New Trailer Takes a First Look at Hybrid - 5th Cell's XBLA Shooter

5th Cell, the developer behind quirky DS title Scribblenauts, is turning its hand to the third-person shooter, exclusively on the Xbox Live Arcade with Hybrid. "Innovation" is the watchword for Hybrid according to Jeremiah Slaczka, Creative Director & CEO at 5th Cell, who takes you through the core mechanics of the game in this new gameplay trailer.

Hybrid's main draw is its seamless movement, jetpacking from place to place while only ever touching the ground to get behind cover. This means that you can fight on the walls or ceiling without any impediment whatsoever. There's also a killstreak system where one kill gives you the Stalker drone to fight alongside you, while three and five kills grants you the Warbringer drone and the Preyon heatseeking missile respectively.

Running on a heavily modified version of Valve's Source engine, Hybrid certainly looks interesting. And there's a lot more info about the game in the video that you can check out below. Hybrid will be coming to XBLA in summer 2012. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.

	This looks very interesting. The cover system overall seems limited, reminds me of some mobile games. The world war idea is interesting. I'll have to keep an eye on this one.

	This would have been cool about 12 years ago, instead of Quake 3 Arena. (yes, it's been that long...)

	I'm not one to play arcade games but this has caught my eye, looks pretty sick infact, major consideration!

	I guarantee you that the cover system would not even be used by the player base. In fact, like just about every possible online shooter, it will come down to every player using the same gun that is the most OP one. Honestly, I just don't trust online games anymore, and would rather just stick to single-player and Co-op. But hey, that's just my opinion.

	Definitely looks innovative. I just hope they aren't messing with things JUST so they can be different. I'd rather have normal movement, than a broken system that only sounds good on paper. I really hope this game is good, because I do like a lot of what is being shown. Also, that guy said actually way too many times.

	Looks like a blast.. kinda liking XBLA shooters after i got Nexuiz ill give it a shot and see if its as good as it looks

	@4: Yes it looks like to FPS had offspring. Ya done goofed son. I keep describing it as Gears/Mass Effect 3 with jetpacks, that seems to get people's attention There is a closed beta coming up (Date TBA) that isn't mentioned in the above article for some reason >_> http://www.whatishybrid.com/ All they asked for was the email address that your gamertag is related to. I signed up a month ago and haven't received any spam. @13 If the Beta wows, then I'll consider going for the rare 1600 purchase Not digging on this killstreaks idea, anything that makes the best player in the match even better seems silly. Curious how they flew to cover that was behind them, I assumed the cover would have to be in your crosshairs to fly to it.

	It's a necessity to price it to 800MSP if they don't want to leave the series there. It's innovative but I think that the flying speed was too high. Maybe it could have a "sprint" function where you could go faster for a few seconds until overheating. The "Tied The Lead" messages are unnecessary in text, especially when they're that large in the middle of the screen. I'm looking forward.

	Looks interesting and new. Reminds me of vanquish slightly but it is amazing how the graphics and gameplay have moved on over a short space of time for arcade games.

	This looks like the next Monday Night Combat. A great XBLA title that provides all the fun of the big name AAA shooters for a fraction of the price with interesting gameplay twists. Count me in.

	It does sound more like something I would play on Ipad in all the honesty. Not a big fun of the whole point at spot and don't worry abour travel thing, but maybe trial will convince me it actually works and is worth buying..
