Wow. I thought this sounded cool when I thought it was free. Admittedly, "Rent a server" is kinda obviously going to involve, ya know, rent! Seems awfully steep. I suppose its better than having every single BF3 player start their own server, but bloody hell. |

This will appease the serious Battlefield fans, but £48 for three months? Sod that. Might be a good idea for those amongst you who wish to boost the online cheevos though. | A great way to keep those cheaters, and mods out of your game experience. Also, a good way to keep your friends tight However, how long before you think this idea will be abused. Soon there will be groups hosting their own servers which will be horrible experiences. Yep, seems like DICE might be in trouble here. |

| It's very good, if not a bit pricey. My friend has bought a week server ad another friend another week after that and it's great! He made me an admin so if I'm the only one online I could make it so only Operation metro on conquest is played, or only damavand peak on Rush is played, or anythingI like! Plus, it's a public server so everything counts as exp and if someone is spawn trapping the jets I can kick them as admin! :P If people don't like it or get annoyed at being kicked you can easily search for a normal dice server and play BF3 Classic, or Most Popular, or find a friendly server with settings you like, there's something for everyone now and that is a good thing. |

As DICE already made the servers i would like to play in. normal ones. Went into a server where the admin guy was on the other (loosing) team. so one by one he kicked my team out. was not fun to watch all those players, one-by-one, dissapear then my message came up saying i'd been kicked. thanks. i'll be avoiding this crap untill i stop playing. |

So... 1) Rent-a-server is released and turns out to be pretty expensive 2) Buyable unlocks for all weapons and vehicles is released for a rather costly 3200 MSP (or in individual bundles) 3 EA/DICE considering an 'Elite style' subscription service for BF3 Way to become the new Activision. |

@35 servers are not cheap to run so of course they was not gonna be cheap to rent. And people play the game to unlock all the weapons and it must take a while to unlock them so why would the make it cheap to unlock them all straight away and these are not mandatory things that you need to play the game so you do not need to buy them. And yes last time i checked Activision and Dice are a business so they need to make money a lot of hours when in to making the game so all the money they earn pays there salary |

What a bunch of unimaginative morons some of you are... The rent-a-server scheme is brilliant. Finally you have the ability to alter every aspect you want for the game, get to kick people who break rules, set up private matches (making it much easier for clans) and get your server through the game, without any 3rd party BS to deal with. Also, quit moaning about the price and again, use your brain. A clan made up of 5 or so players can split the cost of the server, making it relatively cheap. |

| Um, the PC side of things has been doing this for years. Its a way for a group of like-minded individuals (clans mostly) to control certain aspects of the game. And heck, if they want to spend the money to play their way, by all means, allow them the pleasure. Doesn't mean YOU have to play on their server. The oddball childish behavior will be weeded out in a week or two so don't fret. It also allows GOOD connections to play in your game instead of random bad connections to interfere with a good game. |

| Renting a dedicated server and private matches are different. A server uses electricity therefore costs money to run and is not hosted on your console so you can leave and it will still be running. A private match is hosted on your console not a server. Could you tweak the settings in halo or cod in a ranked game and kick and ban players if they are pissing you off? |

It's to be expected, EA/Dice trying to charge for it is just showing what money-grabbers they are. Offer Rent-a-server for people who want to play custom RANKED matches, but add private UNRANKED matches for free, for everyone, so people can mess about with mates, practice in clans, improve their flying skills etc. |

Whilst I am fully aware this point has already been made by other posts I feel many of you are failing to understand that these custom servers mean are an effective way for dice/EA to allow customer play lists and rule sets within the battlefield community. Comparing this feature to being able to host private games is ridiculously unfair as due to the fact all battlefield 3 games must be hosted on servers (which IMO is far better than the system for certain other multi player games where lag and other factors become a issue) that in order to host a private game would require a set amount of space on a server dedicated to running based on your requirements which naturally incurs costs which should be covered by the user not the company which has already provided all the features initially expected in its product. Whilst im aware that this does not change that many will consider this a costly service I think many of you should consider that as this kind of service develops the cost may drop in future titles if it proves to be popular or as the service is changed. Finally in response the arguments that PC players have had this feature for a considerable amount of time, I fail to understand your point clearly this is a feature which as far as im aware is new to any console and does the fact its on PC affect its value in any way? As users still have to pay for this service on pc and I for one would be eager to see the introduction of more common PC features into console games especially if a mod system was introduced. |

A lot of people are confusing "hosting a game" with "renting a server". The server is persistent. It remains in effect for the entire day/week/month or whatever time its rented for. If you have 10 friends who can play now and 10 others who can't make it, they'll be able to play later, whether you're there or not. Its more or less a group effort that supports the server rental. Not at all like hosting a game, so chill! EA has been doing this for years starting with BF 1942 and its got very strong support. |

Now, I understand that the price might throw a lot of people off, but understand that you are renting an actual server. In most other games that offer 'private games' or 'custom games', you aren't renting your own server. If you host one of those, it will be run off of your own internet connection. These games are run off of a peer to peer network. Battlefield 3 isn't set up like that, from what I could tell, it uses 'dedicated' servers for matchmaking. With these Battlefield 3 Rented Servers, you are getting your own 'dedicated' server. The games won't be run off of your own connection, they will be run off of a remote server in some other location. This is why it costs money. You will be creating a bandwidth burden for whatever hosting company EA/DICE is co-operating with. It actually doesn't seem like the prices are *too* outrageous, which is surprising whenever EA is involved. Perhaps I didn't do enough digging, but set up a mock BF3 server here and compare the prices. http://www.nfoservers.com/order.php It doesn't seem that bad to me. I really don't understand the outrage, if people actually understand what they are talking about. Maybe people are just jumping on the "FUCK EA" bandwagon. |

| @89 - Nice, shameless plug for your own website dude. However, you have show the world how uninformed and clueless you are when it comes to Battlefield in general and their servers in particular. Might want to take a moment and purchase the Battlefield collection for PC (1942, BF2-MC, BF:Vietnam) and go check out THOSE servers. You will find most are run by guys who want to play a respectable game and kick out the children. On Xbox, because it is so new, you have a lot of children who are initially playing, but, once people find out what kind of server they are running, nobody will play there anymore. You just need to put in a little effort to find the game you want. Who does quickmatch these days anymore, anyway? |
