narbacular Drop'. A puzzle game involving double way mirrors that acted as portals. Valve saw this and like a smart company went "wow this is potential; we would like to hire you all and also bring your concept across and work with us on something much bigger!" - Which is EXACTLY what the students would want as they got a first class ticket to one biggest developers in the gaming industry. These students worked with other pre-existing Valve employees to develop Portal, using the very basic (yet unique) concept that was established in Narbacular Drop. If you're going to call any developer buys out people that 'pitch' and idea thieves then you know very little about how any form of business works.

	Back on topic- I saw this coming but I am no saddened. Valve will only release games "when they are done" and in this day-in-age where post development patches are so simply done I truly respect that. Thats why their games not only are generally amazing produced but often have so little bugs etc; they are all polished to perfection.

	@59 L4D was pretty glitchy, I remember doing things to get achievements like lobby glitching, hitting "A" to host a local server for the more recent of the DLC's and the variety of other things I likely did. I am not so sure it was without bugs.

	They said they would not reveal anything new at E3, but they never said they wouldn't announce anything between now and then. They could very well announce something 3 days before the show, then show it at E3 and not be awful liars. ...Or maybe I'm just being hopeful. Announce L4D3 dammit! 	Valve is full of shit. This is a marketing scheme without the added bs. they want people to be thinking of "Valve" when E3 Arrives. therefore their is anticipation even though they say "oh we're not announcing anything special" i say bullllllllshiiit my friend. 	The LFD2 dlc was released on the pc i think there was a issue with ms but i could be wrong. my friend once said valve never ever releases a 3rd.

I deal with debates, beefs, and drama over the mic and face to face, not some cocksucking message board. 	There probably to busy trying to make a console for steam for some reason that will bomb. Why would i buy a console just for steam when it will be 100x better on PC and I can upgrade a PC

	What frosts my nuts is that when HL came out they threw the expansions at you left and right. I loved playing HL, Blue shift, and Opposing forces on PC. The entire "same story/timeline from 3 different perscpectives" was f'n awesome!!! The the sequels pop in... waaay too late. I lamost had to replay HL to remember what the jist was. The time game ( as far as game time) was too much. There was alot missed and left up to the players to interpit. Now the episode X's comeout again years after they should of. The next installment is past due and for those who see the next game as " huh.. this seems new... WHOA, there are previous games too???", we're losing interest. Halo, Gears, COD, and other franchise games are turnign out sequels left and right. Almost on a 2-3 year turnaround. Valve is losing some fans over this. I loved the original HL and the follow ups fell kinda flat due to the time they took to release. I don't remeber much of the last HL except bitching at throwing barrels at the mech spiders at the end, but that doesn't rule out I'll run thru it again to get a refresher onthe story.... UNLESS the next HL isn't coming until my grandkids can buy it new!!!!!

I love Valve's games, but Gabe Newell just needs to keep his fat fucking mouth shut until they're actually ready to announce anything. Giving false hopes to rabid fans and then constantly shattering them can't possibly be helping their image any.

	Valve is a good troll. First, they make really good games and then they make even better sequels and then, nothing else. We all expect a third game installment, but I guess Valve will never do that. "insert sad face"
