Resident Evil Creator Returning to Survival Horror With 'Zwei'

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has taken a long hiatus away from the survival horror genre, having been Director on the series' reinvention with Resident Evil 4. Since then, Mikami has worked on God Hand, Vanquish and Shadows of the Damned, but now he's set to return to survival horror.

Famitsu [via Andriasang] reports that Mikami is working on his first project with Tango Gameworks - the studio he founded that was picked up by Zenimax in 2010 - and it's apparently codenamed 'Zwei'. As you'll know, Zwei is the German word for two, but Mikami says that the codename has no connection with the game's content.

Shinji Mikami is taking up duties as Executive Director on Zwei, which he reckons will be coming to HD consoles, although platforms have yet to be confirmed. There are no further details or a release window for the game yet either, but that's because it's early days for Zwei. Stay tuned.

hope its like the old resident evils where there were puzzles included in the game. I liked 4 and 5 but 1,2,3 and code veronica x where defiantly better games in my opinion

@#4 - Dead Space and DS2 are probably the closest things to survival horror that have come out since the old days.

The genre essentially died, and people just tack the name onto anything involving monsters and think it's the same thing.

Please let it be like originals, like 4,5. Survival has been missing since resident evil 3. Nemesis was not scary in operation raccoon city, 4,5 replaced the zombie with some stupid plant eating crap.

@5 Vier would actually be a pretty good name for this game, as the word "vier" is pronounced like the English word "fear". Acht would be a good name for a game, too, or null.

I wish Shinji Makami stayed at Capcom directing the Resident Evil franchise. I'm guessing he left because he was upset when RE4 was imported to PS2 when he wanted the game to remain exclusive to the gamecube. RE5 was a disappointment and I'm not too exicted for the upcoming RE6. Franchise is not the same without him.

@20 I agree with his opinion on the state of the direction of the franchise, which like #23 noted, he explicitly stated was only his own opinion beforehand. Which kinda makes your point moot. As for RE6, I'll probably still buys it. RE5 while fun, wasn't scary. Heres hoping ZWEI doesnt dissapoint on that front.
