Codies Rolls Out Codemasters Racing Label

Codemasters has announced the formation of a brand new label called Codemasters Racing.

Providing a "razor focus" on the racing sector, the label launches with the release of DiRT: Showdown on May 25th. It will then become the publishing label for the F1, GRID and DiRT series going forward.

To accompany the news, Codemasters has also announced a new online hub. Called Racenet, it’s a free community service that provides users with a Driver Profile that will work across all future Codemasters racing titles.

Using the profile, players will be able to track their performance against rivals, as well as take part in in-game community events and even win extra content. Which sounds pretty damn good to us.

Racenet will launch alongside Dirt Showdown’s demo on Tuesday May 1st.

'Racenet' aka 'we're now using our own servers, now hand over the $10/£10'.

Seems quite cool, don't understand why they need a separates label though

@6 EA Sports Football Club / Golf Clubhouse / Ping Pong Closet are all 'free', doesn't mean they don't come with project $10 alongside them.

If you asked me what Codemasters make, I would say DiRT, F1 and Grid. Do they make anything else? Seems strange to have a subdivision where all your games are made in that one subdivision.

Makes sense for EA, 2K because they make other stuff and are large companies with many small companies. For example;

EA - EA Sports - Fifa/Tiger Woods/Madden etc.

or

EA - Bioware - Mass Effect/Dragon Age etc.

I remember when Codemasters made non racing games. Like the Dizzy series! LMA Manager as well. 2 series which seem to have died and a crying shame.

Codemasters has a very nice racing engine (no pun intended), i would love to see them license it out to other developers. Or maybe they are still paying for Sega Racing Stuido? LOL......In my opinion the balance between realistic and fun is well carried. I wish they would keep DiRT true to its roots though, quit getting carried away and just improve the game, not make it into a different one.

Dirt 1 and 2 are two of my favorite racing games ever, but dirt 3 sucked in my opinion.

In my opinion Codemasters should stick with racing games. The other games they release in exception of overlord have been average and not really groundbreaking. Dirt, F1 and Racedriver series should be the only games they should create.

p.s. GRID 2 announcement would be nice at some point. ;)

I love those social services. Social Club, Battlelog, and now Racenet.

I hope Turn 10 make something like this when the next Forza comes out.

Well seeing how all other games they make are pretty shit, I would say they need to razer focus on other genres, because racing they already have nailed down..
