Microsoft Gives Us A Rundown of 10 of Their Biggest Windows Phone 7 Titles for 2012

Nestled away in one of the back rooms of Microsoft’s Spring Showcase was the publisher’s latest array of Windows Phone 7 titles that are meant to encapsulate the masses in 2012.

In a similar vein to our recent Xbox Live Arcade developer round-up that we ran a few weeks back, we caught up with Microsoft’s WP7 Marketing Manager to get a tour of the 10 titles that the publisher are hoping demonstrates that the WP7 platform is the destination for gamers in 2012.

The ten titles range from much larger core experiences like Carcassonne, Sid Meier’s Pirates!, Civ Rev and PES 2012 and extends to the much more casual experiences like Wordament, Gerbil Physics and Pinball FX 2. The more intensive experiences like Shoot 1UP, geoDefense Swarm and DoDonPachi Maximum just add to the previous 7 to show the platform’s wide diversity.

The ten titles – some of which are out now – were showcased to show the depth of Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7 in 2012. The question remains though, do any of these take your fancy? Would the selection tempt you over to the Windows Phone 7 platform? Or is Microsoft lagging behind the competition?

  • Really only want Pinball FX 2 I might get geoDefense Swarm when its deal of the week.
  • the phrase "im not impressed" comes to mind.
  • I've got DoDonPachi and am really looking forward to Shoot 1 UP! :)
  • When I saw the microsoft update I was hoping for something cool like a Rare game announcement, this is disappointing.
  • Pirates and FX 2 look pretty cool. But are there going to be achievements for these games???
  • @#5 - Yes, all Xbox Live title on the Windows Phone 7 have achievements.
  • Dodonpachi is epic. That alone is it in my eyes. But the other games in sure will demonstrate how awesome WP7 can be :D. Colour me excited for these.
  • That is worth it in my eyes, rather.
  • I watched all 10:30 minutes and I am intrigued.
  • I've got Dodonpachi Maximum, very good as always from CAVE. Couple of others there that i'm interested in too now after seeing the video, thanks guys for some WP7 updates! :)
  • Games for mobile phones always remind me why we need true handhelds like the Vita/3DS, Buttons & a control pad are so much better than shitty touch screens. Not really much here to smile about i'm afraid & i've had a windows phone practically from day 1.
  • going to get civilization has easy points
  • Cool man, I hope these games all have 400GS.
  • @13 Windows Phone games are still 200G, only XBLA has changed.
  • Gerbil physics is fun. Looking forward to geodefense swarm and maybe the 3 strategy titles if the achievements aren't too long
  • Carcassone I can't wait for, along with pinball and others
  • They really need to sort out some multiplayer and turn based games, this is all I can see that's making them lag behind the competition, you even have the option for turn based games in the games live tile but still we wait.. And wait.. And wait..
  • are these games subject to the 400 points increase like XBLA titles???
  • Shoot 1 Up is a great game, although very short! I'd recommend it if it's a fairly cheap game. Carcassone is great on XBLA too, but this version looked strange - can you not zoom out to see your overall map or what?
  • Hang on, pocket Civ (even if console civ) and pocket Pirates? Hell yes I'm interested! Now that I think of it, pocket pirates sounds like some euphamism for masturbation
  • windows phone, no thankyou. their windows 7 on pc is as crap as all their others, so i'll stick to my apple products thankyou. dont you just wish apple went into gaming, you know they would wipe the floor with xbox and ps :)
  • That's the best we get? I don't know... PES 2012 was an abomination. At least I have high hopes for carcassonne and swarm 2.
  • Wp is awesome. I haven't found one person who has used one and not been impressed with something, .. Quite simply though if they don't sort out their apps WP will get left behind and I can see it just fading out
  • Can't wait for Pinball FX and Carcassone. :)
  • Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Civ Rev for me, I wasnt too wow-ed by the rest :s
  • Carcasonne and Civ. Rest is meh..
  • Wait, Pirates on WP7? Looks like I need to go get a new phone...
  • But I have an Iphone
  • Really impressed, some great looking games coming. Carcassone, Civ Rev, Pirates...those in particular look great for me, can't wait.
  • "PES comes will all the teams and players" Oh really, I've never heard of London FC. To be fair, he is trying to sell a crap game and clearly he knows nothing about football/soccer! Anyways, GeoDefense was a good game, so will pick the sequel. Also getting Civ Rev this week. Carcassone & Pirates look good too. I got bored of that guys voice after that, couldn't watch any more.
  • I wonder how many of these will actually get released... I remember a video from 2010 about wp7 games... We're still waiting on 3 of them.
  • Windows phone 7 is an absolutely fantastic mobile os. Ive used Android and ios also, and Windows Phone beats them both Hands down. At the same time. Its a shame most people dismiss it so hastily. Ignorance at its finest.
  • I seen an article about a bunch of other WP games coming out to Nokia first(which is Bullshit). id like to see some more info on some of the lesser know games coming out?
  • @34 Future EA games are exclusive to Nokia but like ilomilo and AT&T, I imagine it is only a timed exclusive.
