New Controversial Saints Row 2 Video Written Thursday, June 05, 2008 by Dan Webb While surfing the web at this ungodly hour (UK time), over on IGN I stumbled upon the new trailer for the upcoming Saints Row title, due to hit October the 14th after its recent delay. The same day after I posted the news about the delay, I noticed one of the development team on the official forums mention something about a controversial trailer due for the title next week. Well, as usual, you laugh off their perception of controversial as a stunt to gain some publicity for the trailer. But let me tell you... BOY!!! Were they right!!! In the latest trailer, the Volition crew poked fun at GTA IV's lack of fun features. For the most part, although slightly shocked and taken back... They really do have a point. Could Saints Row 2 really be the fun, sand box that we could all come to love after GTA has gone all serious and realistic? This little bird says... Maybe.

The thing with Saints Row is that it was originally directed toward certain groups of people and was designed to hold people over on the 360 until a GTA game could be produced. It was after all a direct rip-off of GTA 3 aside from the character design and perhaps buildings. I might rent this game so I can do a tad bit of hood surfing and streaking, the thing is that there is a point at which you should grow beyond thinking that kind of thing is fun. I can't contact them in a week and then i get bombed with calls about going to do something. I mean, i've stopped playing GTA IV because of that now. And... to tell the truth, i played through GTA III and San Andreas atlest 5 times EACH.... And i had fun. I can't even finish the story in GTA IV because i, most of the time, cant do what i want to do! And that is opposite of the genre is supposed to be. |

But in for how many cars have you acualy stolen to drive vs. how many taxis you caught to get to the location because driving is boring and feels like a chore. |

All the trailer is trying to accomplish is to get some attention and the more and more the fanboys argue the more attention games get. Still, some people love Pepsi (yuck), but hate Coke (yum). Similarly some people like ketchup (yuck) but detest mustard(yum). And then there's that rare class of people who find that they can stomach both Jack Daniels (yum) and Jim Beam (yum). I think it's right that there are a variety of similarly themed games available to the mass market, first of all everyone benefits from the competition by the creation of a higher quality product; second, it's a bit like having a different supermodel each night of the week share your jacuzzi - life is good. |
